COBDEN DISTRICT PUBLIC SCHOOL
MARCH 2015
Dear Parents, Staff & Students,
I’d like to start by wishing one of Special Education Teacher Assistants, Ms. Burchat, well as she leaves us in preparation for her new child. Replacing her is Miss O’Nanski-Huot. We are pleased to have Miss O’Nanski-Huot join us for the remainder of this school year. Our annual Winter Away Day was once again a huge success. On January 29th, students from Grades 4 - 8 travelled to Calabogie Ski Hill for skiing, Pembroke and Petawawa for swimming and activities at Dundonald Hall, and Arnprior for a movie and bowling. It was a fantastic day. Students had fun on their respective trips, and all made it home safely despite the heavy snow that developed in the afternoon. I would like to thank all parents/guardians for supporting this day, Mr. Covell and Mme. Sara for their organizational role, all staff for supervising the activities and all students for once again representing Cobden District Public School so well. Speaking of good character, I’d like to thank the students as well for their behaviour while kept inside during the many, many indoor recesses that we have had this past month. As per policy, we keep students in when the temperature dips below minus 22… and there have been many of those days. Please continue ensuring that our students are dressed appropriately for the weather. I’d also like to thank our Parent Council for their hard work over the years raising money for the purchase of new playground equipment. I’m happy to report that a new play structure for our Kindergarten Yard has been ordered and should be installed in time for our spring outdoor play season. As a group, Parent Council has met three times already this year and will meet again in May, after our Fun Fair. That said, should you wish to be part of this fantastic group of dedicated volunteers prior to the May meeting, there will be committee meetings to assist in the planning of Fun Fair. Feel free to contact to the school to express an interest in participating.

Attention Parents
The Joint Transportation Consortium has given clear guidelines to all schools in Renfrew County that bus passes are only to be issued when there is an emer-gency situation. Bus passes for social reasons are not permitted.
Please send a note or put information in your child’s agenda if there is any change to their usual plans at the end of the day… ie. pick-up by parent or someone other than parent, child not going on the bus, child not going to Super Kids, curling, etc.
CDPS Music Program Mrs. Jenny Bell and her school band are producing some awesome sounds in the music room these days, not the least of which is Jordan Oattes on his drum kit (below)! We are fortunate to have this enriching program in our school.

The Grade 8 Boys’ Basketball Team travelled to
RCI on February 24th to take part in their annual
tournament. After going winless during round-
robin play, the boys picked a good time to start
winning and they tyied the consolation final making
them co-consolation champs. As always, it was a
pleasure to spend the day with hard working,
positive athletes, Congratulations to team
members: Bryson Duncan, Curtis Hendry, Jonathan
Peever, Ryan McIntyre, Carter Mick, Kevin Ready,
Jordan Ritchie, Alex Stoppa and Adam Wood.
CANDY-GRAMS 2015
The Junior students of CDPS were kept very busy selling candygrams this
Valentine’s season. Students throughout the school got in the Valentine spirit by ordering over 1,100 candy grams which
were delivered to their friends. The money raised during this event will be
used to support the Junior Basketball Tournament in June.
Thanks to everyone for helping to make our fundraiser a giant success!

CDPS FUN FAIR - Help Wanted!
After March Break holidays, planning will begin for the CDPS 2015 Fun Fair. Due to the growing number of school activities and educational commitments we have this year, parent support and involvement is crucial for the Fun Fair to be successful. Parents who are interested in becoming actively involved in the Fun Fair Committee,
should contact Mrs. Benson at school.
