Rev. Felix Ortiz-Cotto writes, Peace of God be with

you all! Greetings on behalf of Global Ministries,Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United

Church of Christ!I would like to welcome APECA as the new companion

in mission of Global Ministries. The visit to el Fundolast November was the last of the steps be able to dothis affirmation.APECA is a registered non-profit organization in Peru

and in the USA. The mission statement, written in 1993

stands today as we initiate work with the numerousopportunities brought to APECA through cooperative

    agreement with Global Ministries.

During Felix Ortizs visit, we returned to the beach

where an APECA trained Promotor de Salud and his

family were tending a peanut field they had planted inthe silt and sand of the receded waters. This experience

helped Pablo explain the conditions and demonstrate

the level of hardship that is addressed by APECAs

sustainable development programs. Felix could share

in the experience with the family and later commented,It is so obvious that APECA is a valuable presence in

these communities. Global Ministries wants to be able

to work with you on these programs, as a com-

    panion to the villagers.

Words cannot express the joy filled anticipation thathas come over Pablo and the APECA village volun-

teers. They have worked so hard, for some, over 20

years, with the hope that one day, they would be em-

powered to advance in their efforts addressing health

    and conservation.

The agreement, signed in November 2013, with

APAFA (PTA) in Santa Anna II Zona and APECA,initiated a project in their community to create a tree

nursery for all the school children and their families.

With the Parent Teachers Association and the familiesworking together, the success of reforestation in this

    community is far more secure.

It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to

    work with Global Ministries UCC/DOC.

Volunteers are welcome to join in many different pro-

jects, both in the USA and Peru. For additional infor-

mation or applications for participation in field pro-
