A Message From Our Community Lay Director
Volume 23, Number 03
March 2015 The Walk Way
February has always been a hard month for me. By
then I am tired of winter, sick of ice, done with
mud, and ready to see horses and ponies that do
not look like “mudwamps” every night when they
come into the barn. The nights are too long, the
days too short, and the wind too cold. And I am
weary of it all.
But the month of March is a different story alto-
gether. March holds promise in its name. You can
almost smell the scent of spring as you turn the
calendar page over and envision the green grass
starting to sprout. The daffodils will push their
tender shoots up through the soil and even though
the mud, the rain, the cold, and the “mess of win-
ter” may continue for awhile, you know there is
hope.
It’s that way with life sometimes, isn’t it? We can
get so tired of the daily grind, the problems that
keep popping up, the stresses that we never
thought we would have to contend with, all the
“mud, cold, and snow” in our lives. Some days I
think for every problem I solve, three more show
up. Some days it seems that it was not worth
getting out of bed. And some days the world just
seems to overwhelm me.
But someone recently mentioned you have to look
down to be able to look up. That comment stopped
me for a minute. I thought she had seriously lost
her mind for a second.
She went on to explain that God puts all sorts of
wonders under our feet as well as over our heads.
You will never see the daffodil growing if you don’t
look down at the ground. You won’t appreciate the
beauty of God’s world if you don’t open your eyes
to every angle that He gives to you.
Sometimes I have to remember that the mud, the
ice, the snow, the cold is all part of the plan that
God has to help me grow. While I am out there
thrashing around in the storms of my life, I
have to concentrate on how God is using
these circumstances to help me grow to be
more of a Christian for Him.
A passage from my daily devotions recently
said to remember to walk purposefully with
God, allowing Him to direct our day one step
at a time. We need to thank Him for each
blessing we see, such as the promise of the
daffodil starting to sprout. Thanking God
brings joy into our hearts. And a grateful
heart protects us from negative thinking (and
believe me, there is way too much negative
thinking in the world already—no more is
needed). Do not worry about the future—the
future belongs to the Lord, and He will guide
you through it. Worrying about life, fretting
about life, complaining about life, is just an
act of rebellion to the Lord.
Psalm 32:8 is my verse for today—the Lord
says “I will instruct you and teach you in the
way you should go; I will guide you with My
eye.”
That works for me as an individual, it works
for our Emmaus community as a whole.
And I’m looking forward to seeing the prom-
ise of spring in His beautiful creation, the
Daffodil.

A Message From Our Spiritual Director
So, what are you giving up for Lent? Chocolate? Soda? Fried
foods? Dessert? Coffee? (please no) Many people will use this time to
give up something for God. I guess that’s okay. After all maybe you
will lose a few pounds and you might even lower your cholesterol.
There’s not a thing wrong with that. Amen!
But I was thinking. Maybe instead of giving up something, maybe we could gain
something. How about gaining a greater understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ? Maybe you could give up Facebook and read more Faithbook. Maybe you could
give up an extra hour of sleep and start attending Sunday School. Maybe you could give up
one hour of television each night and read some good Christian literature. (Grow Through
Study ring a bell?)
Many Christians recently observed Ash Wednesday. You know the story; if you were
repentant of your sins and remorseful, early 6th century Christians would sprinkle ashes on
their head as a sign of remorse. Today, we make the sign of the cross on our foreheads with
ashes. I was a participant in one of these services and really liked it. Now, let me be clear,
there is NOTHING wrong with Ash Wednesday services, NOTHING! But, I kinda feel like
God is more concerned with what is going on in your heart, than what is on your forehead.
So, what is going on in your heart? Are you good? Praise
God! But, what do you need to work on? When you look in the mir-
ror, besides wrinkles, what is it that you need to work on to be a bet-
ter Christian? For me, that’s Lent. I could certainly lay off the fast
food and dessert. I could stand to lose more than a few pounds!
However, I think I’ll take this time to gain more Jesus in my life. I
want to be a better Christian tomorrow than I was today. How about you?
Grateful,
Pastor Bob

ACCEPTING CHRIST ISN’T THE FINAL CHAPTER
As we traverse this season of Lent, I am reminded that when we accept Christ as our personal savior, it is
not the finish line. We have merely found the right race. And because we have found the right race, we
can be confident in two things; what is at the finish line (eternal fellowship with God) and that WE WILL
finish. Paul writes,
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day
of Jesus Christ. -Philippians 1:6.
While we don’t know the exact path or obstacles that we will meet along the way, we are given a guide -
- Holy Spirit - and a map - The Bible - to show us the way. Therefore, let us dwell on Christ during these
days leading up to the celebration of Easter.
We were especially blessed this past month as we celebrated our first RUSH of the year. We met for a
business meeting and worship service, and then travelled to Pocomoke for an evening of bowling, pizza,
and good fellowship. We saw some amazing bowling, with one of the youth bowling four strikes in a
row! Several of our Chrysalis youth were in attendance, and a few of them brought along friends that we
hope will come back and fly with us in November. That’s right, we have scheduled flights for ESC 25 and
26. These flights are scheduled for 19-22 November, 2015. So, start sending in your team and caterpil-
lar applications.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. God is doing great things within this community
and we are excited to see what He has in store for us in the future. God is GOOD…All the Time.

Outreach How exciting it is to see God calling Teamers and Pilgrims to an Emmaus Walk. As you can see, Emmaus is busy in our community, our nation, and in all of the world. We as believer’s have a responsibility to do 3 things. That is to pray and then to pray some more and then to pray without ceasing for these Walks that are coming up. Psalm 46:10—Be Still and know that I am God. In Christ, Rex Mayfield, Agape Outreach

Prayer Team “We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties.” Oswald Chambers
Brothers And Sisters In Christ,
In the most difficult times that we face, it is obviously a challenge not to focus mainly on the circumstances that
have brought us to those times.
When I see the quote above however, I am reminded that when we pray it is more important to focus our attention
on what God can do than what it is that we are going through. To trust fully in the promises that he has made to see
us faithfully through the obstacles of our lives.
With this in mind in regards to prayer, I would like to invite each of you to be a part of the Emmaus Prayer Team.
Prayer Team emails are currently received by approximately 125 members of the community. If you would like to
be included or simply have a prayer request, please send a message to:

SPONSORSHIP CORNER!
Remember when talking to potential pilgrims to always try to include the spouse.
The experience of Emmaus is one that should be shared with husband and wife.
We want the pilgrims to be able to share their experience with their spouse to en-
hance their 4th day.

Challenge of the Month:
1) Find a pilgrim and sponsor them for these Spring walks.
2) Bring someone to Emmaus who hasn’t been there. Also, the March gathering is a com-
bined Emmaus/Chrysalis gathering so let’s see how many
people we can get to attend. It’s at Lower Northampton
Baptist Church so let’s fill up the sanctuary!
Monthly Trivia Question:
Who made the first banner for our community for ES#1?
The first person to come up to me (Gail Deans) with the correct answer
will receive some agape!
Who will win this month????
Congratulations to Ruth LeMoyne who won last month with the correct
answer of Dick Trotter.
