Marty’s Adventure

the paper trail

It was Marty’s big day... printing day! He had been waiting for this day for as long as he could remember. The best of the best ended up in books, but Marty’s parents had always told him to be happy no matter what happened. Today Marty was printed into a flyer for graduating college students. He couldn’t be more excited for the adventure that would follow.

The Chancellor was handing out the flyers at the foot of Bascom Hill. Marty was very excited to find a new home. Katie, an art student at the university was about to grab him when a gust of wind blew Marty down the street. This terrible turn of events was disappointing for Marty, but when he glanced behind him he saw Katie following him.

Marty blew gracefully down State Street. He peered into the windows of the stores, admiring their displays and beauty. Paul’s Book Store looked extraordinarily gorgeous. All of the books were super elegant and expensive, bound in beautiful handmade materials. He looked longingly for as long as he could before passing out of sight.

He then noticed Espresso Royale Cafe. The little coffee shop was bustling with students and local people. Just when Marty passed the front door, a reckless cafe-goer nearly spilled all of his java. Luckily Marty avoided the spill and continued onwards. Katie was not so lucky, however. Marty saw the same student run into her and spill coffefe everywhere.

Next Marty passed The Exclusive Company. He had always been fond of music and was pleased when the wind died down enough for him to catch a bit of one of those melodious classical songs. His parents were classical music lovers, so naturally this encounter reminded him of them.

As Marty hummed harmonious tunes to himself he fluttered by Tellus Mater. The window display was full of colorful pots, pans, cups, plates and various utensils for cooking and baking. He envied their durability and shiny exteriors. Someday Marty hoped to be something so useful.

Marty flew by The Community Pharmacy. There was a gentleman outside of the store chasing around what Marty could only guess was his prescription. The man was flustered, sneezing and coughing while running in circles. It humored him to see someone else in almost the same situation as he was!

Just when Marty was in front of The Soap Opera he got splashed by a passing bus! Luckily he didn’t get too dirty, but it did seem cruel to get splashed right in front of the soap store. He imagined taking a bath in the fragrant bubbles as the soaps and scrubbies in the window temped him.

When Marty came out of his daydream, he had settled on the foot of The Madison Capital. Katie was right next to him too, talking to the governor! He picked up Marty and handed him to Katie. She was very appreciative and a little timid, being in the presence of the governor and all. She took him home, applied for graduation and recycled Marty.

The next week, Marty came fresh off the press in the form of a brand new book. Marty was forever happy!
