Spanish language teaching

Our Spanish teachers have a degree in Spanish Phi-lology. Social & cultural activities

EVA is the managing director. She is in charge of ma-king the school run perfectly. She has a Master Degree in Fine Arts and that is why our school is so beautiful and artistic.

WHOISWHO

FERNANDO is another of the school’s directors. He has a degree in English and Italian Philology, deals with the schools international relations and plans the schools weekly activities. He’s also known as the Great Chef Nando.

MAXI is the school’s third Director. He has a degree in Hispanic Philology and is in charge of supervising our study programs. He also manages Taronja’s online uni-verse.

MARTA is our secretary. She has a Degree in Commu-nication and administrative work experience in an Em-bassy. She speaks English and Danish and is the person who will be in contact with you from the first moment. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to an-swer your questions and solve your problems!

JENNY is the school Head Teacher and has a Master’s degree in Advanced Hispanic Studies, specialized in Spanish as a Foreign Language. She’s an expert in tea-ching in Virtual Words and Videoweb communication. She also coordinates our great teachers team! As well as she’s responsible for the successful organization of the lessons, timetables, groups and levels.

LEVELS

The student is able to understand and put into practice common and frequently used everyday expressions, such as general phrases aimed at the instant satisfaction of the basic needs. He/she can introduce him/herself and others, request and provide basic personal information about place of residence, personal belongings and the people he/she knows. He/she can interact in a simple way provided that the other speaker talks slowly and clearly and is willing to collaborate.

The student is able to fully understand senten-ces and frequently used expressions related to the areas of his/her experiences of particular immediate relevance (basic personal and family information, shopping, places of interest, occu-pations, etc.). He/she can communicate to fulfill simple and common tasks, which require a casual and direct exchange of information related to the habitual and familiar issues. He/she can describe in simple terms the aspects of background and environment, as well as basic needs of immediate context.

The student is capable of understanding the main points of basic texts in standard form, provided they present matters student is familiar with, ei-ther from experiences at work, school or leisure. He/she knows how to cope with most situations, which are likely to arise during travelling around the area where the language is spoken. The stu-dent is able to produce simple and coherent text on topics he/she is familiar with or personally interested in. He/she can describe experiences, events, wishes and ambitions, as well as briefly justify personal views and explain his/her plans and expectations.

The student understands the main ideas of com-plex texts on both actual as well as abstract to-pics, including technical ones, as long as those are found within his/her field of specialization. He/she can interact with native speakers with a suffi-cient degree of fluency and spontaneity, so that regular communication is possible, proceeding without strains on the parts of both speakers. The student can compose clear and detailed texts on a wide range of subjects, as well as put forward his/her point of view on general issues explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

The student can understand a wide range of ex-tensive texts which require certain language skills, such as ability to recognize their implicit meanings. He/she expresses him/herself fluently and spon-taneously, without obvious signs of difficulties in search for adequate expressions. He/she shows flexible and effective use of language for social, academic and professional purposes. He/she can produce clear, well-structured and detailed texts on complex subjects, showing correct usage of syntactic patterns, connectors and cohesive tex-tual devices.

C1

The student can understand virtually everything heard or read; knows how to reconstruct the in-formation and arguments from both spoken and written sources and can present those in a co-herent and summarized way. He/she is able to express him/herself spontaneously, with great fluency and accuracy, distinguishing the peculiar shades of meaning even in more complex situa-tions.

Six levels description: Our courses follow the guidelines of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”. The six levels are:

COURSES

TARONJA offers a wide variety of courses. All the programs are designed carefully, and pass intensive quality con-trols. Our teachers approach to preparing lessons is based on the students needs, goals and interests, as well as on their own learning abilities.We keep the number of students per class low (minimum 4, maximum 10), so that the teachers can meet the needs of each and every one of them, individually.The class materials (texts, articles, videos, songs) are always tailored to the level of the Spanish class. Once a stu-dent finishes the course, they will receive a certificate with the number of hours attended and the level reached in the Spanish language. To obtain this certificate, the student must attend 80% of classes.

