Can’t Go to Confession? Pope Says Talk to God Your Father & Ask Forgiveness I know that many of you go to Confession for Easter to meet with God again. How-ever, many will say to me to-day: “But, Father, where can I find a priest, a confessor, because one can’t leave home? And I want to make peace with the Lord, I want Him to embrace me, that my Papa embrace me . . . What can I do if I can’t find priests?” Do what the Catechism says; it’s very clear: if you don’t find a priest to hear your Confession, talk with God, He is your Father, and tell Him the truth, “Lord, I’ve done this, and that, and that . . . I’m sorry,” and ask Him for forgiveness with all your heart, with the Act of Contri on and promise Him: “A erwards I will go to Confession, but forgive me now.” And you will return to God’s grace immediately. As the Catechism teaches, you yourself can approach God’s forgiveness without having a priest at hand. Think: it’s the moment! And this is the right moment, the opportune moment. And Act of Contri on well made, and so our soul will become white as snow. It would be good if today this “return” re-sounded in our ears, “return to your Papa, return to your Father.” He is wai ng for you and He will celebrate you.

2 SERVEDear Fellow St. Norbert Parishioners, Be assured of my thoughts and prayers for each of you during this global emergency. It was extremely difficult this past weekend not being able to celebrate the Mass together publicly with you. Hearing the church bells invi ng the community to gather for Mass and no one coming – surreal.

Currently, all Catholics in the Diocese of Orange are dispensed from the obliga on of a ending Mass. A decision on when Masses will resume will be made in coordina on with state and local public authori es. Bishop Vann announced that star ng Tuesday March 17, all daily and Sunday in-person Masses in the Diocese of Orange are temporarily cancelled. All mee ngs and ac vi es on the parish campus are also cancelled temporarily.

The COVID19 virus is real and is spreading publicly. I encourage you to please follow the recommenda ons of the CDC and public health authori es and stay home.

What can we expect in the weeks to come? Bap sms—No bap sms except in the case of an emergency. Weddings—All pending weddings are being rescheduled. Funerals—The number permi ed to a end is 10. If possible, funerals should be

postponed. I am so sad to inform you that the Sacred Triduum and Easter liturgies will not be public celebra ons this year. That being said, those currently in the Rite of Chris an Ini a on will not be receiving Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. I will let you know if some other op on may be allowed in the upcoming months.

Now what about First Communions and Confirma ons? I doubt they will happen as currently scheduled. As the next weeks unfold, I will let you know.

Although “public” in-person Masses are cancelled temporarily in the Diocese of Orange, I will con nue to say a daily Mass in the chapel in the rectory every morning at 10 AM. On the weekends, I will celebrate Mass at 5 PM on Saturday and at 10:30 AM and 2 PM in Spanish on Sunday. All these Masses will be live-streamed on our Facebook page and then uploaded to our new YouTube channel. Please visit stnorbertchurch.org to see how to connect.

During this me of social distancing and staying at home, I encourage you to create a sacred space in your home. Create a home altar. This would be a good ac vity to do as a family. Make a sacred space in your home where you can pray together, for we are the church!

I encourage you to con nue living out the tenets of our Lenten journey of prayer, fas ng and almsgiving. This year it seems we are being called to extend these prac ces for maybe weeks or even months. In these mes we are called not to lose hope, but to see Christ, the light through the darkness.

Let us pray. Pray for the healing of our world and for everyone to serve the common good, regardless of who we are. Pray for our first responders, nurses, doctors, teachers, supermarket workers, pharmacists, trash collectors and sanita on workers. Let us pray for all those who are selflessly giving of themselves in these mes.

Let us fast. We are now fas ng from many things we did not believe we would be fas ng from. Have your priori es or what you see as important shi ed in these past few days? I am sure they have. Mine definitely have been refocused on to Faith, Family and Friends. Let us all check in on these in the days and weeks to come.

I recognize that the closure of many businesses and loss of employment caused by this Coronavirus outbreak and quaran nes presents a significant financial hardship for many in our parish community. This reality is also affec ng our faith community. Our Sunday offerings on the weekend of March 14-15 were half of our usual Sunday

Fish Fry Cancelled Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and recommendations from the governor of California, St. Norbert Catholic School has cancelled remaining Fish Fry events.

We thank all of the St. Norbert parishioners who pre-purchased meal tickets for Fish Fry in support of our junior high students’ Washington D.C. trips. We are working on an equitable solution and will communicate details in an upcoming parish bulletin.

