THE DAYSTAR UN IVERS I TY WEEK LY
The University’s Executive members hosted a farewell dinner in honor of the outgoing Chancellor and Council Chair, Dr. Florence Muli-Musiime on Saturday March 12, 2016 at the Best Western Hotel in Hurlingham, Nairobi.
The event started off with an entertaining performance by
Afrizo after which the Vice-chancellor, Dr. Timothy Wachira
welcomed and introduced the guests. In his speech, the
incoming Council Chair Prof. George Krhoda saluted Dr. Muli-
Musiime for the 11 years of selfless, dedicated service and
applauded her first, for being the first ever lady Chancellor in the
country and secondly, for keeping with the slogan “A University
with a Difference,” by the way she led and maintained a
peaceful period within the university. He further appreciated
her leadership skills and work. He went on to add that though
this was a farewell dinner to acknowledge her effort, she would
not leave office until someone successfully succeeds her. In
reference to Daystar’s Vision and Mission, Prof Krhoda went
on to say, “…Florence has relied on the foundations of the
Lord in continuing the construction of Daystar University.” In
this respect he acknowledged the contributions of the University
Co- founders, Dr. Don and Mrs. Faye Smith, the first Vice-
chancellor Prof. Stephen Talitawala, Daystar Company Chair,
Dr. Macmillan Kiiru and all other members who went ahead of
him in forming the basis of Daystar University.
He further praised Dr. Muli-Musiime on the accomplishments
during her tenure, giving an example of how she streamlined
the leadership structure and clarified the roles of the board

and Daystar US, as well as the financial management of the
University. “She did all this to deflect conflict and bring harmony
to the executive running of the university,” he noted.
On her part Dr. Florence Muli-Musiime thanked everyone for
their valiant support during her tenure. “It was not easy; there
were times of tension and turbulence, but we worked together as
one team,” she said. On matters of transition, she encouraged
Prof. Krhoda by advising him on the virtues of being strong and
resilient. She informed him that there are tough times ahead
which will need tough decisions; decisions that will require him
to be firm, and to impart justice that must be emitted with mercy.
This, she added must be done for a common purpose. She
ended by saying she can never forget Daystar, first, because
it has become her family and secondly because her daughters
are alumni, and for this, she will always be indebted to Daystar
University.
In closing, a few members were called upon to give their
comments. Ms. Hephzibah Beulah, Company Member and
Daystar alumnus, related the events of the day to a mother, Dr.
Muli-Musiime handing over to her son, Dr. Krhoda and termed this
as a new birth, full of hope and promise. A Company member,
Dr. James Karau expounded on the servant leadership qualities
shown by Dr. Muli-Musiime coupled with her efforts of keeping
her family intact throughout the tough times. He expressed his
utter amazement at the fact that Dr. Muli-Musiime gave all her
allowances to the kitty for furthering the education of the needy
students, and termed it as, “ultimate servant leadership.”
Dr. Jotham Musiime, husband to Florence shared on the
challenges they faced especially 11 years ago when he was
not sure if she should take up the position of the Chancellor. After
long deliberations and prayer, they accepted the challenge.
Today as they look back, they are grateful to God for seeing
them through the journey.
Prof Kinoti, Company Member, finalized the proceedings
with words of wisdom and prayers, followed by Mrs. Wairimu
Nyoike, Company Member and Dr. Kiiru, both of who put forth
requests to the Good Lord to show favor to Prof. Krhoda and
bless Dr. Florence Muli-Musiime.

The Department of Science & Engineering in the School of Science, Engineering & Health, wishes to acknowledge and thank Bethel University and specifically Prof. Dick Peterson for the gift of two optics laboratory kits.
Dr. Martha Kiarie, Dean of SSEH, added that these kits
will go a long way in improving the teaching of Physics in
Daystar University. The kits will allow students to carry out over
20 laboratory experiments demonstrating the basic principles
of optics. They contain a light source, various lenses, prisms,
mirrors, polarizers, and other optical components along with
an “optical bench” that allows precise location of optical
elements, and measuring the distances between them.
Thank YOU! to Bethel University
In apprecition, Dr. Kiarie specifically mentioned Dick
Crombie for the gift, describing it as “...a very significant
addition to our laboratory equipment in physics”.
In addition she said that Daystar University would like to
acknowledge and appreciate the fact that our visitors from
Bethel University, including Prof. Jeff Port who visited Daystar
in January 2015, always bring some science equipment with
them to equip our labs, whenever they happen to visit. “We
are very grateful for this contribution and may this friendship
