After a swimming career spanning more than 17 years, there’s no doubt Marieke is an incredible athlete. Out of the pool she is just as engaging – an intelligent and insightful young woman, Marieke sees her role as an athlete as the perfect platform to engage in a life and a career where she can truly make a difference. Marieke is also the President of the Australian Swimmers’ Association, a sometime television presenter, model and a corporate keynote speaker. Passionate about educating others, Marieke is experienced in delivering keynote presentations for corporates; using her experiences as an athlete to help inspire & motivate employees to achieve their best. Some of the topics she covers include: high-pressure decision making; talent vs. hard work; motivation & goal setting; and leadership. Having completed her university degree whilst training for the Olympics, Marieke also has a deep interest in public policy, with the topics of education, health, the environment and sustainability holding a special place in her heart. She is currently working with the McKell Institute in their research and policy team, as well as completing her Masters of Public Policy at The University of Sydney. Media trained and at ease in front of the camera, in 2012, unable to compete herself at the London Olympic Games, Marieke appeared several times on Channel Ten’s Late News, commenting on the days’ swimming events. Well-spoken and articulate, on-screen and off, Marieke communicates with a level of confidence and candour that belies her years and experience.
