Have you or anyone in our family ever been homeless? How would you feel

if each night if you had nothing to sleep with but the clothes on your back? Sounds realistic right? Each night in Cincinnati there are 1,300

people homeless. That could be you, your sister, or maybe even your

wife/husband at any given moment.

My FindingsThere are many programs in the United States which help the homeless. One program that I found was Homeless Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and New York City. This program helps individuals with financials such as security deposits,, utility bills and rent checks. This program last for 18 months with a goal to help those homeless or in danger of being. In the past 2 years 3,000 individuals & 1,500 + households have been assisted through Homeless Prevention & Rapid Re- Housing

Common Ground

This is another program that helps assisting the Homeless. This program had made it possible for more than 4,000 individuals to overcome homelessness. Common ground provides housing for the homeless that is affordable, well managed, and provides the services and support to rebuild lives. The program offers programs and activities such as financial literacy workshops, community health affairs, and workshops on art and cooking.

A Program right in Cincinnati! The Greater Cincinnati Coalition provides the

homeless with emergency shelter, housing, medical services etc. Through this program they have a newspaper “ Streetvibes in the News”. This newspaper focuses on homelessness and social justices. Within the Streetvibes program the vendors (homeless individuals) buy the paper for 25 cents and sell it for $1. they get to keep the profit earned. Through this program has helped hundreds of people find and maintain housing.

We Love to Care & Be HappyGOAL TO ACCOMPLISH: To prevent/help 50 homeless women and children in Over The Rhine, Cincinnati. Also to provide them with all the necessities to get started into a better healthy lifestyle. My program will focus on women and children that have no where else to go so they choose a homeless shelter. The women might have had setbacks due to the economy, or maybe even their at home situations. The children might have had parents that died and or both of their parents are homeless also. My program provides a majority of jobs for the women and the children who are of age to work. Everyone has to obtain a job in order to stay in the 1-year program. Everyone is expected to follow the rules here.

Continued…..Expectations are to attend therapy sessions once a week and to actually stay in our shelter 5 days a week. You can check in our program Monday through Friday at 7:00 am and curfew is 10:00 pm My program takes donations and grants from people, organizations and the city. We partner with the Cincinnati Red Cross, City Link and local churches. City Link’s mission is to keep the poverty level low. “ Cincinnati is the 10th poorest city in the country with a poverty rate of 23.5%. That means that approximately one in four Cincinnatians fall below the poverty line, and our city’s poverty rate is almost twice the national average.” Through our partners each individual will have the chance to get a job and learn skills that can help him or her better themselves .

What are My Cost and For How Long?

We Love to Care & Be Happy only last for 1 year. I think 1 year is long enough for a family to get situated with their financials, home situations etc. Each person will have to obtain a job thorough our program. 10% of their pay will go towards our shelters rent. My program will cost $ 794,507 a year.

We Need FoundingMy program is funded from partnership with Cincinnati Red Cross, City Link and grants. Through Emergency Shelter Grants the state has to match the given amount from the Grant. The Emergency Shelter Grant helps with physical and mental health treatment, substance abuse counseling, childcare, etc.), homeless prevention, and grant administration. Also this grant can help with the remodeling of a building used as a new shelter. My other grant , Common Ground, helps with extreme poverty. Common Ground provides grants with the amount of $ 135,000. The common Ground grant last for 1 year and 1 month. Through the Bill and Melinda Foundation I have found a grant that gives out $ 750,000 for 1 year and 1 month called Pierce County.
