Our Mission:Rooted in Christ, touched by His love and mercy, the Saint John Berchmans community finds unity in its diversity, proclaims by Word, Sacrament, and service, that the Kingdom of God is at hand, and declares that all are welcome in this place.

APR

Today we begin the most important week of the Liturgical Year. The celebrations this week are the earliest in the history of the Church. From the celebrations surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus all other liturgies in the course of the year were developed. It is in these celebrations this week that we tell the stories of our faith community, the Church, and welcome new members of our parish family and celebrate from Thursday night to Sunday night the three great liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. In this process we renew a sense of our identity as a Christian People and resolve to follow Christ more intensely even if the path takes us to our own personal Calvary. If we participate in any celebrations in the course of the year we should be present for this trilogy of liturgies that define us as followers of Jesus Christ.

On Thursday we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and remind ourselves of our call to service in the foot-washing ritual and honor and adore the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and in the reserved Host. Adoration takes place after the Mass until midnight. It is also the night for pilgrimages to other churches.

On Friday there is no Mass but rather the Celebration of the death of Jesus, which showed the immense depth of God’s love for us. We receive Communion with hosts consecrated at the Holy Thursday Mass.

On Saturday we participate in the most colorful, lengthy and meaningful Liturgy in the entire Year of Grace. We receive light from the new fire and the Easter Candle and process into a darkened church bearing the light of Christ. After the hymn in honor of the Paschal Candle we settle down to hear the principal stories of our Faith tradition and then celebrate joyfully the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, welcoming our Catechumens and Candidates into full membership in the Catholic Faith and renewing our own covenant vows and promises. All families rejoice when new members come to the family. A festive social occurs afterwards in the parish hall as we continue to rejoice with new members of our family.

All this begins with the introductory celebration of Palm Sunday. We carry the blessed palms in tribute to Christ, our King and our guide. They key features of this Mass are the procession and the proclamation of the passion and death of Jesus.

Processions have a long history in the church. They remind us that Christian Life in this world in an ongoing journey of pilgrimage toward God and our eternal home. We have come from God. We are wayfarers in this world on our way back to God. Processions remind us that we are a pilgrim people. We march together as a community of faith as Jesus guides us along the way.

HAPPY HOLY WEEK!

Parish AnnouncementsParish AnnouncementsHOLY THURSDAY ADORATION

On Holy Thursday, we will again have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament following the 7:30pm Mass until midnight. By doing this, we fulfill the command of Our Lord to keep watch with him on the eve of his passion. Please consider committing some time to pray with our community in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament before Good Friday.

PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION

Through the Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace in a troubled land. In these challenging times in the Middle East, your support means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians, maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land. PLEASE BE GENEROUS! For more information about Christians in the Holy Land, visit www.myfranciscan.org/good-friday.

BLESSING OF THE EASTER FOODS

Please join us at 12 noon on Holy Saturday, March 26th for the traditional blessing of the Easter Food. All are welcome to bring their Easter meal for a special blessing.

St. John Berchmans Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Easter Sunday immediately following the 9:45am & 11:30am Masses. Come out after Mass and join us in the courtyard. On Saturday, April 9th there will be an anointing Mass at 5:00pm. All those who are ill in body or mind are welcome to come and be anointed.

A YEAR OF MERCYPRAY FOR THE LIVING

AND THE DEADWe extend the mercy of God to our brothers and sisters, living and deceased, when we intercede for them and place them in God’s hands. In these prayers, we are connected with our brothers and sisters and with the merciful Lord himself. I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and

revelation as you come to know him. (Ephesians 1:16–17)

¡FELIZ SEMANA SANTA!
