With this video cassette player, use only
cassettes marked [VHS]. This video cassette player is designed to
play back the cassettes using the VHS PAL
or VHS MESECAM color system. The cas-
settes using the SECAM color system can also be played back in monochrome by
setting the color system selector to B/W.
This unit cannot be used in France.
In France, use the video cassette player for
the SECAM color system.
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do
not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.

Do not attempt to open the cabinet. There
are no parts inside you can service your-
self. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. To ensure reliable operation and to protect the unit from overheating, the ventilation slots and openings must not be blocked or
covered. Avoid placing in enclosed spaces
such as a book case unless there is ade- quate proper ventilation.
Keep the unit away from radiators and
heat sources.
Avoid using near strong magnetic fields.
Do not push objects of any kind into this unit through the cabinet slots as they could touch current-carrying parts or short-cir-
cuit parts resulting in fire, electric shock or
damage to the unit.
Be careful not to spill liquid of any kind on this unit. If liquid. is spilled into the unit,
consult a qualified service engineer. Use this unit in a horizontal (flat) position
only.
If the picture or sound is affected, keep the unit away from the TV.
Install the unit more than 1 m away froma
radio or receiver. Otherwise, noise may
occur during radio reception.

When your TV is not equipped with video/ audio inputs 1. Remove the VHF/UHF TV antenna coaxial
cable from the TV receiver and connect to the video cassette player.
2. Connect the video cassette player to the TV receiver using the supplied antenna
cable @. 3. Connect the supplied power cord @ to the
AC inlet of the video cassette player and to a wall outlet. Now the TV receiver is ready to receive TV broadcasting as well as video programs from the video cassette player.
When your TV is equipped with video/audio
inputs [3-2] Connect the VIDEO OUT and AUDIO OUT jacks of the video cassette player to the video input and audio input of the TV. Use optional connecting cords with phono plugs @. NOTE: Either the connection via the antenna cable or the connection with phono plug cords is pos- sible. If the connection to the TV receiver is impos- sible due to the shape of the terminal, consult the AIWA dealer.
The RF converter changes the video and audio signals played back from the video tape to the same type of signals used for TV broadcasts. Set. the RF converter to a channel not em- ployed for broadcasting, with the CHANNEL selector on the rear of the unit. GPSH model Set the CHANNEL selector to 3CH or 4CH, not employed for broadcasting. DIPH model The CHANNEL selector is factory-preset to UHF 38 channel. If that channel is employed for broadcasting, set the video channel as follows:

1. Tune the TV to a vacant channel between
UHF channel 30 and 39. 2. For DIPH model, set the television system
selector to the same position as your coun- try television system PAL | or PAL K.
3. Set the color system selector to PAL, or MESECAM according to the cassette tape to be played back.
4. Insert the cassette into this unit. Playback will begin.
5. Turn the CHANNEL selector with a small screwdriver until the playback picture is clearly displayed on the TV screen.
NOTES: e Video channel setting will only be neces-
sary, if your video cassette player and TV are connected via the supplied antenna cable.
e To watch TV programs, turn off this unit. When the unit is turned on, the signals from the video cassette player are automatically transmitted to the TV.
This unit will operate with any cassette that has the VHS mark.
When handling video cassettes, take the following precautions: e Avoid moisture — Moisture can condense
on the tape if it is moved from a cold place to a warm one. Playing a tape that has mois- ture on it will damage the tape and the unit. Before using a tape in this condition, wait until the tape has warmed to room tempera-
ture and the moisture has evaporated. e Avoid direct sunlight, extreme heat, high
humidity, magnetic fields and dusty places. e Do not drop the cassette or subject it to
vibrations. e Do not tamper with the cassette mecha-
nism. e Do not touch the tape with your fingers. e Store the cassette in its case.
CAUTION: Never insert anything other than a VHS video cassette through the cassette compartment door.

If the color of the playback picture is abnor-
imal e Ifthe setting of the color system selector is
incorrect, the picture may be monochrome or the color of the picture may be abnormal.
Check if the selector setting matches the
indication on the tape. e If the recording quality of the tape is poor,
the color of the picture may be reproduced incorrectly even if the color system selector setting is correct. In this case, set the color
system selector to B/W. The picture be-
comes monochrome but is easier to watch.
Return the color system selector to PAL or
MESECAM after playing back that particu- lar tape.

Press pid STILL/NOISE CANCEL during play- back. The picture will “freeze” on the screen.
You may use this feature to study details of a
particular scene. To return to normal playback, press B PLAY.
e When the still picture mode lasts for more
than 5 minutes, the unit is automatically set to stop mode to protect the tape.
¢ The still picture may shake if the transition
between pictures or a fast-motion picture is
freezed.
To move video noise lines on the screen
down for clear picture, keep pressing Pid
STILL/NOISE CANCEL or press it repeatedly
in still picture mode until the best picture is ob-
tained. e The video noise lines cannot be removed
completely depending on the recording
quality of the tape.

You may view the video program at high speed in either the forward or reverse direction. This
feature is used for locating a particular section
of a tape quickly. During playback, press®®FF momentarily to
view the tape at a fast speed in the forward
direction, or press<#@REW to view the tape at
a fast speed in the reverse direction. The sound will be muted. To return to normal
playback, press PLAY. © If FF or «4 REWiskept pressed, visual
search continues while the button is pressed
and normal playback is resumed when the
button is released.
NOTES: ¢ Noise lines will appear during visual search
operation. This is not a failure of the unit.
« Visual search cannot be performed cor-
rectly depending on the TV.
You may view a tape repeatedly.
Press C~ REPEAT to turn on the REPEAT
indicator.
When the tape reaches its end during play-
back, the tape will rewind to the beginning and
playback will resume. This rewind and play-
back cycle is repeated. To cancel repeat operation, press C2 RE-
PEAT again to turn off the indicator.
e Repeat operation will be cancelled. auto-
matically when the cassette is ejected.
e Repeat operation will be cancelled when the bP FF or <4 REW button is pressed dur-
ing automatic rewinding.

Youcan control the main functions of this video
cassette player by the infrared remote control
unit.
1. Open the battery compartment lid on the
rear panel. 2. Insert two batteries (SUM-3, R6P, AA).
Ensure the batteries are inserted with the
correct polarity (+,-).
3.. Close the battery compartment lid.
NOTICE: Incorrect battery use may cause leakage or
bursting. Observe the following precautions: e Insert the batteries in the correct polarity, as
indicated on the unit.
e Do not mix new batteries with old ones.
e Do not use different kinds of batteries, or
different voltages. e When the batteries are exhausted or when
the unit is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries.

Picture playback may be blurred or noisy while
the TV program received is clear. Dirt accumu-
lated on the head after long periods of use causes this problem. In this case, clean the
video head using a video head cleaning tape.
When the cabinet has become dirty or stained,
dip a piece of gauze or soft cloth into a diluted solution of neutral cleanser and wipe clean.
Never use thinners or benzine since they will
damage the surface of the cabinet.
1. To maintain the optimum performance of this video cassette player, regular periodic maintenance is required. Your dealer will
advise you further. 2. Maintenance and adjustments should not
be carried out by the user. In all cases of
