Marana High School Tiger Beat January 12, 2016 Vol. 2 Issue 23
Dr. Mandel’s Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please read the following message from Ms. Montiel –Turner:
First of all, TIGER PRIDE! Marana High School is an amazing school with a remarkable
community. It has been my privilege serving the athletes, parents and coaches for the
last four and half years. I am saddened to say I will be leaving Marana High School next
week. This was a very difficult decision and I still have a difficult time believing it is a
reality. I truly appreciate the opportunity the athletes, parents, and coaches have given
me in being their Athletic Director. It has been an honor!
Tiger Pride!
Ms. Monika Montiel Turner
I want to commend Ms. Montiel-Turner on her dedication to the Marana High School
community. She has put in countless hours and has been unrivaled in her passion for
Tiger Pride. She has provided the students, teachers, and athletes of MHS boundless
support. It is by no mistake that she calls the students, “her kids.” As she embarks on
her new path, I know that we all wish her well.
In order to assure a smooth transition and to provide administrative support for the
duration of the school year, we have been able to secure the assistance of three veteran
administrators. Due to previous commitments each administrator will work part time,
and beginning next week our substitute administrators will start their time on our
campus. They include:
- Jane D’Amore – Most recently, Ms. D’Amore was the principal of Tortolita Middle School until she retired from MUSD.
- Jan Truitt – Most recently, Dr. Truitt was an Assistant Superintendent in MUSD. She was also the principal of Marana High School during her career in MUSD.
- Susan Sloan – Ms. Sloan most recently was the Associate Principal and Athletic Director at Mountain View HS until she retired from MUSD.

As you can tell, we have the fortune to have a strong administrative staff joining us. I
am confident that our ability to serve the teachers, students, and community will be
strong in the coming months.
Have a great week,
Dr. David Mandel
Principal, MHS