Queridos Feligreses de San Norberto,

Tengan la seguridad de que mis pensamientos y oraciones están con cada uno de ustedes durante esta emergencia global. Fue sumamente di cil el pasado fin de semana no poder celebrar la misa juntos públicamente con ustedes. Al escuchar las campanas de la iglesia invitando a la comunidad a reunirse para la misa y que nadie pudiera estar presente – fue algo surrealista.

Actualmente, todos los católicos en la Diócesis de Orange están exentos de la obligación de asis r a misa. La decisión sobre cuándo se reanudarán las misas se tomará en coordinación con las autoridades públicas estatales y locales. El Obispo Vann anunció que a par r del martes 17 de marzo, todas las Misas en persona diarias y dominicales en la Diócesis de Orange fueron canceladas temporalmente. Asimismo, todas las reuniones y ac vidades en las instalaciones de la parroquia fueron canceladas temporalmente.

El COVID19 es real y se está propagando públicamente. Les exhorto a que sigan las recomendaciones de los Centros para el Control de Enfermedades (CDC) y las autoridades de salud pública y se queden en casa.

¿Qué podemos esperar en las próximas semanas?

Bau zos—No habrá bau zos, a excepción en caso de emergencia. Bodas—Todas las bodas pendientes se están reprogramando. Funerales—El número permi do para asis r es de diez personas. Si es posible

que los ritos finales puedan esperar, es recomendado.

Me entristece informarles que el Sagrado Triduo y la Pascua no serán celebraciones litúrgicas públicas este año. Dicho esto, los que están actualmente en el Rito de Iniciación Cris ana no recibirán los sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual. Les haré saber si se puede permi r alguna otra opción en los próximos meses.

¿Y qué hay de las primeras comuniones y confirmaciones? Dudo que sucedan según lo programado actualmente. Conforme transcurran las próximas semanas, se los haré saber.

Aunque las Misas en persona “públicas” han sido canceladas temporalmente en la Diócesis de Orange, con nuaré celebrando una Misa diaria en la capilla en la rectoría todas las mañanas a las 10 am. Los fines de semana, celebraré misa a las 5 PM el sábado y a las 10:30 AM, en inglés, y 2:00 PM en español. Durante este empo de distanciamiento social y de quedarse en casa, les animo a que creen un espacio sagrado en sus hogares. Hagan un altar casero. Esta sería una buena ac vidad para hacer en familia. Hagan un espacio sagrado en sus hogares donde puedan orar juntos, ¡porque somos la iglesia!

Les animo a que sigan viviendo esta jornada cuaresmal de oración, ayuno y limosna. Este año parece que estamos siendo llamados a extender estas prác cas por quizá semanas o incluso meses. En estos empos estamos llamados a no perder la esperanza, sino a ver a Cristo, la luz a través de la oscuridad.

Oremos. Oremos por la sanación de nuestro mundo y para que todos sirvamos al bien común, independientemente de quiénes somos. Oremos por nuestros socorristas, enfermeras, médicos, maestros, trabajadores de supermercados, farmacéu cos, recolectores de basura y trabajadores sanitarios. Oremos por todos aquellos que se entregan desinteresadamente en estos empos.

Ayunemos. Ahora estamos ayunando de muchas cosas de las que no creíamos que estaríamos ayunando. ¿Han cambiado sus prioridades o lo que ven como importante

en estos úl mos días? Estoy seguro que sí. Las mías defini vamente se han reenfocado en la Fe, Familia y Amigos. Analicemos todo esto en estos días y semanas venideras.

Reconozco que el cierre de muchos negocios y la pérdida de empleo causada por este brote de coronavirus y cuarentena presentan una dificultad económica significa va para muchos en nuestra comunidad parroquial. Esta realidad también está afectando a nuestra comunidad de fe. Nuestras ofrendas dominicales del fin de semana del 14 y 15 de marzo fueron la mitad de nuestra ofrenda dominical habitual. El fin de semana pasado nuestra ofrenda dominical fue de $ 5,900.00. Estos son empos di ciles que atravesaremos juntos.

Sé que no sabemos cuándo terminará esta crisis actual, pero, si es posible, les pido que con núen apoyando económicamente a nuestra parroquia (preferiblemente en línea o por correo), tanto como puedan. ¡Vamos a superar esto! ¡Sigamos trabajando juntos y manteniendo la fe!

Prayer in the Time of the Coronavirus Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our na on and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protec on of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
