Entrance Hymn Come let us bow down to Christ, As we worship Him, The Son of God. Save us, O Son of God, Who did rise from the dead, We sing to You: Alleluia

Resurrectional Apolytikion (Tone Four)

The joyful news of Your Resurrection was proclaimed By the angel to the women disciples, Having thrown off the curse that fell on Adam, They ran elatedly to tell the Apostles: Death has been vanquished; Christ our God is risen from the dead, Blessing all the world with His great mercy.

Festal Apolytikion (Triumph of the Icons) Before Your most pure Image, we bow down, O Good One, Entreating You to forgive ours sins, Christ our God, For You willingly ascended the Cross in the flesh To deliver from the enemy those whom You had made. For this we thank You and we cry to You, O Savior: By coming to save the world You have filled all things with joy.

Church Hymn (Troparion of Pentecost) Blessed are You O Christ our God Who has shown the fishermen as wise men By sending down Your Holy Spirit upon them And through them, the whole world You drew into Your net O Lover of mankind, glory to You. Evlogitos i Hriste O Theos imon, O Pansofous tous aliis anadixas, Katapempsas aftis to Pnevma to agion, Ke thi afton tin ikoumenin saginefsas, Filanthrope doxa Si.

Kontakion (Ti ipermaho) O Champion General, I, your city, now inscribe to you Triumphant anthems as a token of my gratitude Being rescued from the terrors, O Theotokos Inasmuch as you have the power unassailable From all kinds of perils free me so that unto you, I may cry aloud rejoice O unwedded bride. Ti ipermaho stratigo ta nikitiria Os litrothisa ton dinon efharistiria, Anagrafo si i polis sou Theotoke. Alos ehousa to kratos aprosmahiton, Ek pandion me kindinon eleftheroson, Ina krazo si, Here, Nimfi a nimfefte

After the Prayer of the Proskomidi I love you, O Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my Savior.

PRAYER FOR SUNDAY OF ORTHODOXY

As the Prophets beheld; as the Apostles taught; as the Church received; as the Teachers dogmatized; as the Universe has agreed; as Grace has shone forth; as Truth has been proven; as falsehood has been disproven; as Wisdom has been presented; as Christ has rewarded.

This is what we believe; this is what we declare; this is what we preach, Christ our true God, and we honor His Saints in words, in thought, in sacrifices, in Churches and in icons. Christ, we worship as God and Master, and His Saints we honor as true servants of our same Lord, and accordingly we grant them veneration.

This is the Faith of the Apostles!

This is the Faith of the Fathers!

This is the Faith of the Orthodox!

This is the Faith which has established the Universe!

Therefore, with brotherly and filial love, we praise these preachers of piety, for the glory and honor of their own pious struggle for the Faith, and we say:

“Eternal be the memory of the defenders of Orthodoxy; pious Sovereigns, holy Patriarchs, Hierarchs, Teachers, Martyrs, and Confessors.”

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3)

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, be gracious unto our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your Name's sake.

Lord have mercy. (3)

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Psalm 123 (N KJV)

2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those who are at ease, With the contempt of the proud.

Prayer

Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger; do not chastise me in Your wrath; but deal with me according to Your loving kindness, as Healer and physician of my soul. Guide me to the harbor of Your will; enlighten the eyes of my heart that I may know Your truth; and grant that the rest of this day may be peaceful and without sin, as may my whole life, through the prayers of the Theotokos and of all the saints.

For Yours is the dominion, and Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer of Ephraim

Lord and Master of my life! Take from me the spirit of sloth, faint-heartedness, lust of power, and idle talk. But give, rather, the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Your servant.

Yes, Lord and King!

Grant me to see my own errors and not to judge my brother, for You are blessed unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The Small Church of the Home

When St. Paul sent greetings to the families of faithful Christian parents, he called them ‘the

Church of their household’. St. John Chrysostom also referred to the Christian family as ‘the

Small Church’.

This Christian understanding of the family as the Small Church has unfortunately fallen out of our

understanding in 21st century America. Nevertheless, sociological research has reminded us of the

importance of recovering this ancient Christian teaching. Out of every 10 young adults who leave

home, only 4 will continue to attend Church. That means the major ity, 60% , will fall away

from the Church! When researchers looked into the difference between the 40% who remain

active and the 60% who lapse, they found a distinct difference between these two populations.

It was NOT simply weekly Church attendance – both groups had this, and weekly Church

attendance was a minimum requirement

It was NOT an active youth group – both groups had this

The unique attribute of the 40% who remained active in their Church was DAILY PRAYER

AND DISCUSSION OF THE FAITH AT HOME WITH THEIR PARENTS

This data simply wakes us up to the fact that, if we want our children to continue to practice the

Christian Faith, and to make it their own, we must pray with them daily (this is in addition to

dinner prayers), and discuss the Christian faith with them daily.

So just what does the family as the Small Church look like?

Husband and Wife pray together with their children every day

Father and Mother teach the Christian faith to their children

Family members encourage one another to live according to the

teachings of the Church

Father and Mother give selflessly, for the sake of one another and of

their children; the children respect and follow their parents’ example

The family serves others in their community, because of their love for Christ

We are taught in the Scriptures that God has given parents to children to be their teachers—in fact,

the Hebrew word for ‘parent’ comes directly from the word ‘teacher’. Even if we have not

previously lived up to this expectation, the best time to start is today.

Holy Trinity will begin providing resources to help our families become the Small Churches they

are called to be. We can begin now, simply by praying together with our children at the same time

every day, reading the daily Scripture Readings (found on Holy Trinity’s website under ‘Saints,

Feasts, and Readings’ for the current day) and praying the Lenten Meditation that is found in the

Koinonia. Giving our children a living Christian Faith that they make their own—which

they in turn pass on to their children—requires hard work, but it is the greatest gift we

could ever give them.
