Inauguration Greeting from new President & CEO, Mr. Toshiaki Hori, who has been appointed in the board meeting, held on June 23, 2017.
My first, as President and CEO of Mitsubishi Marine Machinery & Equipment Co.,Ltd.(MHI-MME), I want to take this opportunity to reach out and let each of all associates with our business look back over the trail of MHI-MME and future managerial strategies.
MHI-MME was established as a split-off of the Marine Machinery & the Marine Engine business operation under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) in October 2013 and we, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of MHI, handled the development, design, marketing, after-sales service and licensing activities of marine machinery and engines. The first objective of launching MHI-MME was to attain outstanding competitive strength and high-end customer satisfaction by quicker and more flexible business management.Aiming to receive satisfaction from customers, we established a strategy to enhance solution providing business named “PROJECT MEET” which combines strengths in our product portfolio and technical background. Furthermore, we also heighten global after sales network as well as licensees aiming to accomplish the objective.
By implementation of this strategy leaded by Mr.Kazuo Soma, who is former President & CEO of MHI-MME, we have a certain confidence that our strategical movement have gained positive feedbacks from ship-owners and shipyards, especially in terms of quick response to cope with their demands which come from fab-less business style and further concentration of R&D and sales activity.
Consequently, we extend the order of Waste Heat Recovery System, MET Turbocharger, and UEC-LSH 2 stroke Engine which are symbolic items under “PROJECT MEET”.
Besides, we enhance global off ices, intensify solution service menus and make organizational improvement and it resulted in rising sales performance.
O ur go o d l icense es in Korea and China proceed with step especially in terms of improving their quality as well as production efficiency in the present market e n v i r o n m e n t w h i c h i s l e s s unfavorable and we expect that their sales will be extended once the market turns to positive.
In contrast, in order to supply our products to our customers sustainably, new “attractive” trials had to be a taker in our 2 stroke Engine Business has been integrated with the former Kobe Diesel Co., Ltd and renewed the company name as Japan Engine Corporation. The objective of the vertical integration of the respective businesses-from development and design to manufacturing, marketing, and af ter-sales ser vicing- is to improve profitability and competitiveness while flexibly responding to the business environment by building an agile and f lexible business management structure.
As a result of split ting of 2 stroke Engine Business, we are much more concentrating on marine machinery business based in Nagasaki Head Office and reorganize management structure by consisting two business division, one is Marine Machinery Division taking care of marine boiler & turbine and the other marine machinery and another is Turbocharger Division from July 1, 2017.
Each division conducts engineering and sales activity respectively and we are expecting to maneuver more effectively under more appropriate scale business organization.
In addition to our existing marine auxiliary product, Marine Machinery Division has a task to provide new solution product like existing WHRS so as to enhance our competitive strength in terms of technological innovation and reliability, quality of lifecycle services and cost aspects.
Turbocharger business which main market is for 2 stroke Engine and we have already got more Than one-third(1/3) share in the market does same and also has a new challenge to increase the market for main engines, auxiliary engines, and share in 4th engine market especially for land use engines.
We will keep design concept of easy maintainability and structure, which are well received by our customers. In addition to providing high efficient and reliable products, we will enhance more our after sales service activities, to provide more safeness to our customers.
Through the foreseeable future, the economic environment is not expected to be very favorable. We strongly believe that the customer comes first and we are obligated to be an innovative partner as well as a reliable provider of good products and sophisticated service. This is not only to sustain in our own corporate growth but, more importantly, to continue contributing to all clients and market development.

WHRSWHRS is a marine waste heat recovery system that enables highly efficient power generation on board a ship through the effective utilization of energy harnessed from the marine engine’s exhaust gas and steam turbines. This reduces the overall fuel use and cost.
Electric Assist Turbochargers
ORC
The electric assist turbocharger incorporates a compact electric motor that assists the driving of the turbocharger. This delivers optimum plant ef f icienc y when a ship is s l ow s teaming. T his solution delivers equal or bet ter per formance when compared with an auxiliary blower but with less power consumption.
Previously, engine cooling water below 100°C was discharged into the ocean. ORC turbines are compact power generation systems that enable electrical power recovery and power generation using a heat transfer medium with a b oi l ing p oint lower than that of water. This is similar to the technology used in air conditioning units.
USTImplementing modif ications to reheating and regenerative cycle technology has resulted in a highly efficient and reliable state-of-the-art marine steam turbine. When combined with our marine reheat b o i l e r, th is creates an environmentally f r i e n d l y a n d h i g h -e f f i c i e n c y s t e a m propulsion plant.

Development Concept
Used in Combination with Slow SteamingDesigned to suit slow steaming requirements, the Mark-W can improve fuel eciency by between 3% and 6% (when designed for 70-85% MCR conditions). Taking the following MCR conditions as an example for a 6,300TEU container ship installed with a MAP propeller, fuel consumption can be decreased as follows with the installation of a Mark-W propeller: (Case 1) 100% MCR = 3.0%, (Case 2) 85% MCR = 4.0%, and (Case 3) 70% MCR = 5.0%. The amount of fuel saved in these cases are shown in Figure. By designing a propeller that matches the actual operational needs of a customer, it is possible, for example, to achieve fuel savings of between $300,000 and $500,000 per year when operating at 50% engine load.
The MAP Mark-W propeller delivers even more eciency while maintaining cavitation performance. When designing propellers, not only is higher eciency important, but having lower propeller-induced vibratory forces is also key. MAP Mark-W propellers employ cutting-edge fluid technology and can be used in any type of ship. The MAP Mark-W
is ideal for retrofitting and improves propeller eciency and fuel consumption, leading to lower operating costs and a lower environmental impact.

MHI's cargo oil pumps and turbines utilize recognized MHI Group technologies to enable oil cargo to be loaded and unloaded from tankers reliably and efficiently.
Resilient and robust design which takes every possible operating condition into consideration. The auxiliary equipment incorporates an automatic lubrication system and a gear driven system which require no maintenance. Mandatory maintenance has been centralized in order to minimize burden on the user. All Mitsubishi engines offer exceptionally high-power-and-torque on all speed ranges.
Low Pressure EGR gas line is located off the Turbocharger. EGR Unit is installed in the engine as shown in blue.
(EGR:Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
Low Pressure SCR System is positioned downstream of the turbocharger. The system can be installed either inside or outside of the engine room.
(SCR:Selective Catalytic Reduction)
2st Marine Low Speed Engine (UE-Type)UE Engine is a large sized, two-stroke and low speed engine type developed in-house using our own technologies. It is widely used in bulk carriers, oil/chemical tankers, pure car & truck carriers, containerships, LPG carriers, multi-purpose carriers and many other types of vessel.
On April 1, 2017, our company's UE engine business took its first steps as part of Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) after being integrated with the former Kobe Diesel Co., Ltd. through business succession. This combination establishes an agile and flexible business management structure that integrates development, design, marketing, manufacturing, after-sales servicing, and licensing to thrive in a changing marketplace. With long-standing advanced technical support from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., J-ENG will focus on the creation of new added value and work toward growing and developing UE engines as diesel engines that represent Japan on the global stage.
UE engines and Low Pressure EGR and SCR systems are no longer in our company's product lineup, but we will continue to provide all other marine machinery products by being responsive to our customers' specific environmental and economic performance needs.
