Dear Parishioners, Love one another as I have loved you”, is the commandment Jesus gives each and every one of us on this Sunday. In the first reading, Peter teaches us that God shows no partiality in His love and that there are no boundaries to abiding in love. God loves everyone, both the Jews and the Gentiles, and He wants everyone to be saved through His son, Jesus. In the second reading, John defines God as love and explains that He expressed His love for mankind by sending His son to die for us humans as expiation for our sins. This Divine love gives us the command as well as duty to love one another as we have been loved by God. In today s Gospel, we are called to love in response to Jesusunconditional, forgiving, selfless, sacrificial love for us. This Sunday we celebrate MothersDay. We thank our mothers, pray for them, and honour them by celebrating Mother s Day offering our mothers on the altar of God. This is a day to admit gratefully the fact that none of us is able to return, in the same measure, all the love that our mothers have given us. Their influence on their children is so great that it affects the children throughout their lives. Our mothers not only gave us birth but nursed us, nurtured us, trained us in their religious beliefs and practices, taught us good manners and ideal behaviour, disciplined us as best as they could, and made us good citizens of our country, our Church, and our society. On Mothers Day, let us acknowledge the truth that we have two mothers: our earthly mother and our Heavenly Mother, the Mother of Jesus. The Catholic Church proclaims the great nobility of the Mother of Jesus, Mary most holy, and presents her as the supreme model for all mothers. Let us show our love and appreciation for both of our mothers and let us ask our Heavenly Mother to take care of our earthly mothers. We need to be persons for others, sacrificing our time, talents, and lives for them as our mothers are now or have been. Bishop Ken appeals to all of us to creatively participate with Caritas Australia, in partnership with Caritas India, in providing support to India which is devastated by massive increases in COVID-19 infection rates. Caritas is accepting donations through Asia Emergency Appeal which can be found here: https://caritas.org.au/donate/emergency- appeals/asia-emergency-appeal/. If you wish to donate for this noble cause please make use of this online platform. Let us also keep on the month-long prayer marathon with Pope Francis. The next weekend we celebrate the Feast of Ascension and the following weekend we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost which is the culmination of Easter Season. As Easter people let us continue to cherish the peace and happiness of Easter throughout our life. Fr Enoch invites you to join with other Parishioners and friends for a Morning Tea after Mass on Monday 10th May at 10.00am at the Chatterbox Coffee Shop at Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown. Dear Brothers and Sisters, to love others the way that God loves us is, truly, a great challenge. It is the challenge of our whole human existence. It will require sacrifice and suffering. It probably will mean giving up much that made us feel secure. But it is the way of Jesus. It is the way of His Mother and to a certain extend all mothers in general. Let us pray that it becomes our way too. Dear Parishioners,

“Love one another as I have loved you”, is the commandment Jesus gives each and every one of us on this Sunday. In the first reading, Peter teaches us that God shows no partiality in His love and that there are no boundaries to abiding in love. God loves everyone, both the Jews and the Gentiles, and He wants everyone to be saved through His son, Jesus. In today’s Gospel, we are called to love in response to Jesus’ unconditional, forgiving, selfless, sacrificial love for us.

This Sunday we celebrate Mothers’ Day. We thank our mothers, pray for them, and

mother and our Heavenly Mother, the Mother of Jesus. The Catholic Church

supreme model for all mothers. Let us show our love and appreciation for both of our

mothers and let us ask our Heavenly Mother to take care of our earthly mothers. We need

to be persons for others, sacrificing our time, talents, and lives for them as our mothers are

now or have been.

Sixth Sunday of Easter: Year B

First Reading: Acts 10: 25-26, 34-35, 44-48 Peter enters the house of a Gentile called Cornelius, to do so was considered unlawful. However, the occasion was filled with blessing as the Holy Spirit flowed into all who were present, a sure sign that God ‘does not play favourites’.

Second Reading: 1 John 4: 7-10 God’s love is witnessed in Christ who came into the world such that we would have life. This is the foundation of our faith; that God is love.

Gospel: John 15: 9-17 The Gospel reading invites us to dwell in God ’s love. Enjoying a friendship offered by Christ, we come to know God more fully as we live out the command to ‘love one another’.

ENCYCLICAL LETTER LAUDATO SI’

OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME What is Happening to our Common Home

VI. WEAK RESPONSES

57. It is foreseeable that, once certain resources have been depleted, the scene will be set for new wars, albeit under the guise of noble claims. War always does grave harm to the environment and to the cultural riches of peoples, risks which are magnified when one considers nuclear arms and biological weapons. “Despite the international agreements which prohibit chemical, bacteriological and biological warfare, the fact is that laboratory research continues to develop new offensive weapons capable of altering the balance of nature”. Politics must pay greater attention to foreseeing new conflicts and addressing the causes which can lead to them. But powerful financial interests prove most resistant to this effort, and political planning tends to lack breadth of vision. What would induce anyone, at this stage, to hold on to power only to be remembered for their inability to take action when it was urgent and necessary to do so?

58. In some countries, there are positive examples of environmental improvement: rivers, polluted for decades, have been cleaned up; native woodlands have been restored; landscapes have been beautified thanks to environmental renewal projects; beautiful buildings have been erected; advances have been made in the production of non-polluting energy and in the improvement of public transportation. These achievements do not solve global problems, but they do show that men and women are still capable of intervening positively. For all our limitations, gestures of generosity, solidarity and care cannot but well up within us, since we were made for love.

ACN Australia - A message from Aid to the Church in Need Australia: ACN Australia has just launched its new Healing the Wounds of Religious Extremism in Africa Global Campaign. Tragically, Africa is the continent with the highest number of murdered priests, religious and catechists and it is also home to 234 million Catholics. As such, ACN views its task in supporting the Catholic Church there as necessary. To help support our brothers and sisters in Africa visit www.aidtochurch.org/africa.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Dear Parishioners, As we are gearing up to go to Ignite Launch on Saturday 15th May at Dreamworld (10.00am-8.30pm) we will be preparing to attend the Ignite Conference in September. If you are interested in attending, please contact me!

UNITE TEENS: This Friday night, we’ll be looking at the importance of ‘togetherness’ and explore the differences and similarities in how we each practice our faith and how different cultures can influence how families practice their faith. UNITE YA: This Sunday night, we hope to look at this week’s readings and discuss why it is important to keep Jesus’ commandment and love one another. One of my favourite things about YA nights is the open discussion that is encouraged. I love being able to create an environment that fosters healthy and respectful dialogue among all! So if you are a young person aged between 18-35 who also loves open discussion about a range of different topics and issues, please come and join us!!! IGNITE LAUNCH INFO: The Parish will not be formally organising transport to and from Dreamworld, HOWEVER, if you are unsure as to how to get there/are unable to drop off or pick up your child, please contact me asap so we can work together to organise carpooling options! 10:00am is when the park and rides open 8:30pm time for kids to be picked up! What you will need to bring:

Water bottle Hat Backpack Packed lunch/money for lunch (only dinner is provided) $10 for bag locker hire (if you can’t be bothered to carry your own

bag…like me) If anyone has any questions about anything or would just like to chat for the sake of chatting (like me), please do not hesitate to contact me via mobile or email! May God bless you and keep you safe, Nat Gibbs
