Marsden Road Public School
Message from our Principal Dear parents/carers
I would like to begin by thanking all the parents and carers who attended the Meet the Staff and information sessions on 21st February. We had over 120 parents attend the meetings. If you were unable to attend the meeting and would like to know more about your child's learning, you are encouraged to contact the classroom teacher directly.
I would also like to congratulate the community for working together with the school in ensuring that our students come to school on time, everyday, in full school uniform, ready to learn. As a school, we are continually aiming to raise our expectations for our students' academic achievement, social development and wellbeing. We aspire to instil values such as good work ethics, punctuality, mutual respect and pride in presentation. I urge parents to support the school in this journey towards excellence. I understand that at times this can be difficult, however if we want the best for our students, we need to be consistent and endeavour in our efforts.
It would be timely of me to remind parents of some concerns that I have:
Dropping off and picking up children - This continues to be huge problem as many parents are not following traffic rules. Last week alone there were two mishaps; fortunately no one was injured. A number of parents are making illegal U-turns, parking illegally and using or blocking private residential driveways. Please understand that in doing so, you are putting your children at risk. Parking around large schools is a problem for everyone. We are not the only school to have this issue, so please be tolerant, patient and follow traffic rules and regulations.
Attendance and Punctuality - I have been going out in the mornings to encourage students to come to school on time. It is your responsibility to bring your child to school on time. Punctuality is not a choice. All students are expected to be at school on time, every school day, unless there is a valid reason.

UNIFORM SHOP
Our school uniform shop is open on the following days:-
Tuesdays: 8:30am — 9.30am
Thursdays: 2:30pm — 3.30pm
The uniform shop is located in building A2 beside the NAP
classroom.
Any students who were in enrolled and in attendance last year at
our school have a $25.00 voucher at the uniform shop to use
towards a polo shirt or tunic.
Please ask at the uniform shop if you have not used this as yet.
Moorebank Uniform Shop in George Street Liverpool (beside the
library) also stocks our school uniform.
School Uniform - Most students are adhering to our Uniform Policy. There
are still some students wearing calf length or ankle length leggings. Please
note that these are not part of our school uniform. If you need to cover your
legs for comfort, cultural or religious purpose, we ask you to wear full grey
stockings. Only grey or white socks to be worn with black shoes. As our school
is promoting full school uniform, there is provision for supporting families. If
you need financial support with school uniform, please see the front office.
Shoes - Our Uniform Policy states that students should wear black shoes.
While most students have adhered to this policy, it has been noticed that
some students are wearing shoes that are not designed for school wear. As
part of the curriculum, students are involved in various physical activities
such as dance and sports as well as playing during breaks. It is important
that students wear shoes that are suitable for such activities. Slip on shoes,
dress shoes or shoes made from cloth material are not suitable for school.
These shoes may potentially harm your child. We are not asking you to
purchase expensive shoes. Many departmental or shoe retailers have
reasonably priced black shoes for students. If buying proper school shoes is a
concern or you need support, please see your child's teacher.

SCHOOL LUNCHES
Congratulations to all the students who were selected for PSSA.
If you have not paid PSSA in full you are kindly reminded that $5.00 is due weekly for participation.
Should you wish to watch your children play in these sports they begin at 9.45am at the following locations:-
Newcomball Homestead Park, Chipping Norton
Oz Tag Woodward Park, Liverpool
T-Ball Jackie Osmond Reserve, Warwick Farm (Entry behind Peter Warren)
Softball Jackie Osmond Reserve, Warwick Farm (Entry behind Peter Warren)
We have noticed an increasing amount of children who are coming to school without lunch or recess in their bag.
Please kindly note that our school participates in Sip and Crunch where children are encouraged to eat fresh fruit or cut up vegetables (such as carrot sticks) and drink water during the day, in class.
Recess time is separate to Sip and Crunch and again children are given time to eat something small such as biscuits or chips.
At lunchtime children are given 10 minutes to eat. Sandwiches, wraps, salads etc are strongly encouraged.
Please note that hot water can not be provided for noodles and facilities are not available to heat food.
Eating breakfast and meals at school is integral to the functioning of children’s brains and their learning capabilities. Without food your child will struggle during the day with stomach cramps, headaches and poor learning.

TOILETING
With the start of the new year many children are still a little anxious about
their routines changing and can be prone to having an accident. Likewise this
may also happen if the child is very engrossed in their learning or too busy to
go to the toilet whilst playing.
If you can kindly ensure that your child has a change of underpants and
uniform in their bag with their name clearly labelled it would be greatly
appreciated. This will assist with the changing of your child.
