TOFUKUJI MACHIYA - How to reach the house

The easiest way to go from Kyoto station to Tofukuji Machiya with your luggage is probably by taxi. It will take you less than 10 min from the station, and will cost about yen 1,000 (for up to four persons). The house is also easily reached by train (one stop) or by bus (#208).On foot, it takes about 20 min to walk from Kyoto station to the house (about 1 mile or 1,6 km).

The House

By Taxi:

As you may catch a taxi from either the Central Exit (arriving then from the north), or the Hachijo Exit (arriving then from the south), of the main JR Kyoto Station, here are instructions in Japanese for the taxi drivers for the final part:

東大路より、泉涌寺道の１本南の道を、西へはいって、7０ｍのところで下し

てください。

On Higashi Oji Street, our street is the one just south of Sennyujimichi Street. Go toward the west for about 70 m.

(A)右角にお蕎麦屋さんのある道をはいってください。 (Go in the road where you can see a noodle shop on the right corner)

(B) 道の反対側のDailyコンビニエンスストア (There is a Daily convenience store on the

other side of the road)

(C) 路地を直進

(Go straight into this small street)

( D )  左に消火器があるところ、ここで下してください。(There is a red fire extinguisher box on the side of the road.  Get off the taxi here.  The house is at the end of the little passage.

By Train from JR Kyoto Station

The house is a few minutes away from Tofukuji Station on the JR Nara line or the Keihan line. This station is one stop from Kyoto station and it takes 3 minutes. From Kyoto JR station, take the Nara line on track 8, 9 or 10. Make sure you get on a local train.

Take the Exit to Tofuku-ji Temple and go out of the station.

You’ll have to go up and down the stairs.

On the street, take a left at the Family Mart convenience store and walk to the Temple on the right

Walk straight for about 100 m until you see the red fire extinguisher box on the right side of the road. The house is at the end of the little passage.

By busDuring your stay in Kyoto, you’ll probably take the bus to visit various places. We’re fortunate to have two very convenient bus stops just minutes from the house - Sennyujimichi Bus Stop northbound (to go toward Gion, etc.) and southbound (top go to Toji Temple, etc.).

Simply go out of the house, walk to the small street, take a left to reach the Higashi Oji Street. These bus stops enable you to take bus #202, #207 and #208. You’ll find more information about the buses int the house.
