Bless the Road
And heaven hold and watch your dream forever
May your every dream come true
Forgive all wrong, always be strong
And do what you must do
You stand before this open door
And you must now go through
My precious friend, my own sweet companion
Bless the road that carries you
My precious friend, my own my sweet companion
Bless the road that carries you. The final verse from a song, “Bless the Road’, from Irish singer Mary Black’s beautiful CD.
Dear Parents, Students and Friends
Last Friday night the Marian community said goodbye to the graduates of Year 12, 2014. It was a beautiful evening that left each of us
with lasting memories. My thanks to all staff who were involved in organising the choir and music and to Fathers Neru and Grace for
saying Mass.
A special thanks to Barbara Dickson who organised a very talented team who created a spectacular flower display throughout the
Marcellin Hall. Similarly I thank the parents from Year 11, Deana Marcon, Franca Sartor, Raeleen Ceccato, Josephine Quarisa and
Maria Searl who did an amazing job at Yoogali Club to create the atmosphere for such a special night-the balloons hanging above the
tables were amazing! Lastly my thanks to the incoming Student Leadership Team, greeting and seating parents for the Mass, helping
at the Yoogali Club and setting up the Mary McKillop Language Centre and packing it up afterwards ready for the next school day.
Peace and Best Wishes
Principal

Notice to all Year 7 Parents
A reminder to all year 7 parents, end of year Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 9 December at 10.00 am(Lesson 2). Also………. As we approach the hotter time of year, myself and Mr Seers, the College Sport Coordinator, have met with Year 7 boys to discuss appropriate sport uniform. The College has high standards for uniform, with excellent options available for both winter and summer months. As summer is upon us, we encourage all boys to wear shorts on sport days as wearing tracksuit pants poses a health and hygiene issue. Could we also remind parents that the College is an asthma friendly school and, as such, spray deodorant is not permitted at school. While we encourage all students to look after their personal hygiene by wearing deodorant, non-spray types are preferable. Thank you for your support with these matters. Bernie Maginnity

LOTE /Italian
Students have taken part in listening and reading comprehension tasks in Italian and achieved these results.
On Thursday evening 20th November, Year 11 Extension English and their teacher
ventured to the Griffith City Cinema to view the modern Science Fiction epic
Interstellar.
In the HSC year Extension English students choose one of eight Modules to
complete. Within each Module are three electives to choose from. At Marian
Catholic College students study Module A: Genre with a focus on Elective 3: Science
Fiction.
Interstellar not only embodies the key conventions and values of Science Fiction, but
it also subverts and challenges some traditional aspects of the Genre making it an excellent example
of how the Genre has evolved.
The students were astonished at the combination of outstanding cinematography and Hans
Zimmer’s powerful score. The film also confronts issues such as Time, Space, Love, Corruption,
Betrayal, Humanity, Faith and Discovery. This film also doubles as a good related text for students
studying the Advanced and Standard Courses for the Discovery Area of Study
Year 11 Students are reminded that their Discovery Tutorial Presentation is due on Monday 8th
December. If students will be absent on this day or week they must see Mr Herb ASAP.
For this assignment students must find a related text that represents the concept of Discovery in a
similar or different way to their set text. It would be recommended that students have chosen their
related texts by Monday of Week 8.
Below is a link to the Griffith City Library Resource which enables students to search for related texts
for Discovery. If students are still looking for a related text they can go to:
http://www.wrl.nsw.gov.au/

Type 'HSC Discovery'
Year 10 students have been given the opportunity to choose elective classes for English for the last
four weeks. Students were asked to pick a course based on their interest, ability and future path
through School, University or into the Workplace. During the last four weeks students will be

Around the World – A look at how English and Communication influences the global society and
tourism
Bear Grylls English – For those who need to refine their English skills for the real world
Now For Something Completely Different – A study of comedy, humour and satire through
performance and appreciation
Play It Again Mam – An academic study of the Film Noir movement of the 40’s and 50’s
