A great part of Marin’s creativ-ity and passion
is reflected in our homes and gardens. The 2013 Marin Home & Garden Expo’s sponsors, exhibi-
tors and lecturers are proud to have the opportunity to bring their own special contributions and insight to this year’s Expo. They all look forward to address-ing Expo attendee’s individual require-ments and visions. The overall mantra for this year’s Expo is the “Smart Home.” This is presented in our cutting-edge, interactive Smart Home Exhibit and as the overall theme of the products and services represented at the event. Our sponsors and exhibitors show how to make your home smarter with innovative ideas and sustainable trends in how we build, live in and care for our homes and gardens. The Marin Home & Garden Expo will connect you with hundreds of businesses who are experts in helping you create your ideal dwelling.
The Marin Builders Association ac-quired the Marin Home Show in 2010 as a new direction to pursue its goals, raise money for its scholarship fund and showcase MBA members. This event was a perfect match for the Association, allowing it to represent and promote its members and the Marin home building and remodeling industry. The 2013 Expo is the result of the skills and creativity of the MBA manage-ment, staff, committees and board. They have been completely engaged in this project, constantly providing encourage-ment and support. Pacific Expositions has spent the last
three years committed to devel-oping, honing and polish-
ing this Expo for the enjoyment and education of Expo attendees. The dedication and resources brought to the 2013 Expo
by our promotion, sales and production team have
been inspirational and effective. We are your Marin Home &
Garden Expo “Home Team”, and we hope you enjoy the show. —Steve Bajor, CEO • Pacific Expositions

ExHIBIToR HIGHLIGHT
The Interactive Smart Home Exhibit
Trevor Henley - Henley PHoTograPHy
Stewart Munson who helped create the Smart Home Exhibit is a carpenter and painter, designer and performer. Presently, he is building the set for the Mountain Play. He has worked in the theater for eighteen years, with College of Marin Opera, Marin Theatre Company and Regional Center for the Perform-ing Arts in Walnut Creek.
H ave you ever wanted to use just one remote to control the home theater or to access the music that is on your
smart phone through the speakers installed at home? Have you wanted to easily make
certain the kids have arrived safely home from school or view energy usage of a device in real time? All of this – and a lot more - is possible within the Smart Home. Come to the interactive Smart Home Exhibit in the
exhibit hall during the Expo, and SRS Cus-tom Integration will show you how. Explore all that smart home technologies have to offer; check out what a smart house is and how the technology can make your home a safer, more energy efficient and more enjoyable place to live. See how auto-mation and control add energy efficiency and simplicity to your home. Experience how a unified control system provides in-tuitive control of Smart Home systems such as a home theater, audio, shading, lighting, and surveillance systems. Be immersed in video on an incredible 100” projection screen showcased in the living room. Try the latest in game system control with an interactive and motion controlled gaming system in the kid’s video viewing area. See how a connected surveillance system allows you to have added security, both within the home and away from it.
The smart home offers better living through technology – you can feel more se-cure and comfortable with surveillance and lighting control, have more fun with easy access to music and other entertainment content and save energy, provided through an intuitive control system custom tailored to your needs. A smart home system will provide entertainment, comfort and peace of mind for years to come. SRS Custom Integration would like to thank our partners, vendors and distributors for helping to make this exhibit possible: Shades of Marin, Cannan Electric, Savant Systems, Paradigm, Lutron, Redwood Mar-keting, Profit Line, Associate Network Sys-tems Representatives (ANSR), City Electric Supply and Sierra Select Distributors. The latest technology shouldn’t be hard to use – and it isn’t. We can show you how! Enter from Lobby of Exhibit Hall.
Scott and Sam Sheppard of SRS Custom Integration in San Rafael have designed the Smart Home Exhibit at the Expo.

Sexing Up Energy Efficient Lighting with Randall WhiteheadSaturday 2:00pM
R andall Whitehead, a frequent guest expert on HGTV and Martha Stewart Living Radio, will act as your guide to
the best of the emerging alternative light sources, while taking you on a roller coaster ride of good and bad lighting. As newer energy efficient products are coming onto the market, learning what to look for on the label can go a long way in making more informed decisions about the products that you select. Some of the terminologies may be new to you. One of the most important terms to become familiar with is color temperature. All light sources emit a color measured in degrees of Kelvin. This is a major factor in how we perceive illumination and also how the col-ors of objects within a space are affected. Getting familiar with just a few key terms can open up a whole new level of under-standing about how to select lighting products effectively. The basics of good lighting design, called light layering, is when different functions of light—task, accent, ambient and deco-
rative— are used in combination to create a cohesive and flexible illuminated envi-ronment. This technique has not changed with the introduction of alternative light sources, but what we choose can make or break the success of the lighting design. This discussion will show you how to incorporate energy efficient sources of light into a comprehensive design, giving a look that feels like incandescent. The qual-ity of illumination remains with the added benefit of reduced wattage and fixtures that can last a very, very long time. randallwhitehead.com

A smart home will benefit from a landscape filled with wise plants. Our habitat has provided
a long and symbiotic relationship with the animals, birds and insects of Marin county as well as humans. Many of these water wise plants will save us irrigation dollars and at the same time enrich our health. In the past, gardens were planted around a home to provide healing herbs and please our senses.
