ST. PATRICK PARISH NEWS
Lent – Fridays of Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. Fasting is obligatory from ages 18 until 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding from age 14 onwards. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night), the "Paschal fast" honors the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and aids souls to share more fully and celebrate more readily His Resurrection.
Lenten Challenge: “Listen to Catholic Radio AM 820 this Lent”
Holy Hour Thursdays 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.Sacrament of Penance – 6:30 p.m.
About the Cover – Pictured on the bulletin cover is the sanctuary lamp of St. Patrick’s Church. It burns as an indication of the Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament reserved within the tabernacle. In every Catholic church or chapel, in which the Blessed Sacrament is kept in the tabernacle, a light burns to indicate Christ’s presence. Our sanctuary lamp was a gift of Thomas R. and Charles Brennan in 1910 at the cost of $100.00. Photographs indicate that it was in use until the mid-1950s. After that, its whereabouts remain somewhat of a mystery. One story is that it was given to parishioners to use in their home but were unable to do so. Another parishioner, Joe Londergan, who frequented local auctions kept track of the lamp’s movements. In the 2004 renovations of the church, Fr. Sill, pastor, asked that items from its earlier days might be returned for possible re-use. At that time, the sanctuary lamp came home to find that its chain and counterweight were awaiting its return still in place in the ceiling. After an initial cleaning, the sanctuary lamp was re-hung. A few years ago, Fr. Ghiloni had it re-plated along with some minor repairs. Its value in today’s dollars is significantly more than its purchase price!Over the course of time as an outgrowth of our 2016’s 150th anniversary year, we hope to feature other artistic and devotional works within the church that give us a foretaste of heaven.

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 1, 2020
Message from Father HinterschiedA friend of mine informed me that our parish is now recommended by ReverentCatholicMass.com. It was not a website that I had even previously heard of, but upon looking into it, I find this quite uplifting! It is a website dedicated to helping Catholics who seek a reverent Mass to be able to find them easily while traveling or moving.
It was conceived by an American married couple when it occurred to them that all their traveling can and should incorporate a pilgrimage aspect into it as well.
This website is intended to help highlight the best of what the Catholic Church has to offer while traveling and in doing so build up the People of God. Their list has been compiled using a criteria method. They say their indicators signal that a parish is Christ-centered, prioritizes the Mass, and is willing to courageously teach the full teaching of the Catholic Faith.
The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Faith. St. Patrick will always try to help those who seek Jesus Christ to find Him, especially in the Mass where He is made manifest among us.
An expression of gratitude to God for another successful School Auction Dinner last Saturday night! Thanks to all who attended, it was especially touching to meet many alumni who returned to campus after many years, to all who donated, to all who gave to the event financially, and especially to all who were a part of the planning committee and all their efforts that made the dinner run so smoothly, be so beautiful, and be so enjoyable for everyone, a job well done!
St. Patrick's Feast Day is approaching, and we have many events planned around March 17 to particularly celebrate and honor our Patron. Stay tuned!
