LIBRARY NEWS: We have a new copy of THE PRACTICE OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD, by Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, with a forward by Henri Nouwen. Here is a guide for all Christians aspiring to union with God, which, the author says, is the ultimate goal of every person. IN the words of this lay Carmelite, “we must trust God and abandon ourselves to Him alone.” This little spiritual classic—in its fresh, contemporary English translation—renders the simple wisdom of Brother Lawrence accessible to every Christian who yearns for the fullness of life. Please stop by the pastoral building and check out a book or a tape. Open daily 9-5, and Sunday 9-1.

The Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center in Cullman and Contemplative Outreach Birmingham are sponsoring a Centering Prayer weekend retreat to be held in Cullman, Feb. 5-7, 2016. This retreat, designed for those who have already attended an introductory retreat or workshop, will focus on developing further the discipline of Centering Prayer, a form of Christian prayer rooted in the ancient Christian contemplative tradition. There will be extended periods of Centering Prayer and shared Lectio Divino (Sacred Reading). The weekend will be spent in silence. Registration will be from 6-7 pm on Friday, Feb. 5, and the program will end after the noon meal on Sunday. The cost for the weekend is $245/person for a private room and includes lodging, meals and linens. For registration information, please contact the Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center at (256) 734-8302 or [email protected]. Centering Prayer Lenten Study, Saturdays 2/20 and 3/19, Church of Holy Communion, 9:30-11:00am. Come join us and be enriched about our Christian contemplative heritage, centering prayer and the spiritual journey. This opportunity is for beginners and those who have been practicing for awhile. In the film," Invitation From God", we are taking a peek over the shoulder of Danish film maker, Marie Louise and Fr. Thomas Keating as they are engaged in an intimate conversation about the human condition, spiritual journey and centering prayer. Don’t feel it is necessary to attend both classes. Each session offers its own insights independent of the other class offering. Can attend one or both. Pat Pavetto facilitator 901-230-1341

John Michael Talbot:
The Jesus Prayer in the Year of Mercy A Lenten Reflection
On Thursday evening, February 11, 2016 at 7PM, Lumen Civitatis is excited to host Christian singer and songwriter John Michael Talbot at St. Louis Catholic Church in
Memphis.
Talbot is considered a Christian Music Legend, being one of the pioneer artists of what has been known as Contemporary Christian Music. He is recognized as Catholic
music's most popular artist, with platinum sales and compositions published in hymnals throughout the world.
On this very special evening, Talbot will provide in song and the spoken word a
reflection on The Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner) in the context of the season of Lent and the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Today, John Michael Talbot is one of the most active evangelists, traveling throughout the world, inspiring and renewing the faith of Christians of all denominations through
sacred music, inspired teaching, and motivational speaking. Like a modern St. Francis of Assisi, Talbot is rebuilding God's Church "one parish at a time and renewing
hearts one life at a time".
Talbot is also a best-selling author. His 26th book, Nothing is Impossible with God, was published in November 2013 by Matthew Kelly's Dynamic Catholic Institute
and Beacon Publishing. His 27th book, The Ancient Path, was published in January 2015 and his latest book, The Master Musician: Meditations on Jesus is now available.
We hope you can join us on this wonderful occasion.
We expect a capacity crowd, so register soon!
Visit www.lumencivitatis.com and reserve your spot.
A Love Offering will be received during the event (suggested donation of $15) to support the ministries of John Michael Talbot and the Brothers and Sisters of
Charity. No one will be turned away for lack of funds!
