The application of Eriugenian positions to twelfth-century philosophical concerns had a profound impact on issues such as the reconciliation of Dionysian hierarchy with Augustinian immediacy, the understanding of nature as the product of an emanative procession, and the problem of universals. Specific analysis is directed to the solutions to these problems – together with the direct or mediated encounter with Eriugenian philosophy that informed these solutions – proposed by Honorius Augustodunensis, Alan of Lille, Hugh of St. Victor, William of Lucca, and Thierry of Chartres.
