Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that April is upon us! I am sure
we are all looking forward to spring and the warm
weather. Hopefully you get to enjoy some extra
time together with your children this spring break.
School will be closed for spring break from March
30-April 8. School will reopen on Monday, April
9th.
The end of the third nine weeks grading period is
quickly approaching. Report cards will go home with students on April 20th. If
you have any questions about your child’s grades or progress, I encourage you to
contact your child’s teachers. Everyone benefits when we are able to create a
partnership between home and school. Our Power School Parent Portal is a
great way to keep up to date with your child’s progress on a regular basis. If you
need information on how to access and utilize this program, please let me know.
Included in this month’s newsletter is some information about upcoming events
at EIS. During the month of April, Mrs. Nash will be meeting with all 4th-6th
grade students to schedule electives for next year. Students will print out a copy
of the selections they made and bring them home to share with parents. Please
sign and return these forms to school once you’ve reviewed them with your
child. If you have any questions about scheduling electives, please get in touch
with Mrs. Nash.
We hope you enjoy reading through the newsletter this month to learn more
about the amazing things that have been going on in our school. If you have any
questions about our upcoming events or activities here at EIS, please feel free to
contact me at any time at [email protected] or 804-443-3040. Thank you
for your continued support!
Best regards,
Heather Gentry

EIS Library News
Each month, students from each grade level are nominated by the EIS staff for exhibiting our behavioral ex-
pectations and going above and beyond at our school. From these nominations, our staff members choose a
boy and a girl to be the “Student of the Month” for that month. For the month of March we recognized the
following students as our PBIS Students of the Month:
Each month we invite the family members of our students of the month to eat lunch with their children on the
stage in the cafeteria as a special recognition for their achievement. We look forward to recognizing the Stu-
dents of the Month for April soon!

We love to give writing a real purpose and to make it fun. One way to do this is to send some postcards. Let others know how your spring break is going!
Chose your penpal. Who would your child love to write to? A friend, a grandparent, a character from TV or a story, or even themselves?
Get your postcard and stamp. You can make a whole expedition out of going to the shop and post office. Or they might like to design their own postcard and draw it themselves. You just need some card stock paper.
Write your message. What would they like to say? This is all about fun and using writing for a real purpose – enthusing them with their own ability and showing them how clever writing can be, sending a message to someone else.
Add the address and post your card. Practice the correct way to address mail. They might like to send a card to themselves so they can watch out for the postman and see the process of the card being returned to them.
Wait for a reply. Tip off the recipient that a postcard is on the way and ask if they’ll write back to your child. If they’ve chosen to write to a TV character you might like to send a reply back on their behalf. This starts up a conversation and gives you lots more opportunities to interact with your child.
Calculate your costs. How much did the paper cost? Or, how much did you spend on post cards? How many stamps do you need? How much did each stamp cost? What was your to-tal cost?

Fear Factor Fridays!
A big thank you from all of the students at EIS to Ms. Hea-
ton, our School Nutrition Manager, for hosting “Fear Fac-
tor Fridays” for our students. Students were challenged to
taste different vegetables every Friday. Students who tast-
ed 9 out of 10 vegetables received free “cafeteria cash” to
use to purchase a snack, and students who tasted 10 out
of 10 vegetables had their names entered into a drawing
to win a “sit with a friend” pass at lunch. Our students en-
joyed their taste testing during the month of March!

the Greek myth Hercules. The play talks about Hercules and the com-
plications he had to face so that he could marry his future wife. The
