Specifically written for young players — easy melodies, simple harmonies, easy solos to imitate, solo/echo patterns. 2. Combination of swing and straight eighth note styles. IV. E I E A GO! — Equip Inspire Excite Achieve Go! A. Equip kids (notes, rhythms, articulations, etc.), inspire each other, get excited, achieve and GO! (Leave the jar) V. Pieces to be presented: A. “Hot Cross Buns” and “Hot Cross/Merrily Mambo” — Legato and staccato articulations. Mastering staccato articulation is essential for playing jazz on the recorder! From Big Mouth Blues and B-A-G Bossa Nova. B. “Swing Along” — Swing version of “Merrily We Roll Along.” “Doo, dut dut” articulation. Transcribed B,A,G solo to emulate. From B-A-G Bossa Nova. C. “Mary Had a Great Big Band” — Embellished “Mary Had a Little Lamb” w/ B section. 32 bar song form. From B-A-G Bossa Nova. D. “Jazz Waltz,” in the style of “All Blues” by Miles Davis, and “5/4 Swing,” in the style of “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck. From Jingle Bells in 10 Flavors. E. “Shuffle Me” — Hard swinging!
