received First Communion or Confirmation. If one of these situations apply to you:

RCIA is the process offered for adults to become full members of the Roman

Catholic Church. There are three participating parishes:

Resurrection, Transfiguration and Our Lady of Grace.

Classes begin on Monday,

September 17, at Resurrection and move to a new parish every 8 weeks.

Catechumens (those never baptized) and candidates (those baptized in another faith) who are ready will receive their sacraments and be welcomed into the

Church at the Easter Vigil, March 26, 2015.

Part One of Five

Did Jesus talk about money? Yes! He did so all the time, because he saw a love of money and possessions as a major stumbling block to a right relationship with God. In Luke 16 he says “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon.” In Matthew 19 when the young man asks what he still lacks in being a disciple, Jesus tells him: Go, sell what you have and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Going back to the Old Testament, read Malachi 3, where the Lord accuses the people of robbing him, and asks them to “bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. . . try me in this, says the Lord of hosts: Shall I not open for you the floodgates of heaven, to pour down blessing upon you without measure? “ Going even further back, in Genesis 28 you have Jacob’s promise to God “of all that you give me I will give you a tenth”. Homework: Think about how you decide what you can afford to give to the Church. Next week: An Antidote to Materialism

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: “Mi carne es verdadera comida y mi sangre es verdadera bebida”. Al oír sus palabras,

muchos discípulos de Jesús dijeron: “Este modo de hablar es intolerable, ¿quién puede admitir eso?” Dándose cuenta Jesús de que sus discípulos murmuraban, les dijo: “¿Esto los escandaliza? ¿Qué sería si vieran al Hijo del hombre subir a donde estaba antes? El Espíritu es quien da la vida; la carne para nada aprovecha. Las palabras que les he dicho son espíritu y vida, y a pesar de esto, algunos de ustedes no creen”. (En efecto, Jesús sabía desde el principio quiénes no creían y quién lo habría de traicionar). Después añadió: “Por eso les he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí, si el Padre no se lo concede”. Juan 6, 60-69 El Evangelio de Juan y las palabras de nuestro Señor registradas en el obligan al oyente a mirar más allá del común, más de aquí y de allá, y abrazar lo trascendente, encontrar a Dios, quien es mucho más de lo que vemos en nuestros alrededores en este mundo caído. El quien es trascendente, pero eminentemente presente en nuestro mundo, aun tanto más. Jesús, al responder a su congregación de discípulos gruñones, les obliga a reflexionar sobre Jacobo el fundador patriarca de Israel. Si usted se recuerda, Jacobo, un día, en un sueño en Bethel tuvo una visión de una Escalera conectándose del cielo a la tierra. Los judíos de los días de Jesús conocían esta historia muy bien. Era una historia que le daba esperanza, que Dios, a través de un Hijo, en la plenitud de los tiempos seria restaurar completamente su relación con la humanidad rebelde. Igual que aquellos primeros discípulos que escucharon al discurso de Jesús el Pan de Cada Día y no lo entendieron, así también, hoy día, muchas personas no lo entienden. Ellos no tienen los ojos o la fe para mirar más allá del aquí y ahora de su existencia dada o tener el corazón abierto para esperanza, para darse cuenta que el mal y la oscuridad de este mundo de este mundo caído es de cosa pasando. Como Cristianos de Resurrección, discípulos del Señor, nosotros tenemos el gran regalo de conocimiento, la plenitud del depósito de la Revelación como está escribo en la Biblia. Nosotros

