MARY IMMACULATE PARISH JAPAN RELIEF – Bishop Kmiec has directed a second collection to be taken for Japan Relief. We will do this this weekend as a second collection. Please place your donation in a plain envelope marked “Japan Relief” with your name, and envelope number to be credited properly as your donation. NO CLOSING HYMN DURING LENT - Preface for Lent I calls Lent a “joyful season” because it prepares us for the celebration of the Paschal Mystery, the redemption won for us by Christ through his death and resurrection. However, the general tenor of this season is one of conversion through repentance for sin by fasting, prayer, and alms-giving. This more somber tone is reflected in the Liturgy by the omission of the Gloria and the Alleluia. Our celebrations for the Eucharist during this season will reflect this attitude by the use of the Confiteor (found at the bottom of pg. 4 in the Heritage Missal) for the Penitential Rite and the omission of a closing hymn. CONFESSIONS/RECONCILIATION during Holy Week in Leroy at St. Peter’s site: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 7 – 8 pm; Good Friday at 10 – 11 am, 1:30 – 2:30 PM, and 7 –8 pm; Holy Saturday at 10 – 11 am and 3 – 4 pm. In Batavia at St. Joseph’s site: Communal Penal Service Monday 7 pm VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOLY THURSDAY – which is on April 21st. The Vicariate is planning on visiting area churches for an evening of prayer and adoration. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be at 7 pm in East Bethany. If you are planning to attend and are willing to volunteer to be a greeter, help with refreshments or make cookies/desserts for the reception, please sign up on the volunteer sheet or call the office at 584-7031 and leave a message. CATHOLIC CHARITIES - (Please note corrected dates) Soon you will be receiving a donation card in the mail for Catholic Charities. We ask that you mail your pledge or donation in the envelope provided. Please make your check payable to “Catholic Charities.” By mailing in your pledge card, you alleviate some of the work of our volunteers. Should you wish to pay in person, our volunteers will be available only on the Sundays of April 10th and April 17th. Please note, we have a new parish number for Mary Immaculate of #1025. This should be noted on your donation card as well as on your check memo. Your donations are greatly needed and appreciated. **Communion Ministers, Lectors, Music Ministers, and Teachers, this notice is for you: ROMAN MISSAL WORKSHOP As you are aware, this fall we will all be using the new Roman Missal. In order to properly prepare for this, our Communion Ministers, Lectors, Music Ministers, Teachers, and anyone else who may be interested, are asked to attend a workshop. STATIONS OF THE CROSS & SCRIPTURE REFLECTION: Fridays in March 7:00 pm in East Bethany Fridays in April 7:00 pm in Pavilion “THE WORD AMONG US” This is a monthly subscription that gives a complete Catholic Mass and Daily Meditations. It is similar to the Five Minutes With the Word, only much more. If we can get 25 people to subscribe, the price would be approximately $20 for your subscription. WHERE ARE YOUR IDEAS? We are still looking for a new fundraiser event for fall of 2011. We’ve had a couple but are looking for more so, put those thinking caps on and e-mail us at [email protected], call us on Tuesday or Thursday between 9 am – 1 pm at 584-7031 or drop us a note in the collection basket. We welcome any and all ideas.  OUR FIRST CHICKEN BBQ IS APRIL 10TH – And in this regard we have left worker assignments for our East Bethany parishioners to pick up. Pavilion parishioners are asked to sign up on the volunteer sheets. The more hands we have, the lighter the workload!! Posters advertising our BBQ are available for anyone who knows of a place it could be displayed. QUILT RAFFLE – Our Ladies of Charity, through the talents and generosity of Pauline Kegler, have a queen size quilt, which will be raffled off at our last fund raiser event of 2011. If you know of any place that would be willing to sell tickets for us, please let us know and we will provide a color poster and tickets. Black and white posters are also available – take as many as you need and can properly display. Another event held on April 10th is the Pavilion Central Junior Class Breakfast Buffet at BW’s Restaurant. First serving is at 9 am and second serving at 10 am. Menu includes eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, hash browns, muffins, milk, juice and coffee. Cost is $8 Adults, $5 children age 5-10, under 5 free. Tickets are available from any 2012 class member. There will be a special surprise visit from our favorite spring rabbit and an Easter Egg coloring station for the kids. All proceeds go directly to the Class of 2012. We apologize for the conflict with our own BBQ but we were unaware when we scheduled our BBQ that this event would be taking place. SICK LIST – If you have asked for someone to be placed on the sick list and that individual has now recovered, please let us know we so we can remove that name. As always, we ask everyone to say special prayers for our loved ones who are ill. FIRST COMMUNION will be Saturday, May 7th at 4 pm in Pavilion. REMAINING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES: Only three classes left ! They are: April 3rd, May 1st and May 22nd.

Please drop your contributions in the box in the entrance of the church. THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT: Our children are like the Samaritan woman in today’s gospel. They need more than material things. They need the “living water” only the adults can give. It will teach them how to make decisions, take responsibility, respect themselves and others and live their commitments. With this “living water” they will “never thirst.” The faith of the Church teaches us that the human person is the only creature that God has created so as to spend an eternity with him. At the moment of conception, God infuses into every human being the gift of an immortal soul within which resides the image of the Triune God who creates, redeems and sanctifies us. Is it any wonder that from her earliest days, the Church has been the champion of the gift of human life? From the time of the Roman Empire in which abortion and infanticide were common practices until this very day when unjust laws and morally flawed judicial decisions have robbed millions of unborn babies of the right to life, is there any wonder that the Church who is our Mother and Teacher raises her voice, and with clarity and insistence calls for a revolution of conscience that would make an end to abortion and to all those technological interventions that usurp the God-given right of a child to be born from the intimate and loving embrace of a husband and wife? ~ Most Rev. Robert Mc Manus, Bishop of Worcester, homily, Vespers Vigil for All Unborn Human Life. Nov. 28, 2010.

A lively little boy was warned by his daddy that the next time he misbehaved during church services, he would be punished.

The next time came, and Daddy picked up the lad to take him out. Before they got out of the sanctuary, the little boy loudly addressed the congregation, “Please pray for me.” John Summy, Stuarts Draft, VA
