Given the growth we have experienced over the years and need to branch out into various other areas of martial arts coupled with the increased international demand for quality and consistent products from a single source supplier we formed a joint venture with our Chinese partners to form SMAI Qingdao Import and Export Co Ltd through this relationship we are able to export internationally at competitive rates from a central export orientated location to our international customer base. INNOVATIONFor our 2016 range we have many custom features while also cosmetically and aesthetically improving from the traditional uniform design also provide function and fashion to the Martial Arts world!
In many Martial Arts codes it has become a requirement for the top athletes to have lighter newer more innovative fabrics made from microfibre, Microfibre has had a massive impact on all competition sports internationally - from Football to Rugby etc It has the benefits of being ultra light, wrinkle fee, flexible and 100% shrink and colour fast; it is also warmer than traditional fabrics- hence Cool Guard Innovation with the insert of breathable panels in all the key areas needed to maintain fast drying and cool feel for the athlete.
SMAI canvas’ are produced on the highest quality Japanese machines to ensure a high density weave without flaws or variations and also limit shrinkage due to the double-gold-brushed canvas textiles.
We offer a range of light fabrics available for Kumite and Student uniforms made from high quality twill and ribbed textiles through to ultra light Microfibe and our signature Flex FX stretchable fabrics so whatever level of competition of whatever your preference be towards in your kumite or Kata gi we have it covered. Superior quality control processes also ensure that the colour of the fabrics remain consistent throughout batches and the shade of white and colour in the textiles remain vibrant and consistent unlike many of the products available in the market.

SMAI LININGWe have select GIs that have the addition of the protective reinforced mesh lining within the stress points inside the pants and jacket of the GI to give not only added strength for the wearer but to reinforce all of the stress points from potential tears or rips when grappling or taking down opponents. Mesh insert is cool dry and inserted into the main wear areas on the back of the neck and shoulders, on the splits of the jacket and also the inner side of the pants. The mesh inserts also add a substantial feel to the GI on the wearers body and add a touch of fashion to the traditional GI.

KARATESIZINGOver the years and in the 2016 catalogue in particular we have innovated and created a Kumite and Kata size chart that takes into consideration what athletes need from their uniform along with WKF specifications on sizing. New sizing means a more comfortable fit tailored more to Sports Karate needs along with the introduction of half sizing in order to better meet your individual need requirements. In addition to the new Kumite and Kata sizing we also keep our traditional student sizing that is a great entry level uniform for majority of Karate Ka which keeps the basic features but shorter traditional japanese jacket sizing so as to minimise fabric usage and provide clients with a fantastic quality entry level uniform far superior to those in the marketplace.

New item for SMAI in 2016, gives protection to the forearm, manufactured from attractive carbon fibre Syntec fabric and filled with Injection moulded PE foam, simply slide on and fit with the easy velcro tabs on the protectors to give you a level of protection against all kicks and strikes.
