MAKING A BIG SCORE IN THE MOVIES March 5 - 8 >> Aero Theatre The heist genre has given us some of the most compelling, kinetic movies ever made. John Huston perfected the form with THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, and a young Stanley Kubrick rein- vented it six years later with THE KILLING. Ever since, expert directors from Don Siegel to Quentin Tarantino have turned to the field. The Cinematheque will present several landmarks of the genre, as well as a sneak preview of THE BANK JOB, with director Roger Donaldson in-person. Series compiled by Grant Moninger and Gwen Deglise. By the early 1940s, young Bava was photographing films for Pabst and Rossellini, but was nearly 50-years old before he directed his first full feature, BLACK SUNDAY. Since the Cinematheque's first Bava retrospective in 1993 and follow- up in 2002, the director's films have undergone a continual rediscovery. As a result, there are now 35mm prints available of many of Bava's films (thanks to producer Alfredo Leone & Timothy C. Bratt) - including KILL, BABY, KILL, A BAY OF BLOOD, FIVE DOLLS FOR AN AUGUST MOON, the Euro ver- sions of BLACK SUNDAY and BLACK SABBATH and Bava's legendary lost KIDNAPPED (aka RABID DOGS)!
