1 - GENERAL FEATURES Optional cards are intended to be used in connection with GMD, GAC, GMH, and BCW series POWER DRIVES. They are namely designed to be installed on the drive and thus, normally they are delivered mounted on the drive itself. Power supply is given from the connected drive by means of fastening columns, so fastening holes can be used only to mount OPTIONAL CARD on RTA DRIVE. The board does not give supply for external device. 1.1- INPUTS AND OUTPUTS For all input:

0 VOLT<Vin<30 VOLT:

LOW = Vin < 4 Volt – HIGH = Vin > 8 Volt T> 1msec. All outputs are open collector of a NPN transistor (max. 30 Volt – 25 mA). Remember external pull-up resistor. Using an output to drive a micro-relay coil (or any type of inductive load), remember to connect the external protection diode. All OUTPUT signals are optional. All INPUT signals and GND must be ALWAYS connected. Driving an input with a slow signal (i.e. relays) or with variable delay (i.e. PLC output) can give precision problem or, worse, make the card do not work at all. If you have this type of signal, contact R.T.A. 1.2- INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS Installation has to be done respecting following operating ambient condition:

- Temperature : from 0°C to 45°C

- Relative humidity: from 15 to 85% non condensing

- Vibrations : max. 0.5 G (frequency < 120 Hz.)

- Absence of liquid, gases, vapours or powders chemically aggressive or electrically conductive.

2 - FFM 04 FFM 04 is an optional card intended to drive a stepping motor at speed outside the start-stop zone. Main features are the following: - Enable and disable with external START and STOP signals (pulse)

- Operating frequency, slope and ramp length can be set by means of on-board DIP-SWITCHES.

2.1- FFM 04 SIGNALS Following NPN type signals are available: START INPUT : Motor starts and begins to accelerate on HIGH-to-LOW transition or short to

GND of this signal. T > 1msec. STOP (AUX) INPUT : Motor begins deceleration phase on HIGH-to-LOW transition or short to GND of

this signal. T > 1msec. Motor stops after the brake length you have set with A, B, F and G DIP-SWITCHES.

STEP OUT : Useful to connect an external counter. Remember pull-up resistor. BUSY OUTPUT (AUX2) : This output is low when the motor is running. REF INPUT : Speed reference signal input. EXTERNAL SPEED REFERENCE range is from

0V to 7V. In the table HIGH SPEED SETTING (page 4) you have the frequency values corresponding to an input of 7V (or when REF INPUT is not used). Don’t change the EXTERNAL SPEED REFERENCE when motor is running.

GND : Logic signals return.

4.2- SETTINGS It is possible to vary the acceleration and deceleration ramps slopes with DIP-SWITCH C. Slope is varied by inserting capacitors using DIP’s n° 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. With DIP’s in ON position capacitors are inserted. Ramp slope and consequently motor acceleration is decreased setting ON DIP with greater number. RMM can operate in a well defined input frequency range that is fixed from R.T.A. during construction and test procedure. Upper limit of this range (F max) cannot absolutely be exceeded; lower limit (F min) on the contrary simply defines frequency value under which ramp is not performed. 4.3- RAMP SLOPE SETTING (DIP C)

DIP C ON RAMP TIME

1 40 msec. 2 60 msec. 3 90 msec 4 180 msec. 5 300 msec 6 600 msec

Time to accelerate to the speed corresponding to F max or to decelerate from F max to stop. As an example, sending a pulse burst of frequency 75% of F max, time will be 75% of that shown in the table. Setting ON two or more DIP-SWITCHES, resulting RAMP TIME is the sum of the times. RMM 36 performs a linear ramp.

Fmax standard value = 10 KHz Fmin standard value = 350 Hz

4.4- SIGNALS TIMING

FIG. 11 D > 50 microsec. Fb = Fmin (as setting label located on the card) Fa < Fmax (as setting label located on the card). If Fa is less than Fmin motor is driven without ramp. W > Mechanical settling time (from 20 to 200 msec.). WARNING – Do not change STEP input signal frequency when motor is running. Ensure that step input signal has no jitters. With frequency jitters you have the following motor torque reduction:

nC π2≅∆

∆C = torque reduction. n = resolution in step/revolution (set on DRIVE). J tot = total inertial load to motor shaft.. 4.5- RMM – CARD LAYOUT

5 - LOGIC INTERFACING In this chapter some interfacing techniques are shown. They have to be considered only as an example. The best way to interface the drive with the control system can be chosen only with a complete knowledge of the control system and application needs.

6 - MOUNTING AN OPTIONAL CARD Optional cards are namely to be installed on the RTA drive and thus, normally they are delivered mounted on the drive itself. In any case an OPTIONAL CARD works only if mounted on a RTA drive. In this chapter ae given mounting instructions for optional cards delivered not mounted. This information does not exhaust the subject. In case of use ask RTA for the specific drive manual for a complete instruction. Mechanical mounting: use the three column present on the upper side of the printed circuit board. As far as regards the way to execute the mounting, follow what indicated in figure. After mechanical mounting has been completed, insert the connection cable and check carefully that the distance between any component mounted on P.C.B. of drive and any point of optional card is more than 2mm.

FIG. 21 NOTE - Columns 1 and 2 are used not only for mechanical blocking, but also for electrical connection of the

supply voltage (12 VDC – 25 mA) coming from drive for optional card. To avoid problems or failures, do not use those columns for other purpose, different from what here described.

7 - WARNINGS Do not cancel or remove the serial number: it is the fastest way, and, in some cases, the only one, that RTA has, in order to come back to information of special version , systematic installation errors, new releases or modifications. Consequences in case of repair will be:

• Long time

• Card taken back to standard version

• Greater difficulty of damage identification

Do not touch lacquered regulation trimmers, because these settings can be varied only in RTA offices. Do not try to repair the card: a repair attempt done without adequate knowledge of the driver and/or without adequate instrumentation normally ends up in more serious damages and in loss of warranty. Please specify malfunction characteristic and details of the operating conditions: these are very valuable information for the person in charge of the repair. A clear damage specification normally carries to:

• More fast repair

• Identification of possible installation or use errors, which could have generated the damage.
