Rd. Dwelling fire—Beekman firefighters / Town of
Beekman - EMStar Medics assisted by LaGrange, East
Fishkill, Union Vale, and the DCSO operated at this
structure fire in a ~ 4000 sq. ft. residence on Pleasant
Ridge Rd. Monday evening. DC 911 advised responding
units that one caller they had for the incident (A neigh-
bor) reported that there was smoke coming from a
second-floor window as well from the roof around the
chimney, there was a car in the driveway, and that they
had been unable to alert any occupants. When fire-
fighters arrived on the scene they had an active fire
and they went to work and were faced with
changing winds that made things difficult for fire-
fighters. Fortunately, the occupants were not home
at the time of the fire however there were several
pets that were lost despite the best efforts of fire-
fighters. Nice job by all those on the scene. The
cause of the fire is under investigation by the
Dutchess County Department of Emergency
Response - Cause and Origin Team and the
DCSO.

03/12/19 general alarm Yonkers, NY 1 Garrett Pl. fire in a six
story OMD—A plumber's torch caused a massive fire, which
burned for hours throughout a block long, occupied apartment
building. A plumber soldering pipes in a six floor bathroom
touched off a fire which burned unnoticed for an undetermined
amount of time. The fire is believed to have spread via a pipe
chase and into the cockloft before being noticed and reported.
The fire then spread rapidly throughout the cockloft of this block
long, occupied, multiple dwelling. Firefighters were outmatched
as the fire had a head start on them. They were soon called off the
roof and out of the building as conditions rapidly deteriorated.
Multiple alarms were rapidly transmitted to bring all of Yonkers
firefighting force to the scene. Additional companies were
brought in from surrounding towns throughout lower Westchester
County to help fight the blaze. The fire burned across the entire
complex via the cockloft and shafts before dropping down into
the apartments throughout the building. Multiple ladders, master
streams and hand lines from surrounding roof tops were deployed
to fight the fire. The fire would burn for close to twelve hours
before being declared under control at five a.m. the next morning.
Hundreds of civilians were displaced by the fire. Several fire-
fighter sustained minor injuries.

03/30/19 2nd alarm E. Fishkill, NY dwelling fire—East
Fishkill assisted by La Grange, Beekman, Village of Fishkill,
Hughsonville, and New Hackensack operated at this residen-
tial structure fire at #171 Beekman Rd. Saturday afternoon.
DC911 advised that the calling party reported smoke and fire
could be seen in the second-floor window of the structure.
The first in apparatus had fire coming from the second-floor
windows on the A-B side and went to work quickly knocking
down the majority of the fire in the balloon construction
farmhouse. Crews then worked to chase the remaining
fire through the voids in the ceiling, roof, and walls as
occasional wind gusts fanned the flames. Fortunately,
the occupants were safely accounted for and swift ac-
tion by firefighters significantly limited damage to the
residence. Rombout and Pawling provided station cov-
erage during the incident and the cause of the fire is
under investigation.

03/31/19 Poughkeepsie, NY Mill St apartment fire—
City of Poughkeepsie assisted by Arlington, Fairview,
and Mobile Life Paramedics operated at this structure
fire at 465 Mill St. last evening. City 911 advised
responding units that "one individual apparently was
not leaving the building". Units arrived to find an active
fire with at least one individual was now trapped on
the second floor. Firefighters located and removed
one individual via a ladder from a second-floor window
and then after a complete search of all apartments,
the building was deemed clear of all occupants.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire but not before
it had already caused significant fire damage to one
apartment and smoke damage to the remaining units.
At least two occupants were injured during the inci-
dent. Bill Johnson

Q. When did you join the CFPA and why? And what positions do you hold/or have held, with the club? After working with the members of the club for the past several years, I wanted to get more involved and joined in 2017. Q: What fire department(s) are you affiliated with, if any, and how? I have been a member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Company since 1985; joining as a firefighter, and in recent years moving into the executive office as Secretary. In 1991, I earned my Fire Marshal certification and joined the Easton Fire Marshal’s office as a fire investigator and presenting Fire Safety and Injury Prevention lessons. Q: What cities or towns do you primarily cover? At this point, the only town I cover is my own, Easton. At our fire scenes, my photography is all involved with the investigation. I attend a lot of our firefighter training, and that’s been my fire photography focus. Q: What kind of camera equipment do you use? I go back and forth between a Canon EOS Rebel t3i (my first DSLR) with Canon lenses, and a (new) Canon 6D Mark II. My favorite lenses - a Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 macro and a Sigma 24-70 1:2.8 DG Art Lens. Just learning the new 24-70, and I love it, but the 105 has been my go-to for several years. Q: Do you have a website, or where do you post your images? No website, but I post my photos on Instagram and Facebook. Q: Have your images been published? (Notable achievements, covers, etc.) I recently had a photo published in Fire Apparatus Journal (thanks Mark Redman!). No covers or notable photographic ac-complishments…yet. Q: In addition to fire ground photography, what else do you enjoy photographing? What are your other hobbies? Ah, here is my opportunity to talk about one of my passions. For a number of years now, I have roamed fields and woods and ponds photographing the wildlife, but mostly dragonflies. I do it the hard way, with the macro. It would be faster and easier with a good zoom, but I like the patience and quiet required to get close. Dragonflies are a lifelong interest, and I like the im-mediacy (is that a word?) of being inches from my subject Q: Your style, and what you look for on emergency scene? Your preference? Action, static etc.… My favorite fire scene photographs are candid shots of firefighters working. The portraits of firefighters standing in a doorway or walking out of a building with the exhaustion and the work all over their faces and posture are awesome. I have been work-ing on my apparatus photography.

Q: What was the first fire that you ever photographed?... Back in the 90s, a small farmhouse. It was a live fire training day in our Company. Some pretty spectacular flames. Q: What city do you like to buff the most Boston/New York, Buffalo, or Detroit? As you can tell, I don’t buff far from home.