Una nota del pastor tenemos el regalo de los Evangelios que nos dice la historia completa de la Misión de Jesús, Pasión, Muerte y la Resurrección. Nosotros conocemos la montaña que se conoce por Bethel, cinco kilómetros fuera de Jerusalén, en la cual Jacob decidió de tomar una siesta en la cual él tuvo su gran visión en que el tiempo, Belén: el pueblo al pie de la montaña en la cual Dios vendría a restaurar su creación, a través su Hijo, Jesús. Nosotros sabemos que Jesús, cuando celebrando la Pascua con sus discípulos, toma el pan de Pascua, y lo toma y lo rompe, diciendo “Tome, come, este mi cuerpo.” Él no estaba acido algo casualmente, pero dirigiendo a sus discípulo intencionadamente de como ellos pueden continuar de rutina como de tener el encuentro con el después de su Resurrección. Como el gran filósofo de belga dijo; “En Dios no han accidentes.” En momentos en nuestras vidas, especialmente en encontrarnos con lo malo de laguna clase, nosotros podemos perder la vista de la verdad. Pero, Dios tiene un plan, y un propósito, su creación es bello y bueno, y en Jesús, Dios la está restaurando. Así, este domingo al despedirnos del Discurso del Pan de Vida por este año, tomemos de corazón el mensaje último de Jesús del Evangelio. Jesús es Cristo. Él es el Hijo de Dios enviado al mundo a redimir el mundo. Él es el Hijo del Hombre enviado a bajar las Escaleras del Cielo a redimirnos. En la Eucaristía, en el Pan y Vino transformado en la Misa, Jesús se ofrece a sí mismo a nosotros como Pan para su Viaje. Aquí en el mundo caído Él nos fortalece espiritualmente y físicamente para lo que tengamos que hacer. Así, hoy recordaremos este mensaje importante y recibiremos el Sagrado Sacramento dignamente.

A Note from the Pastor “Many of Jesus’ disciples who were listening said, ’This saying is hard; who can accept it?’ Since Jesus knew that his disciples were

murmuring about this, he said to them, ‘Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, ’For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” (John 6:60-69)

John’s Gospel and the words of our Lord recorded in it force the listener to look beyond the ordinary, beyond the here and now, and to embrace the transcendent, to encounter God, who is so much more than what we see around us in the fallen world. He who is transcendent, yet eminently present in our world, yet so much more.

Jesus, as he responds to his congregation of grumbling disciples, pointedly forces them to reflect upon Israel’s founding patriarch Jacob. Jacob if you recall, one day, in a day dream at Bethel had a vision of Ladder connecting heaven to earth. The Jews of Jesus’ day knew this story well. It was a story that gave them hope, that God, by a Son, in the fullness of time would restore completely his relationship with wayward humanity. Just as those first disciples who heard Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse did not get it, so too, today, many people just don’t get it. They neither have the eyes of faith to look beyond the here and now of their given existences, or have hearts open to hope, to realize that the evil and darkness of this fallen world is a passing thing.

As post-Resurrection Christians, disciples of the Lord, we have the great gift of knowledge, the fullness of the deposit of Revelation as recorded in the Bible. We have the gift of the Gospels which tell us the full story of Jesus’ Mission, Passion, Death and Resurrection. We know the hill known as Bethel, five kilometers outside of Jerusalem, at which Jacob decided to lay down and take the nap in which he had his greatest vision would become over time,

Bethlehem: the village at the foot of the hill in which God would come to restore his creation, through his Son, Jesus. We know that Jesus, when celebrating the Passover with his disciples, picks up the Passover Bread, and takes it and breaks it, saying; “Take, eat, this my body.” He was not doing something casually, but directing his disciples pointedly how they could continue to routinely encounter him after his Resurrection. As the great Belgian Philosopher said; “In God there are no accidents.” At moments in our life, especially after encountering evil of some sort, we may lose sight of this truth. But, God has a plan, and a purpose, his creation is beautiful and good, and in Jesus, God is restoring it.

` So, this Sunday as we bid adieu to the Bread of Life Discourse for this year, let us take to heart Jesus last message from this Gospel. Jesus is the Christ. He is God’s Son sent into the world to redeem the world. He is the Son of Man sent down the Ladder from Heaven to redeem us. And in the Eucharist, in the Bread and Wine transformed at the Mass, Jesus offers his very self to us as Bread for this Journey. Here in the fallen world He strengthens us spiritually and physically for what we need to do. So, today let us recall this important message and receive the Blessed Sacrament most worthily.
