Pastor’s Message: WE DON’T GO ALONE

Jesus, the humble village car-penter, frequently attracted large crowds with his preach-ing. A moment of apparent triumph and glory came when these same people in Jerusa-lem acclaimed him as king, probably hoping he would be a new military leader and over-throw the occupying Romans. This “triumph” was brief, how-

ever. In a few days the same crowds turned on him. Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, didn’t know what to make of him. Jesus was obviously no common crimi-nal. He spoke truthfully and was not cowed in Pilate’s presence. Yet Pilate finally gave up and had Jesus put to death. Ever since that first Good Friday, those who pass through the darkest nights know they don’t go alone. For each of us Jesus obediently and willingly entered the pain and sorrow of humanity. He counted the milestones along the way of despair, and fell into the abyss of death. There are no dead-end streets any-more. For us, at the end of every road, there shines the light of Christ. NO VAMOS SOLOS Jesús, el humilde carpintero de la aldea, atraía frecuentemente grandes multitudes con su prédica. Hubo un aparente mo-mento de triunfo y gloria cuan-do estas multitudes lo aclama-ron como rey en Jerusalén, pro-bablemente esperando que él fuera un nuevo líder militar que depusiera la ocupación de los

romanos. Sin embargo, este “triunfo” fue breve. Unos pocos días más tarde esta misma gente se reviró con-tra él. Poncio Pilato, el procurador romano, se sentía confundido. Obviamente Jesús no era un criminal común. Hablaba con la verdad y no se acobardaba en presencia de Pilato. Sin embargo, Pilato finalmente se dio por vencido y condenó a muerte a Jesús. Gospel: Mark 15: 1-39 This Palm Sunday reading of the Passion of the Lord is taken from Mark's Gospel. It was the first written account of how Jesus suffered and died. It is also the shortest version of the Passion and is written almost like a newspaper story that presents "just the facts." The most important truth Mark wants to communicate is that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, whose suffering leads to glory. When Jesus cries out from the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1), he is praying in the words of the psalmist who continues to trust God even when all seems hopeless. As we read or listen to the Passion, we try to unite ourselves with Jesus and all those who suffer injustice in today's world. 1.) Why do you think people in crowds sometimes act in ways that they as individuals would never do? What insights into hu-man behavior does the Passion of Jesus give you? How will you show this week that you honor Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God?

Evangelio: Marco 15: 1-39 La lectura para este Domingo de Ramos está tomada del Evan-gelio de Marcos. Este fue el primer recuento escrito de cómo Jesús sufrió y murió. Washing of the Feet:

You are invited to have your feet washed at the Mass on Holy Thursday, which will be on April 2nd at 7:30pm. First, twelve people of different ages and nationalities will

have their feet washed by the priest. Then, others will be sitting in the center aisle of the assembly, and the initial twelve “apostles” will wash their feet. If you are interested in having your feet washed, please leave your name and telephone number at the Parish Office (415) 333-7630. A meeting will be scheduled.

For your Information: Epiphany Parish Debt Update:

What an inspiring verse! I want to take this opportunity to THANK all of you for the financial support you give the Church of the Epiphany in the weekly collections and also when we have re-quested additional support for parish needs and improvements. With regards to our Parish Debt, your consistent pledge payments have allowed the par-ish to almost meet our $1 million loan commitment to the Archdiocese, which started in 1999. To eliminate our debt, Epiphany conducted 3 Capital Cam-paigns, sold 3 parish properties, and has been operating on minimal needs budg-ets. It has been a slow, steady uphill climb, but while the summit is in sight, we still need to make the final loan payments totaling $7,000.00 to reach it. We are asking for your help in making these final payments by reviewing your commit-ment and seeing if you can complete and/or increase your pledge payments. For those who have completed your pledge, we THANK YOU and ask that you consider any additional contributions you can give. Quiero agradecer a todas las personas que nos ayudan con sus donaciones por medio de las colectas semanales, asi como cuando les hemos pedido ayuda con las necesidades y mejoras de nuestra iglesia. Gracias a su colabo-ración, el préstamo de la Arquidiócesis de 1999 de mas de un millón de dólares se ha venido reduciendo. con sus contribuciones y promesas, asi como por medio de las tres campañas para recaudar fondos, la venta de tres propiedades, y la reducción de los costos administrativos al mínimo. Ha sido una campaña muy larga, pero ya estamos por llegar a completer nuestro objetivo. ¡Solo nos faltan $7,000.00! Les pedimos que por favor nos ayuden una vez mas, extendiendo, aumentando el monto, o renovando sus promesas, o donando con lo que puedan para saldar esta deuda. ¡Gracias por ayudarnos en este año y que Dios los bendiga! Horario de Semana Santa: La oficina parroquial no atenderá al público desde el medio día del Jueves Santo, 2 de abril, hasta el lunes 6 de abril cuando reabrirá sus puertas a la hora de costumbre.
