Neurohr taught children of the elementary ages for twelve years at Kohler, and has served as the principal of the elementary and middle school for the past three years. In 2008 Neurohr was the recipi- ent of the The Herb Kohl Educa- tion Foundation Fellowship Award in recognition of her superior abil- ity to inspire the love of learning in her students, motivate others, and provide meritorious service both inside and outside the class- room. She was selected as the Wis- consin Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2009, and represented Wisconsin in the National Teacher of the Year program; and Kohler School District Teacher of the Year (2007-8). In a letter sent to parents, Neu- rohr wrote: It is with great sadness that I an- nounce my resignation from the Kohler School District after fifteen years of service. After much con- sideration, my husband and I have decided to move to Michigan to be closer to family. The decision to leave is not an easy one, as my tenure here has been fulfilling both personally and pro- fessionally. I am espe- cially grateful for the outpouring of love and support you showed Scott and me after our son Kyle's accident. Thank you for placing your trust in me. The school board, adminis- trative team, staff and community have been a pleasure to work with and for. I am so proud of the stu- dents, of the work of the faculty and staff, and the progress we have made at Kohler Schools. I am committed to the strongest of finishes to this school year. Ms. Trueblood and I will work closely to provide the best transition for the new principal. The memories I have of my years here will be ones I treasure for the rest of my life. Kohler District Superintendent Quynh Trueblood and School Board president Marlene Yang re- leased a joint statement praising Neurohr’s service to Kohler Schools: “Over the years, Mrs. Neurohr has been the heart and soul of our schools. She is affec- tionately called NuNu by students and celebrated for her Halloween costumes, notably the Kohler Coaster, spaghetti and meatballs, and barrel of monkeys, just to name a few. She will be dearly missed.” The district plans to begin a search for a new principal imme- diately, and plans to hold staff and public input sessions with finalist candidates. Kohler Elementary/ Middle School Principal announces resignation Search for new principal to begin immediately By Quynh Trueblood, Superintendent On Monday, February 23, the School Board voted to approve an ad- ministrative restructur- ing of the Kohler Public Schools. This restructur- ing prioritizes instruc- tional leadership by segregating the principal and su- perintendent roles into three posi- tions: elementary principal with district-wide responsibilities for assessments and curriculum coor- dination; middle and high school principal; and superintendent. In the past six years, the Kohler School District has grown signifi- cantly in terms of expanded cur- riculum, focus on individual learning needs, and student popu- lation. Wisconsin State mandates via “Agenda 2017” have also greatly increased reporting and ac- countability requirements on all school districts. In November, 2014, the School Board began a re- view process to assess the effec- tiveness of the District’s structure to support its vision that Kohler Schools will be recognized for preparing 21st century thinkers and ethical and innovative leaders for a complex, global environment. The review, undertaken by Black Black Consulting, found the district’s combined administrative roles of elementary/middle school principal and high school princi- pal/superintendent insufficient to support high quality ed- ucation in the current environment. The Board studied the financial and organizational viability of several options before its February 23rd vote. Matt Kautzer, School Board Treasurer, stated the addition of one principal is affordable and added, “The Board and administra- tion have a long standing emphasis on prudently managing school dis- trict finances and, as a result, is in a position to forge ahead with this investment in our school for the betterment of the students and the district as a whole.” “The report by Black Black Consulting highlighted the strong voices of many who believe that our schools are at their best with leaders who promote a positive cli- mate and culture, connect with stu- dents and families, and are instructional leaders….these changes are the best step forward in reaching new heights at Kohler Schools” stated Board President Marlene Yang and Superintendent Quynh Trueblood in a joint letter to faculty, staff, and families. The administrative restructuring will take effect in the 2015-16 school year. The District wishes to thank the school community and supporters for their continued trust in our schools. The most memorable thingabout attending Kohler Schools, literally, was the staff. We hadwonderful teachers, all the wayfrom kindergarten through highschool. I can think of at least onenugget of knowledge from eachgrade, each class, that I took withme into adulthood – it has all mademe the person I am.

