Dear Exhibitors, Sponsors and Attendees:
We would like to personally welcome each of you to the Electro Expo 2015 – Powering Innovation + Technology trade show and conference. It’s an exciting time for our businesses as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining always customer-focused, motivated and responsive. Our industry is confronting a time of many changes and we’re meeting these changes during a time of larger nationwide and global change. The world of power, lighting, low voltage systems and clean energy is an exciting area in which to work, and we’ll continue to meet and bring inspired people together in forums like this, to ensure we remain at the cutting edge.
Over the next few days our attendees will have the opportunity to network with over 300 of the leading manufacturers in our business and attend over 40 presentations from industry leaders. The conference offers many opportunities for continuing education for license holders, all sponsored by our region’s premier distributors!
We would like to thank each of you for supporting our conference and bringing your expertise to our event. You have the vision, the knowledge and the expertise to help us pave our way into the future. You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we do without your support and leadership. Throughout the conference, we ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of industry. After the Expo, we ask that you remember the businesses that demonstrated their commitment to our region. On behalf of the Electrical League of Ohio, our appreciation and gratitude goes out to the manufacturers, agents, distributors and corporate sponsors for their commitment to the Electro Expo 2015. Illuminating the Future of LightingTime: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM
Track: Lighting ■Speaker(s): Mark Lien LC, CLEP, CLMC, HBDP, LEED BD&C; Director - Government & Industry Relations, OSRAM SYLVANIADescription: Nobody saw this coming. The lighting industry today reflects changes that were not anticipated, rushing at a pace that is unprecedented. The electrical industry has been slow to progress. Receptacles, switches and the vacuum tubes (incandescent, fluorescent and HID) we generate most of our artificial lighting from are embarrassingly similar to products from 100 years ago. This sleepy industry now faces radical transformation not just from switching to solid state sources but also with re-education, changes to regulations, standards, legislation and new manufacturing equipment and processes.Continuing Education: TBA

Designing industrial networks using TIA-1005a: What’s industrial about industrial networksTime: 1:00 PM–3:00 PMTrack: Low Voltage Systems
Speaker(s): Gregg Schaefer, Regional Automation Manager, Anixter and BICSI RCDD, NTS, ESS; ISA Description: An overview of the contents of the premises standard ANSI TIA-1005a and focus on the exceptions to TIA-568 which is the commercial standard for structured cabling in the enterprise. Although TIA-1005a is only about 50 pages long, it is difficult to read and lacks the explanation of why industrial applications need these exceptions. This presentation fills in these gaps. For example, why are industrial network topologies almost always shaped like rings? TIA-1005a provides an exception for cabling between multiple TRs or TEs but does not explain why they are needed. I branch off to discuss the failure recovery mechanisms which go beyond RSTP for loop detection and reduced failure recovery times. Continuing Education: BICSI - One (1) CEU - Design Industrial Networks Using TIA-1005A Certificate will be provided
LED Lighting: What You Must KnowTime: 2:00 PM–3:00 PMTrack: Lighting ■Speaker(s): John (Jack) W. Curran, PhD, President of LED Transformations LLC, Ohio Department of EnergyDescription: This course will provide an overview of LED lighting, covering the underlying basics of the technology as well as design choices made by manufacturers and designers. Fundamental differences between LED and traditional lighting will be discussed showing how those differences offer new design opportunities to architects and lighting designers, as well as new problems for specifiers, contractors, distributors and facility managers. LEDs’ origins in the semi-conductor world will be examined to see why this relationship often creates conflict and confusion in the lighting world. Finally, Dr. Curran will present his view of the future of the lighting industry, as LEDs become the dominant light source and lighting controls become commonplace in almost all applications. This new age of “personal lighting,” will forever change how lighting is used and may bring some unexpected consequences for the lighting industry.Continuing Education: TBA
