Title• The map title shows what

the subject of the map is.

Compass Rose

• A compass rose has arrows that point to all four principal directions: north, south, east, and west.

Legend

A legend, or key, explains whatthe symbols represent on a map.

Map Scales

• Scales represent the distances between points on a map.

• Scales give distances in miles and kilometers.

• Use your map and practice finding the distances between two states of your choice.

This is the scale!

Locator Map• A locator map shows

where in the world the area on a map is located.

• A locator map is basically a map that looks at a location from a more zoomed out perspective.