Now that a bid for the projecthas been accepted, reconstructionof the dormant Wisconsin South-ern rail spur between Plymouthand Kohler is finally scheduled tobegin this spring and be com-pleted by October 31, 2015. It isexpected to be several years, how-ever, before trains are actually en-tering the Village of Kohler.

The upcoming construction willfocus on preparing for rail trafficbetween Plymouth and the BemisManufacturing Company’s facilityon the west side of SheboyganFalls. Although reconstructedtracks and crossings will extendthrough downtown SheboyganFalls and as far as the Ridge Courtcul-de-sac in Kohler, there will beno reason for any trains to travelbeyond Sheboygan Falls until thebridge across the ravine in Kohleris repaired. That is not expected tooccur any time soon.

Rick LeMahieu, a consultantwith engineering design firmAecom, speaking at the recentFebruary 3 meeting of the She-boygan Falls City Council aboutthe rail reconstruction, said, “It is

true there are no plans to run trainsfurther than Bemis at this point. The Wisconsin DOT owns theright of way for the line to Kohler, and it needs to bring the line up tothe ravine in Kohler in order for itto run trains to Sheboygan some-day…. This process could take along time. The reality of trainsrunning to Sheboygan could bemeasured in years at this point.”(Sheboygan Falls News, February11, 2015)

Sheboygan Falls will feel an

impact much sooner. Although thenew tracks will be placed in thesame location as the previousones, new standards require widerclearances than in the past. As aresult, several downtown build-ings will lose some of their park-ing or loading areas, and lanewidths on some streets near a railcrossing will decrease from 11feet to 10 feet, a noticeablechange. “People are going to feela bit crowded,” said LeMahieu.

Celebrating the tunnelmural!By Kohler Elementary Art Teacher StacyStanley.

I am so excited to announce that the tun-nel mural is finally complete!

Last Spring Kohler Elementary art stu-dents started working on an art mural. Themain objective was to learn and witnessfirsthand the effect a mural can make on itssurroundings (the school tunnel). It was agreat way to bring students together anddemonstrate how visuals can be a very pow-erful form of communication.

I am so proud of each student’s contribu-tion – big or small – they all worked to-gether to create an amazing cityscape thatbrightens the tunnel and makes everyonesmile!

A huge thank you to Sonya Anderson forall of the time she spent working with stu-dents each day. It was truly a labor of love.

I would also like to thank Kohler SchoolFriends for financially supporting the proj-ect.

Inreading, they are learning about the ele-ments of a story, using expression whilethey read, learning letter sounds, identify-ing high frequency words and segmentingwords and blending letters to make words, rhymes and syllables. At this point in theyear, they are also writing complete sen-tences independently, using sound writingand high frequency words. During ReadingWorkshop, students are becoming more in-dependent and responsible while workingon a variety of independent reading activi-ties and skill work in small groups. In math, they are practicing their numbers (bothidentification and writing) from 0 to100. They are beginning to practice skipcounting and will soon begin addition. Oneevent they are really looking forward to isthe 100th day of school. In science, theywrapped up their unit on animals and arebeginning to learn about matter. Our second graders are working on exposi-tory (“how to”) writing. How to build asnowman is the prompt they areusing. Students will peer edit and collabo-rate on their writing assignments, thendraw their snowman. The drawings will behung up and students will have to guesswhose snowman it is, based upon the writ-ten description. They have also beenworking on poetry in reading and are hav-ing fun exploring the different types of po-

Tonight, David Chen, NoahFink, Aidan Hogan, PatrickMarzano, Charlie Tobin, JordanToeller, John Tengowski, andJakob Wickert were honored fortheir dedication to the boys’ bas-ketball team.

Senior night is a night of good-byes. Saying goodbye to two-a-days, 6 am conditioning, long busrides, and grueling workouts. Butmost importantly, it is sayinggoodbye to your teammates. It’sthe end of a journey and the begin-ning of the next step.

As parents and fans, it’s achance to congratulate and appre-ciate what they have accomplished

throughout the years. We can drawa sense of pride from knowing theygave their all to Kohler while theywere here and that the relation-ships and bonds they formed witheach other both as friends andteammates will remain. Congratu-lations seniors.