At TARONJA, we combine oral communication with theo-retical teaching and learning methods, where grammar exercises are implemented to benefit the level of com-munication. Our classes implement the use of the skills necessary for learning a new language. As well as oral expression and interaction, we employ writing, reading and listening exercises to encourage a better scope of the language. TARONJA makes use of a wide range of educational resources, including some of our own ma-terials to allow us to assess the level of each group, ac-curately. We also make use of real written and oral samples and encourage students to utilise in-house resources such as Spanish radio podcasts, flyers, leaflets, etc. It is also worth taking into account that, at TARONJA, one of our main objectives is to encourage all students to make use of the ICT facilities in the classrooms, whilst teaching and learning Spanish, such as online sourcing, blogging and social networking. In addition, our teachers make use of the “Spanish Vir-tual Classroom” (AVE), created by the Instituto Cervan-tes, to promote this purpose. There are also in-lesson plans and after school activities in which the students are encouraged, to support the course they are taking at the school and to create a happy and friendly environ-ment at TARONJA. 

Our Spanish teachers are graduates in Spanish Philo-logy and have experience and training in teaching Spa-nish as a foreign language. As well as this, they are also energetic and full of life, working within a very close -knit team. They are always at hand to address any concerns or needs you may have.Our teaching team undergo strict quality control tests and class inspections. An important aspect of their preparation lies in their knowledge and use of the new classroom technologies and teaching programs through videoconferencing and virtual environments. Once the Spanish course has finished, students are able to continue studying with us through our on-line pro-grams

General courses

The course is designed for students wanting to learn Spanish and to combine language study with other activities that allow you to see the city surroundings and its famous beaches. The 4 skills will be worked on within a comunicative environment. We guarantee a fast and effective learning of the Spansih language. The course consists of 20 lessons of Spanish + 5 di-dactic social activities per week.

Intensive course

The course is designed for students wanting to push their Spanish learning to the limits while they stay in Valencia. The course consists of 4 daily lessons of intensive course and 2 daily lessons focused on conversation and pronunciation. If you choose this option, you will devote your time to pronunciation, diction, diastratic and diaphasic varieties of Spanish, etc. This lessons will definitely improve your fluency in Spanish. Minimun required A2 level.The course consists of 20 lessons of intensive cour-se + 10 weekly lessons focused on conversation and pronunciation + 5 didactic social activities per week. .

Superintensive course

Our intensive DELE course is focused on the prepa-ration of the DELE exam. DELE is a prerequisite for working in the major Spanish companies (Inditex, Telefónica, Santander, Repsol, among others) and to study in the majority of the universities in our country.DELE has three examination sessions per year: in May, August and November; and here, in TARONJA school, we will carefully prepare you for this exam in order to obtain this official title. You must have, at least, the same Spanish language level to the exam level you want to apply for.The course consists of 20 lessons focus on DELE + 5 didactic social activities per week.

DELE COURSE

This course is aimed at graduate Spanish teachers or people interested in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. The focus of the course is very practical, centered on critical analysis and discussion. The key points of the teaching-learning process in the Spanish as a Foreing Language environment will be stressed in order to understand how to manage a motivated and appropriate class.The course is 6 lessons a day during two weeks.

This combination of lessons consists of an intensive Spanish class (with a group), as well as a one-on-one class every day. The daily individual class is tailor-made; our teaching team adapt to the personal ne-eds of each student, strengthening their knowledge, helping to resolve doubts they may have, practicing knowledge they have already acquired in the inten-sive course, or perfecting any specific aspect of the Spanish language.The course consists of 20 intensive lessons + 5 indi-vidual lessons + 5 didactic social activities per week.

The lessons are ideal for those looking to deepen their knowledge, to practice any specific aspect of the Spanish language, or to use Spanish in speci-fic situations, such as business, tourism, hospitality, education, fashion, etc. Our teaching teams adapt to the needs and professional or educational objectives of each student.The course comprises of the bundle of individual les-sons that you choose. 10, 15 or 20 per week + didac-tic social activities a week.

The internship program is designed for students with an advanced knowledge of Spanish, at a minimum level of B2. The program consists of two parts: 1) Three weeks of Instensive Spanish classes, 2) Interning for a mini-mum of four weeks in a Spanish business (non-paid).

IIf you are a gym enthusiast, don’t let your body get out of shape during your stay. The gym is 10 minutes from the school and is open from 7.30 to 22.00. You will have free access to all the rooms and classes, all day long.

Low season: Only morning pass.High season: We will offer rotating schedules, for exam-ple: Some of the groups will have Monday-Wednesday-Friday morning pass and Tuesday and Thursday after-noon pass. It will rotate each week, so everyone will be able to enjoy 2 “free mornings” and 3 “free afternoons”, or vice versa, every week.

