The voices of our choir members united perfectly to lift up the spirit of everyone in that church, offering hope and thanksgiving in a way that made the resurrection the central focus of our celebration. A funeral Mass is a celebration of gratitude and a moment of profound hope for all who gather, and the ministry of our vocalists and musicians at funerals reflects that spirit in a way that con-nects everyone to the risen Christ. the Church. Visit providencediocese.thankyou4caring.org or return your pledge cards to the collection basket. This spring, I am looking forward to introducing two new ministries that will serve the needs of the parish. First, at the recommendation of the Diocese of Provi-dence, we will begin a safety and security team comprised of parishioners who are (or were) members of state po-lice, local police, veterans, and professional security per-sonnel. Rhode Island State Police Captain Derek Borek will be training our team members later this month. I would ask police officers, veterans, and security guards to consider serving in this ministry. If you are able to help, please speak to me, or send an e-mail to [email protected].

The ministry of sacristan will also be introduced after Easter. This ministry is one of the standards throughout the entire worldwide Catholic Church. It is described in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal in the same section that calls for collectors, hospitality ministers, can-tors, choir directors, lectors, and altar servers. The in-struction calls for those in the ministry of sacristan to make the necessary arrangements and preparations for each Mass. Sacristans will assume most of the duties that now belong to the captains of the Eucharistic ministry teams. This will ease the burden on captains, allowing them to focus on the responsibilities of their ministry without added distractions and responsibilities. The min-istry is open to parishioners who have received the sacra-ments of initiation. If you are interested in learning more about serving as a sacristan, please speak to me or to Jen Marran. Training will take place in April. ✯✆✄ ✦✰✒✆✝✠ ✱✡✏✩ ✙☎✟✝✡☛ ✒☎✥ ✚✟ ☎✝✝✝ ✂✆ ✂✒

❇ Bishop Adolfo Zon Pereiras of Alto Solimões, Brazil, in response to questions about the severe shortage of Roman Catholic priests in Brazil.

❇ Zon Pereiras and other local bishops are pres-suring the Vatican to allow married men to serve as priests.

❇ Pope Francis is allowing bishops in the Amazon region to discuss the idea of married priests to serve in remote areas, which would be an excep-tion to the priestly discipline of mandatory celi-bacy in the Latin Rite Church.

❇ In Brazil, there is currently one priest for every 7,000-10,000 Catholics, while Evangelical Protes-tant preachers outnumber priests 2 to 1. In the last 2 years, 9 million Roman Catholics have left the Church to join other Christian religions ❈ in many cases, there were no Catholic priests to serve their congregations and minister to their needs.

I was humbled when I met with Fr. Jared in the winter of 2015 when he listened to me and my struggles through divorce and through my battles of alcoholism. He felt my pain, saw my weakness and heard my cries for help. It was when he offered to anoint me that I truly began to see what my life was missing. All these years, I was nearly 40 years old and I was just coming to know who I truly was. I began to surrender myself. I stopped trying to con-trol everything. I was trying to let go and allow him to lead me. On November 11, 2017, I experienced a true personal tragedy. As I found myself with nearly zero personal possessions, I realized what was truly important to me. What truly matters. I was able to hold my two beautiful daughters in my arms, I had family and a community around me supporting me, I had strangers calling me and offering to help with anything they could. I had many people drop off clothes, food, blankets and other items for my girls and me to be as comfortable as we could in this time. How many steps does it take to cover 2 miles? The average person takes about 2300 steps to cover a mile. So it would take double that amount, or 4600 steps, to walk 2 miles. Each mile a person walks burns roughly 100 calories, so on your Journey to Jerusalem you would be burning an extra 200 calories daily. ✻ If you wear a pedometer to track daily steps, or use your Fitbit tracker, or even the health app on your cell phone, that is a good way to check your progress daily. ✻ Accumulating 2 extra miles a day might also be doable by making some small changes like parking further from ✍✑✆ ✏✍☛✒✆ ✠☛✕✌✒✆ ✚✄✏✄✍✄✟✜✁ ✍✞☎✄✟✜ ✍✑✆ ✏✍✞✄✒✏ ✄✟✏✍✆✞☞ ☛✓ ✍✑✆

elevator, or pacing while you talk on the phone. ✻ If you choose to do the 2 miles in one period of time, you could do so in roughly 30 minutes a day. Many peo-ple can cover 1 mile in approx. 15 minutes, and if you are like me, and work at home, it takes 4 minutes of walking around the house to cover ¼ mile, so 8 x 4 minutes and voila, you have 2 miles !

Watch this space in the coming weeks for more helpful info to keep you motivated on the journey, and watch the website and check out the tables neat the exits to the church for a progress map and to pick up a Trip Tik guide and a purple bracelet to keep you motivated on your personal Journey to Jerusalem.
