Kay Armitage

Kay was born and

raised in Stittsville, Ontario with five sisters and a brother. Kay went to

business college in Ottawa and Carleton Place. She went to work at the

Metropolitan Insurance company during the Second World War. Kay

met her husband Frank when she was 16 at a dance. He was in the

Army at that time. They married at the age of 21.

Kay and Frank first lived at Lynn Lake in Manitoba in a log house with a

tent roof for about a year, before returning to South March to run her

husband’s family farm. They ran the farm for 8 years where Kay did a

lot of babysitting for friends and neighbors. Kay and her family did lots

of travelling. Living in Florida for a year when her husband worked in

construction. They also lived in Ottawa where he was a Superintendent

in construction, and in Dunrobin where they spent 20 years renovating

a farm house.

Kay has spent her entire life having a good time and living by this

quote: “Things always turn out best for those who make the best of the

way things turn out.” Welcome Kay!

When we brush our teeth, we should also remember to brush our tongue.

Did you know that just like our finger-prints, everyone’s tongue print is dif-ferent? Our tongue is the only muscle

Fun Facts for March

On This Day in Canadian History

The name March comes from the Roman god of war, Mars. It is the first month of spring time. In the Southern Hemisphere March is the

equivalent to September in the Northern hemisphere.

The new year used to be celebrated in March in most of Europe.

This is the time of year when animals start to wake from hibernation. The birthstone for March is Aquamarine and the birth flower is the Daffodil.

March 10, 1950 - Aviation - Avro Jetliner flies to Ottawa from Toronto in a record-smashing 36 minutes for a demonstration in front of government officials, military leaders and dignitaries at the Rockcliffe airport, followed by a promotional tour across North America. In April, the Jetliner carried the world’s first jet airmail from Toronto to New York in a record 58 minutes. Howard Hughes ordered a flight of 30 C-102s for Trans World Airlines, but Minister C.D. Howe ordered Avro to halt development in 1951 to concentrate on the CF-100 jet fighter for the Korean War.

March 23, 1984 - Figure Skating - Canadians Barbara Underhill & Paul Martini won the Ice Pairs at the World Figure Skating Championships in Ottawa. Britain's Jane Torvill & Christopher Dean won the Ice Dance, Katarina Witt of East Germany, the Ladies’ event, and Scott Hamilton of the USA ,the Men’s event.
