RYDE Tigers on the prowl for the big bash Robbie Patterson WHAT’S ON On Saturday: The free showing of The Smurfs Movie at Yamble reserve, Quarry Rd, Ryde, from about 8pm. On Sunday: The Mayor’s Big Bash Charity cricket match will be a star-studded event at Ryde Park, Princes St, from 9am to 2pm. Benji Marshall celebrates his match-winning drop goal. A MAJOR negative could turn into a positive for northern district residents after the last-minute cancel- lation of Ryde Council’s charity weekend, due to poor weather — with the chances of a Wests Tiger sighting on the rise. Bec Ho, the playground project manager for the Touched by Olivia Foundation, said the events are scheduled for next weekend. And the fundraiser to build an all abilities play- ground called Livvy’s Place at Yamble Reserve could now be bigger and better. ‘‘We might have more players,’’ Ms Ho said of the rescheduled Mayor’s Big Bash cricket game, in which the Mayor’s XI will take on a team from the Ryde Hunters Hill Pirates club. She is hopeful Wests Tigers NRL players will now be avail- able to participate. The Tigers played Cronulla Sharks last Sunday, which the Tigers won with an amazing drop goal by Benji Marshall. ‘‘They couldn’t come last weekend, but they might be able to make it this week,’’ Ms Ho said. ‘‘We are very hopeful.’’ EASTWOOD Bring balance and harmony to your home JINGWEN SUN Jane Langof. FENG shui master Jane Langof, from Hunters Hill, says that feng shui is not about superstition or placing tacky objects around the home to bring good luck. Instead, it is the application of statistics and observations gathered through thousands of years. Ms Langof, who studied for five years before setting up her Feng Shui Concepts busi- ness, said the practice con- cerned the relationship with your home and environment and how energy in your sur- roundings can affect your mind, body and spirit. ‘‘Feng shui is used to bring balance and create more har- mony and engagement within a home,’’ she said. ‘‘We believe that your home is a reflection of your life and you can make positive improve- ments by changing your sur- roundings.’’ Ms Langof says feng shui is usually used when doing reno- vations, designing a new home or choosing a property. clients also ask for advice to improve the energy in their business premises. Ms Langof will give a lecture at Eastwood Library next Wednesday at 10.30am. ‘‘Feng shui is important be- cause each home has a unique map of energy that influences the health, wealth and re- lationships of people living there,’’ she said. The free seminar will be held at Eastwood Library, corner Hillview Rd and West Pde, Eastwood. For bookings and information phone 9952 8375.
