MASS ON THE GRASS 2019 — MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR BIG EVENT ON PAGE 5!
Dear Parishioners, Thanks to all of you who participated in our 8th Annual Mass on the Grass celebration. This was our biggest Mass on the Grass yet. If you did not come, you totally missed out. Thanks especially to the following: Brandon Kawachi and Scott Hines for setting up our sound; Ben Stanton and Rene Paladini and the band for our music; Eldrin Masangkay, Fr. Marlon and our sacristans and altar servers; Zack Zuvich and our Life Teen Core members for setting up for our liturgy outside; and, our Life Teen ushers, greeters, lectors, and EMHC’s. I also want to thank the following people for the social that we enjoyed after Mass: Thanks also to Misha Buising and Singles For Christ (they are awesome) for setting up and maintaining the High School grounds for the social; the Holy Family Grade School Kiwanis Builders Club for serving our dessert; the Charismatic Prayer group for organizing and serving our beverages; the Our Lady of Fatima saints for handling our safety and parking directions; the Holy Family High School Kiwanis Key Club for handling the 50/50 drawing; the pastoral council for handling the activities and door prize raffle; all of our parishioners who brought drinks, and last but not least … a very special thank you to our overall event coordinators, Mark Geraci, Deacon Ron Baker and James Jonson. Without you, the event would not be what it is. So, thank you for all of the hard work and incredible support!! Our men’s retreat is next weekend. Please come join this dynamic group for a weekend vacation with the Lord. We are getting closer to finalizing our grade school fencing and yard project. Thank you for your patience. This is a much needed and long overdue improvement. I am very excited about it, and you will love it! Just a friendly reminder: The Elks club is open for parish parking for Sunday morning Masses. When the gates are open, please feel free to utilize this lot. We appreciate the generosity of the Elks club. It is located just west of the church between Colorado and Elk Avenues. We are still short on our Together in Mission goal to support needy parishes and schools in the archdiocese. A number of those who have pledged have failed to make their commitments. Are you perhaps one of them? If not, please honor your commitment to the needy parishes and schools as soon as possible. Blessings – Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor 818-247-2222 x225 [email protected]

JUSTICE AND PEACE Would you like to help?
The Justice and Peace Committee is looking for volunteers to prepare individual packages of toiletries to hand out to our less fortunate brothers
and sisters we serve in October. These are the hygiene products we are collecting as a parish during September. The date to prepare the packages is Tuesday, October 1 at 3:00 pm and will take place in the Parish Office. If you are interested, please contact Jackie Balousek at 818 247 2222 X226 or [email protected].
Also if you would like to help serve a meal to the homeless on October 13 or 27, please contact Deacon Ron Baker at 818-247-2222 X552 or [email protected]. The other Sunday in October is staffed by Confirmation Students. We only need about 6 people each day. An assigned ministry will be preparing the meal.

THIS WEEK AT HOLY FAMILY AROUND THE DIOCESE

AROUND THE DIOCESE ALERT NOTIF ICAT IONS FOR PARISHES REGARDING THESE PRIESTS :
Fr. Jose Guadalupe Sanchez The Vicar for Clergy Office has continued to received reports from local parishes about Fr. Jose Guadalupe Sanchez, an archdiocesan priest who was placed on inactive leave in 2003. He is also known as Fr. Joseph Sanchez, Fr. Joe Sanchez, and Bishop Jose Sanchez. Fr. Sanchez joined the Mexican National Catholic Church and subsequently received the title of Bishop from that religious denomination. He administers San Benedicto Church in Whittier along with chapels in Fontana and Bakersfield under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Mexican National Catholic Church. He also celebrates Masses and sacraments under the auspices of the Mexican National Catholic Church in non-Roman Catholic institutions such as nursing homes and funeral homes in East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, and the Southeast Los Angeles County area. Although Fr. Sanchez has not attempted to celebrate Mass in any archdiocesan institution, there is a general confusion among the faithful who witness non-Roman Catholic priests presiding at services in non-Catholic institutions. Parishioners should be reminded regularly that Funeral Masses should take place in parish churches, archdiocesan approved chapels/oratories, or Catholic mortuary chapels. This is the link to the archdiocesan cemeteries and mortuaries website: https://catholiccm.org/. Funeral Masses are not to be celebrated at private residences or independently-run mortuaries and cemeteries. The Arch-diocese has no control over non-Catholic mortuaries, non-Catholic cemeteries, and private nursing home facilities. Parishes are strongly encouraged to have active bereave-ment ministries and compassionate outreach to local nursing homes. It should also be made clear that the Mexican National Catholic Church is neither affiliated with the
Roman Catholic Church nor associated with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Fr. Sanchez is aware that he does not possess the faculties to minister as a Roman Catholic priest in any capacity, and his name already appears in “The Clergy with No Faculties List.” Fr. Ramon Flores The Vicar for Clergy Office has received reports from local parishes in the San Pedro Pastoral Region about Fr. Ramon Flores. Fr. Flores is affiliated with the Free Catholic Diocese of Southern California and currently serving at San Juan Diego Free Catholic Community in Long Beach. Recent reports indicate that there has been confusion among the faithful regarding the religious affiliation of Fr. Flores who has been celebrating services in funeral homes in Whittier and surrounding areas. It should be made clear that the Free Catholic Church and its parishes are neither in communion with the Roman Catholic Church nor affiliated with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. There have been no indications at this time that Fr. Flores has attempted to minister in any archdiocesan institution. Nonetheless, it should be understood that Fr. Flores does not possess faculties to minister as a Roman Catholic priest. Fr. Francisco Dalimot The Vicar for Clergy Office has received reports from local parishes in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Pastoral Regions about Fr. Francisco Dalimot. He is also known as Fr. Frank and Fr. Francis Dalimot. Fr. Dalimot is a priest from the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan in the Philippines, but he was formally suspended from ministry by his bishop in 2005. Therefore, he does not possess faculties to minister in the Archdiocese. Recent reports indicate that he has celebrated home Masses in the vicinities of Eagle Rock and San Dimas. He is also known to preside at services in non-Catholic cemeteries, and his name already appears on the “Clergy with No Faculties List.” Under no circumstances should he be permitted to minister in any archdiocesan institution.
If you are aware that these priests are seeking to exercise ministry anywhere in the Archdiocese, please immediately notify the Vicar for Clergy Office at (213) 637-7284.
