As we approach the month of April, the 2012-2013 term is coming to an end and I will eventually have to retire. Thank you for allowing me to serve you, as it has been such a pleasure to meet the most dedicated and passionate people I know. Our awards that we won at DCON truly represent our successful year, and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of Key Club this year! I am keeping this short so please support me at my last meeting on APRIL 23, where I will be giving my farewell speech! Much love. Jessica Yu 2012-2013 President Hey Key Clubbers!! Can you believe it is already April?? School is almost over!!! Many amazing things happened during the month of March, we had our annual District Convention held in Anaheim, California. It is such an amazing experience that I hope all of you get the chance to attend. It is an unforgettable experience that lets you meet so many people, and you get to experience Key Club at its finest. The spirit, the fun, the service. That is District Convention. I am officially retired as your Vice President and it was an honor to be able to serve all of you during the term of 2012-2013. I am positive that the new officers, Vivian Wong, Kimberly Cao, Stephanie Tran, Melody Valdez, and Alayna Nguyen will do absolutely amazing, and i wish them luck next year. Seniors: Congratulations! You are less than two months away from graduation! I hope you take what you have learned from Key Club and high school and continue to serve your community in college! Circle K is always an option! Circle K also has an amazing District Convention so don't miss out on that either! Juniors: Are you ready to be thrown into the crazy world of college apps? I know i'm not! But we'll get through it together! Let's finish high school strong. Sophomores: Get ready to be thrown into one of the hardest years of high school. its going to be hard and not easy, but in the end it is worth it! I know all of you are ready for it! Freshman: You are just starting your high school life, you have a tough road in front of you, but never forget your friends and family are always there to support you! Good Luck! Hi, Key Clubbers! As we approach the month of April, the 2012-2013 term is coming to an end and I will eventually have to retire. It’s that time you’ve all been waiting for!

Board applications for the 2013-2014 term

will be available on April 9th, the first

general meeting when we return from

spring break. The following positions will

be available for ANYONE to apply:

Project Director (4), Class Director (2 per

class), Socialist (2), Historian (2), Kiwanis

Family Chair (1), and Spirit Chair (1).

Interviews will then be conducted by

your 2013-2014 Executive Officers later in

the month. More information will be

announced at the general meeting.

We hope you all start thinking about

applying for board! It is definitely a great

opportunity to take part in the behind-

the-scenes of Key Club, developing in

leadership and making new friends along

the way.

Salvation Army Drive

Where: Independence High School!

What: Bring clothes, furniture, tv's, mattresses, and

any "E" waste to school to benefit the local Salvation

Army Adult Recovery Center. (Center has 100+ beds

and the beneficiaries are housed 24-7 for a period of

6 months.)

When: Drive will last until the end of April!

*hours will be given based on what you bring, so talk

to Jessica!

2012-2013 IHS Key Club Board

All of us wanted to take a step further in our Key Club journey, bee-yond being a general member, and apply for a board/executive position, a

decision that definitely pays off. Now it’s YOUR TURN do the same.

3rd Annual Photo Contest

Take a picture of what inspires YOU in District 4:

Alviso, Berryessa, North San Jose

6 winners in the 9th-12th grade category

1st place: $300 scholarship

2nd place: $200 scholarship

3rd place: $100 scholarship

LTG Banquet/Charity Dinner On March 16th, Division 12E Superheroes flew to Rancho Middle School

to celebrate the accomplishments of our lovely LTG, Vanessa Yeh, and

to eat delicious food at the combined banquet & dinner, in which all

proceeds went towards PTP! We saw many great performances and

had a blast of fun! Division awards were given out, and Independence

High School was announced as “Club of the Year!” Great job, Sixers!

District Convention (DCON) On March 22-24, Key Clubbers from all over California, Nevada,

and Hawaii gathered in Anaheim to elect the 2013-2014 district

officers, learn more about Key Club, gain leadership skills, make

new friends, and most importantly, have a great time!

Independence was given a LOT of awards, including distinguished

club – diamond level. We couldn’t have done it without YOUR

passion and dedication to service, so thank you all!

IHS Championships

When: Saturday, April 6

Shift 1: (9am-1pm) Michelle

Shift 2: (1pm-5pm) Michelle

Shift 3: (5pm-9pm) Vivian

Shift 4: (9pm-11pm) Vivian

Where: IHS Big Gym

What: Set up, score runners, judge runners, sell

food, stamp people, and open doors.

*15 volunteers per shift

Color Run

When: Saturday, May 18

Time: 9am-?

Where: Guadalupe Park Arena Green

San Jose, CA 95113

What: Work at the “color stations” where

volunteers throw colored powder at the runners.

**MUST BE AT LEAST 15 years old

*** For each volunteer, $40 goes to the American

Diabetes Association ***

Child Advocates Fundraiser

When: Sunday, April 28

Time: 10am-3pm

What: Setting up the ballroom for the fundraiser

Great American Litter Pick Up

When: Saturday, April 20, 2013

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 am

Where: Independence High School - Educational

Park Library

What: Pick up litter in designated areas and drop

off bags at designated spots.

*Clean-up supplies will be provided for volunteers

*Unlimited volunteers

*SPECIAL INCENTIVE FOR ATTENDING THIS

EVENT!!!

Be the Match Walk & Run

When: Saturday, April 6

Time: 5:30am - 12pm

Where: Guadalupe Gardens @ Guadalupe River

What: Helping out at the water stations or

registration.

MUST BE AT LEAST 16 years old

***FREE T-SHIRT PROVIDED***
