The senior girls have finished up their regular season of play and are gearing up for what will hopefully be a successful playoff run
with a Provincial spot as the ultimate goal. It’s been a long and busy season for the girls, as they attended tournaments in Carberry,
Glenboro, Elm Creek, Neepawa, and Dauphin.
The pre-christmas tournaments in Carberry and Glenboro were a great way to start off the season, as the team got to see some very
strong opponents as well as put into game action what they had been working on in practice. They went into the Christmas break
with a 3-4 record, with one of those losses coming against the #1 ranked Ross L. Gray Raiders.
The Elm Creek tournament in January is always an important marker in the senior season, and this year was no exception. The girls
lost a tough first game to #3 ranked Rosenort, but rebounded well in the second game and beat the #6 ranked Pinawa Panthers. This
win combined with the strong play at the Neepawa and Dauphin tournaments helped the girls become the #6 ranked A basketball
team in the Province. After a tough loss to Gilbert Plains in the zone final, the girls ended the season with an overall record of 7-12.
While the group is proud of what they have achieved, they know there’s till more potential to tap into and are looking to continue to
improve.
At the beginning of the season the group set a team goal of making Provincials, and on March 7th they will have the opportunity to
play for that chance. A win in either their first or second game would earn the girls that spot, and they would be off to Fisher River for
the championships March 20th-22nd.
The team would also like to thank the community for their continued support through the perogy and cash calendar fundraiser. Your
contribution to our program has afforded us the opportunity to attend these tournaments and gain valuable experiences we wouldn’t
get otherwise.
Thank You for Your Support

The regular season has come to an end for the JV girls, and after a couple of exhibition games and two very challeng-
ing tournaments they have certainly made a name for themselves this year. Their first tournament of the season
took them to Treherne in January, where they would end up finishing in 7th place. The first game Friday ended in a
thrilling 34-31 loss to a scrappy Rivers team, while the second game put the girls up against the #7 ranked Rosenort
Redhawks. Unfortunately the first game of the day took most of the compete out of the crew, and they lost a tough
one to a very strong team. The final game of the tournament saw the Celtics earn their first victory of the season,
beating the Ebb & Flow Thunderbirds 43-9.
After gaining some valuable experience, the team travelled to Neepawa the next weekend to face some even tough-
er competition. The first game of the weekend had the Celtics up against #2 ranked Margaret Barbour, and again
they came up on the wrong end of a tough matchup. In the second game of the tournament the girls played the #6
ranked MacGregor, and pulled off a convincing 46-31 victory over a strong squad. They matched that performance
with another convincing 43-18 win over Virden to wrap up the weekend.
Next up for the team is a zone 8 playoff game against Ebb & Flow in Ste. Rose on Monday, March 2nd @ 3:00. Winner
will get the opportunity to attend Provincials from March 12-14.
The team would very much like to thank everyone for their support in the perogy fundraiser as well as the cash cal-
endars! Your support has made this season possible for us, and we very much appreciate it!