General conditions Timetable

This course is perfect for those students who want to take advan-tage of the fact that they will be by the Mediterranean Sea and would like to learn (or to improve) sailing on the sea. The boats, in which the courses will be given, have an initiation of a DAM 5.5 degrees (this is also adapted for disabled people). The reason why the courses will be given in these boats is because it´s the ideal way to achieve the main objective, namely sailing. The boats are easy to maneuver between the ships and it´s also a very nice and fun expe-rience. The instructors are highly experienced professionals whose sole motive is to carry forward the sailing at an effective, but more important, fun way. It will be an unforgettable experience!

It´s well known that in Spain tennis is an important and popular sport; we are proud of great elite Spanish tennis players in Interna-tional championships. Tennis instructors in Spain are well-recog-nized and acknowledged. That is why Taronja Spanish School in Valencia offers you an opportunity to practise with them after at-tending your Spanish course.

Tennis

Riding courses will take place in the equestrian club of Valencia, run by true professionals of the horse business. The equestrian centre guarantees both modern facilities in Valencia city centre and good horses.

Beginners will receive theoretical and practical classes in small groups with a teacher. Students with some riding experience will be able to enjoy group classes during which they will be instructed in dressage technique.

To be able to participate you should be affiliated in your country or to federate once you come to Valencia. Ask for more information.

Each week we offer a series of optional didactic activities. They are designed for you to practice your Spanish out-side the classroom, and for you to get to know your classmates and teachers.

TARONJA is not only concerned with teaching Spanish. We like to have fun too, and we give great importance to the social and cultural integration of the students. For this reason, we are constantly preparing social extra-curricular activities and cultural programs, alongside the Spanish lessons. This gives our students the chance to adapt them-selves to the city life and Spanish customs.This system allows us to provide education specifically for the needs of our students, who not only come to Spain to learn a new language, but to be immersed into a different culture.

Didactic & social activities included

Every Tuesday night we celebrate our “WELCOME PAELLA PARTY”! All students and teachers in the school are invited to come and enjoy a real Valencian Paella.It’s a great way to get to know your new classmates and teachers in a relaxed atmosphere with Spanish cooking. Everybody is invited!

Have fun and discover the most important, symbolic buildings of Valencia’s city centre, and be entertained at the same time as you continue to learn Spanish along our marvellous routes.

Walk & learn

Once a week you can come to our free language ex-change. This will be a great aid to your Spanish lear-ning and an ideal activity to meet Spanish people. In these exchanges our students can meet Spanish people and practice what they have learnt in class. The event is free, and has already become the best-known linguistic exchange in Valencia. During Univer-sity holidays we do a Tapas Tour instead.

Weekly activities at extra cost

Every weekend, we organize different activities, for example, trips to historical or touristics towns near Va-lencia, like Xàtiva, Sagunto, Peñíscola. We also organi-ce trips to the La Albufera, Cullera Valencian beaches. We love to attend popular festivals, music concerts, clubs and fairs. Valencia is a county where there is a lot to do so we try not to miss anything!

Weekends

All the students are welcome to attend our free Spa-nish Cooking Classes every Wednesday. We’d also like to point out that we are the only spanish school in Valencia that offers a COOKING LESSON once a week with our funny “Chef Nando”!

Every Thursday we give a class about different as-pects of Spanish and Hispanic culture. Be it the about most important cultural figures, the most symbolic locations, most important cities, most fa-mous traditions and fiestas, cinema, art, or music that characterises us….”

Culture classes

As well as the five previously-mentioned didactic an cultural activities included, TARONJA school offers others extra activities during the week. These could be in the form of: Flamenco, tapas routes, parties, din-ners, cultural expositions or even theatre showings.

We try to make sure that our students have something to do each day. Thanks to this, Taronja students will have many possibilities to get to know each other, and also the city of Valencia better, whilst practicing Spanish.

These activities are optional and require extra pay-ment, but are always at a reasonable price.

TARONJA students are insured by the school, inside the school through a third party and outside the school in the activities organized by the school (trips, extra activities outside the school…).Our students ARE NOT insured by TARONJA school against illness, accident, theft, loss of personal posse-sions, or any other inconvenience. TARONJA will not ac-cept any responsibility for such occurrences.Students can contract a health insurance through TA-RONJA Spanish School from 15 days to one year valid from the day of their arrival in Spain.

