:

The coronavirus crisis continues…

As the county and surrounding communities has opened some businesses and waiting for the final phases to open the rest, I would like to share with you some thoughts.

Welcome to the new norm!! I don’t say this lightly. But social distancing and wearing masks, is here. And short of a vaccine and a reliable treatment, it is not going to go away any time soon..

I feel guilty in that I’m not working in the Emergency Department at this time. I am helping to answer the Covid Hotline. I’m now getting a different perspective. I spoke to a woman today that her daughter was tested pre-procedure. She was not having any symptoms, but her test came back positive. The woman I was talking to was in tears and scared that her and her husband would now get sick, just from being around someone that they loved. In her words “I let my guard down.”

Please - continue to protect yourself and the ones you love, wear a mask when out, don’t wear gloves, wash your hands, and practice social distancing. I deleted and added to

the next page of info I shared the last couple of months. Please read through it again. Know what to do if you get sick. .

Proud to be - Joan Horton, RN

:

If you feel like you have been exposed to the Coronavirus COVID 19 - but are feeling OK -

DON’T GO TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Call you primary care doctor, or the health department - but

DON’T CALL OR GO TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

If you feel like you have been exposed to the Coronavirus COVID 19 and/or you are sick with fever,

cough or shortness of breath

- CALL THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT FIRST -

to let them know of your symptoms and your arrival. Depending on where you go, you will be instructed

on what to do next.

The only way to slow the spread of this disease is containment.

Please!!! If you want to help -

WEAR A MASK,

Over your mouth and nose,

WASH YOUR HANDS and

STAY HOME!!! when you can.

And PRAY - that we all get through this.

Proud to be - Joan Horton, RN

Gudrun Erla, the designer and owner of GE Designs was born

and raised in Iceland. She started quilting at the age of 23. After

owning and running quilt shops in her home country and designing patterns along side it, quilting

brought her to Minnesota in 2003. Since then Gudrun has been designing full time, publishing

patterns and books from her home office in Chaska, MN. Gudrun loves to take traditional ideas and

put a little bit of a modern spin on them. Her “quilt as you go,” as well as patterns for precuts have

been very popular with easy to follow instructions and quick assembly and finishing. All her patterns

are geared toward today’s quilt makers, easy and innovative with a modern touch. She has published

patterns and books on strip quilts for years and designed the best selling Stripology rulers with

Creative Grids.

Gudrun has written 21 books, along with her self published books. She has written for Martingale,

C & T, Kansas City Star and Leisure Arts. Her patterns have been published in all the major

magazines such as American Patchwork and Quilting, Quiltmaker, Fons &

Porter’s Love of Quilting and Quilty. She has taped educational classes

with both Craftsy and Craft University. Gundrun travels to teach and

lecture both nationally and internationally year round and escorts quilting

tours to Iceland and other destinations. For additional information check

out Gudrun’s website at gequiltdesigns.com or her Instagram at

#gedesignsgudrun.

Have you walked by the Showcase plexiglass at the previous KCRQF's and dreamed of creating

a quilt to display in that plexiglass of your own?

We hope you will consider it for next year's Festival.

To begin the process, please go to the Festival's website at: www.kcrqf.com and under the "About Us" tab at the top of the website, click on the "Showcase Challenge" link.

The Showcase Challenge web page provides the Theme/Style for the challenge and Who May Enter.

For all of the Showcase Challenge Requirements and an Entry Form, click on the link at the bottom of the page and request that they be emailed to you. That way we can keep track of who may be considering entering a Showcase Challenge quilt for further communications.

Joyce and Judy, Charity co-chairs, have the following guidelines for the guild in preparing the quilts for donation. 1. Please finish the kits you have, if possible. The fewer hand-offs, the better. 2. When a quilt is finished, please wash it. Dry thoroughly, then put into a plastic bag. 3. Write the dimensions on the bag, and if it’s suitable for a child. Hold that quilt until a call for finished quilts appears on the Guild Facebook page and/or the newsletter. Hang on to Avenue of Life quilts until we have enough and a plan for delivering them. Hospice House appreciates it if our donations have been washed before donating. They have been shorthanded, and the above procedures will help them greatly. The hospitals will run donations through a machine to sanitize them, but wash quilts anyway. Moon pillows are always needed. Let Joyce know if you need fabric or fiberfill from the storeroom. Joyce still has the rolls of batting at her house and will cut what you need. Meet up, porch pick-up or delivery, just call or text. 724-971-2837. If you’ve run out of stash fabric (seriously!?) and needing fabric for masks, there’s lots in the storeroom. Call me. Blue Valley members, you are the makers of tangible hugs! Keep up the great work! Thanks, Joyce Bardeen and Judy Lindberg

While we may not be meeting in our regular manner, your

donations to SAFEHOME are hard at work.

Just prior to the ‘virus shutdown of our world’ the requested mini

fridge and microwave were purchased and delivered to the

Safehome kitchen! The report from the kitchen chef – ‘the fridge

has been a lifesaver.’

This week we will ‘mask up’ to meet the new Volunteer

Coordinator in the parking lot to hand over the Cuisinart

purchased in February along with an Immersion Blender donated

by Cynthia Coleman. Cynthia also gave us towels to deliver

which she had pre-purchased as the April donation item.

When we get back to our regular BVQG meeting days we will plan

to list bath towels and washcloths again as the month’s donation

item. There may be others who purchased towels like Cynthia

did in preparation for the April, 2020 meeting!

Accept our thanks again for your generous monetary gifts which

allowed us to purchase the big kitchen items. We still have $250

which we’ll use as soon as we feel more ‘comfy’ about shopping!

They again have an urgent need for pillows and towels.

In the meantime: stay smart . . . stay healthy . . . keep quilting!

2020 Quilt Challenge

Are you a new quilter and are looking to tackle different blocks? Are you an experienced quilter with a variety of orphan blocks? Have you started a Block of the Month with a quilt shop or online but haven’t gotten around to finish your quilt? Perhaps you’ve been in a bee exchange or have an unfinished row by row gathering dust? Then this year’s challenge is for you: Sampler Quilt. To qualify, your quilt will need at least six distinct blocks and can’t have been shown as a finished project at a BVQG meeting or show. You have all year to make your quilt as it is due at the December meeting. Membership will vote, and prizes will be awarded to the top three quilts, plus a special drawing for all participants. Your finished quilt can be traditional, modern or art…there is no limit to your creativity. If you have any questions, catch me at a meeting and keep an eye on our Facebook page for inspiration. — Stephanie Dodson