ACCOMMODATION

Shared apartments

They are all quite near to Valencia city centre, well pre-served and fully equipped: kitchen, fridge, washing ma-chine, TV and bathroom for sharing. New students arriving from Sunday at 12.00. Apartments must be vacated by Saturday at 12:00.Linen included. Apartments will be cleaned and linen will be changed once a week. Individual and shared rooms (only available for two people coming together).

Host families

Living with a Spanish family is a great and unique ex-perience! You will have an incredible time and will most certainly feel at home. Of course, you will have to adapt to Spanish family life and habits. You will be given a personal key, so that you feel totally free, and you will also be able to receive phone calls at home. We work with many different families, each one special on its own right. Sometimes, they are traditional families with chil-dren; others consist of an adult woman who lives alo-ne, or an older couple without children. In any case, you will find that all the families we have chosen are good-natured and accommodating!New students to arrive from Sunday at 12.00.Families must be vacated by Saturday at 12:00.Towels and bed linen included. The residence is placed in a university area, about 30 mi-nutes away by bus from the school and the city center. *Each room has a bathroom, airconditioning, and Inter-net.*The residence has also some shared areas, such as: Study room with computers, Internet connection, dining room, living room with TV, DVD. *There is no closing time.Towels and bed linen included. With approximately one million inhabitants it has beco-me, in recent years, one of the main emerging capitals of Europe. Valencia is a medium-sized city; this means that Valencia offers as much as a big city does but, at the same time, it is comfortable to move around.

The old city center In the middle ages it was one of the biggest city centers in Europe. You can find a large number of incredible old buildings, cultural events and a great nightlife, plenty of pubs and restaurants.

City of Science and Arts This futuristic “city within a city” must surely rank as one of the world’s most exciting and imaginative millennium projects. Here you will find the Oceanográfico (biggest sea water aquarium in Europe), the Science Museum, the Hemisferico planetarium, El Palacio de las Artes (Opera House)...

Scheduled or low cost airlines to Valencia, are available from most European airports. You can also make stops in Madrid and Barcelona as Valencia airport has direct connections to these cities, almost every hour. You can also arrive at Alicante airport and take the bus or train to Valencia. From Valencia airport you can take the metro line 3 or 5 and get off at “Xàtiva” which is right next to our school. Only takes 20 minutes and it’s very cheap.

Valencia enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate. The average annual temperature is 17ºC with warm sum-mers and very mild winters, rarely below 10ºC. There is only light rainfall mainly in autumn and the beginning of spring. You can enjoy mild summer weather seven mon-ths a year.

The Malvarrosa and Las Arenas beaches are two very high quality beaches that you can find in Valencia city. In summer you can play, dive and swim, and in winter, it’s wonderful to walk along its long promenade. These ur-ban beaches are excellent, wide and open, with fine and golden sand. The quality and quantity of services offe-red is really good, and you can find a lot of restaurants and cafés around, most of them specialised in Paella. It has an area for people with reduced mobility. The length of the two beaches is nearly 2 km.

TARONJA expects students to meet basic standards of behavior that affect both the school and the different types of accommodation offered. Inappropriate or unacceptable behavior by students will be grounds for expulsion, without the right to return to the school. TARONJA is solely in-charge of making the decision for what is considered negative or appropriate behavior. Students are responsible for the damage caused to the property of the school, and may be asked for financial or like-for-like replacement.

You must not be late for class. Students will not be permitted entry into the class 15 minu-tes after the start of the class.Mobile phones should be switched off at all ti-mes during class.

You must not eat or chew gum in classrooms.

Please behave in a respectful manner towards your classmates and teachers.

Participate in class actively and complete the exercises given in class. This will be rewarding and provide you with better results.

Sit correctly during class, and appropriately.

Respect the school’s resources and its facilities.

Keep your accommodation rooms and commu-nal living areas, clean. Be considerate of the other people that you are living with.

ENROLMENTRULES

Minimum age to enrol in TARONJA is 18. In special cases Students under 18 will only be attended. For students under 18, TARONJA requires that the legal representative or legal guardian of the minor accepts the terms and conditions of TARONJA in a document atta-ched.

There are many ways to reserve a place in a Spanish course.1) From our webpage: www.taronjaschool.com, in the Inscription section.2) Request the inscription form by sending an email to info@taronjaschool.com3) By phone +34 963258545 or Skype: taronjaschoolOnce we have received your completed enrolment form, we will send you a booking confirmation, at which point you will have to make a deposit of 150€ into the school bank account. This deposit is part of the course price and will be de-ducted from the total amount.Receiving the deposit indicates that the terms and con-ditions of the school have been read and accepted. Once the deposit has been received, we will send you detailed information about your course.Bear in mind that the rest of the fee must be paid in full at least 15 days prior to your first lesson.

We do not want you to miss ANY of your lessons, therefore we will check your Spanish level before your arrival. We will send you a level test by email and we will also do a Skype interview with you in order to place you in the correct level.

Students have to inform the school about thier arrival details: day, time, flight number, etc., at least 1 week be-fore the arrival date. This is very important, as we can then arrange for someoneto be waiting for the student in the accommodation. Students should arrive before 23:00 on the prior Sunday to the beginning of the course to their accommodation. Students arriving after 23:00 must book and pay the Ta-ronja airport transfer service.One week before the beginning of the course Taronja will send an e-mail with the accommodation details. Students have to check-out before 12:00 on the Satur-day after the end of their course. Arriving and departing on different days to the ones spe-cified above is possible by paying an extra charge.Students staying in apartments must leave a deposit of 50€ on the first day of class.

TARONJA can also pick you up at the airport at an extra cost.If the student wants this service he/she has to book it 3 days before his/her arrival.

TARONJA students are insured by the school, inside the school through a third party and outside the school in the activities organized by the school (trips, extra activities outside the school…). Our students ARE NOT insured by TARONJA school against illness, accident, theft, loss of personal posse-sions, or any other inconvenience.

TARONJA offers the possibility of arranging a medical in-surance for students at an extra cost. See price list.

Due to internal policy, all cancellations must be notified to TARONJA in advance by writing.In the case of cancellations made 30 days prior to the course commencement, the school will refund all fees paid deducting just the enrolment fee. The school will keep this amount during the year in question for a pos-sible course at a later date. At the end of the year this amount will be kept by the school.Should any cancellations be made 15 days before the course starts, the school will refund all fees paid deduc-ting the deposit (150€). A student may postpone his/her start date by giving TA-RONJA a minimum of 7 days notice before the course starts. All fees will be transferred to a later start date. Money will not, under any circustances,be refunded if a student arrives after the beginning of the course, misses class days, under his/her responsibility. If the student can-not attend one day his/her class, he will not reclaim the school the refund of the class. There be no possibility re-payment.

TARONJA will not accept any responsibility for such oc-currences. Students should check if their home country has any kind of medical agreement with the Spanish So-cial Security. European Community students and Swiss students should obtain the TSE (Sanitary European card). This is an individual card to obtain assistance during a temporal period in any city of the European Community or Swit-zerland.

Non-European community citizens should have an inter-national health insurance policy valid for Spain.

This clause applies to all the courses in general:Maximum number of students per class is 10, minimum is 4. If the number of students per class is less than 4, the school will reduce the number of class lessons to half the total

TARONJA is open all year, apart from certain public ho-lidays. These days can be found in Dates: Public Holi-daysAny classes lost due to these holidays will be made up during the course of the week in question.

TARONJA School expects that all students will comply wuth all class schedules, thus respecting the rest of stu-dents. Students will have to complete and send the level test at least one week before the start of the course. Duration of class lessons is 50 minutes.School office hours: Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 18:30Friday from 9:00 to 17:00.

At 9:00 am or at 15:30 pm, depending on the shift, the student will start directly with the Spanish lessons.The student will come to the school secretary where he/she will be given the welcome pack and will be told which class to attend. New students will have a gathering for useful advice and important information on their first day.

NOTE: We want to remind everyone that on the first day of class everything is new for you and for us, so plea-se KEEP CALM if you have any problems or complaints regarding your accommodation, classes, etc. Once you finish your lessons come to the secretary and we will try to answer your questions and find solutions for your problems.

All students who complete a Spanish course in Taronja School will receive a School Certificate that follows the “Common European Framework of Reference for Lan-guages”.However, to receive the Certificate it is necessary attend to, at least, 80% of the lessons.From the moment that a student signs up to TARONJA School, it is understood that the student has read and is in agreement with the above-mentioned stipulations. Inscription in TARONJA School implies the accepting of these rules.
