Today’s Readings First Reading — As a bridegroom rejoices in his bride, so God rejoices in the chosen ones (Isaiah 62:1-5). Psalm — Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations (Psalm 96). A Visible God
We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult “public life” at his baptism by John. Today’s Gospel reading tells us of his “first sign,” providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Confirmation Information
The first of two Confirmation retreats will be held on Saturday, January 26th, for those teens in their second year of prepara-tion. Teens only need to attend one of the two retreats. (The second retreat will be Saturday, March 9th.)
Teens in their second year come with their parents from 8:30-11:30 AM, and then with their sponsor(s) from 1:00-3:30 PM.

The annual Mass of Reparation will be celebrated this year at St. Martin, Tuesday, January 22nd, at 7:00 PM.
The Mass of Reparation remembers and prays for the over 65 million babies that were aborted from their mother's wombs since the Roe vs. Wade decision made abortions legal.
We would like to urge all parishioners of St. Elizabeth’s parish to set some time aside and attend this annual Mass.

Couples celebrating their Wedding Anniversaries (1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, 40th, 50th, and greater) this year are invited to attend the celebration mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in downtown San Jose on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 2:00 pm.
The couples will renew their wedding vows, will receive a blessing at the celebration, and will receive a certificate signed by our Most Reverend Bishop. Cake reception will follow in Loyola Hall, Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph. Couples need to pre-register online at dsj.org.

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Revelation 2:10)
Are your activities curtailed, your reputation on the decline, opposition building up on all sides? Wait for God's time. "And every branch that does not bear fruit he will prune so it will bear more fruit: (Jn 15:2). The green branch comes into bud and blossom, and brings forth an abundant harvest. During His agony in the garden, our Lord took along the three apostles for whom he had a special affection: Peter, James, and John (cf. Mt 26:37-38). Are you afraid to be one of His closest friends? In times of suffering there are three things to avoid: Do not ask who was at fault, but give thanks to God for the instrument that may sanctify you. Do not seek human consolation. The Blessed Sacrament and our Lady are the first place to turn in with your problems. When something has passed, do not mention it again, but cease all recriminations and rancor; forget about it, and say; "Alleluia!" Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
A cordial greeting in the Lord Jesus. After Christmas and New Year’s, we suddenly enter a time of calm and meditation, ordinary time, which invites us to continue walking in
the growth of our faith.
And the Church always proposes to us as the main point of view the Holy Scriptures; through them, we go to know and find Jesus, sit at His feet and listen to His teachings, because we need Him, because our thinking, although brilliant and advanced, has many limitations that can only be overcome with the wisdom that the Master offers us. In our homes, we spend perhaps the happiest moments of our life. There are born the best feelings and the first hugs and tenderness, but also and often the sufferings that cloud our lives. But Jesus has for us the great Miracle of resolving our conflicts, when we open our hearts to Him and let love be the powerful weapon that wages the battle against any difficult situation that we confront. Today we find in the Gospel the presence of Mary, the loving Mother of Jesus, who, realizing a conflict in the party they have been invited to, comes to her Son to tell him that some-thing must be done, that they must help (John 2:1-12). This is how we find Jesus, in that compassionate action of responding to his Mother with that timely help that comes from God, in favor of the family that has need at that moment of the loving action, and that teaches us that we must always do something and not remain still before the need of our fellow men.
The family needs Jesus, our Redeemer, and needs the careful presence of Mary. We must invite them into our homes and into our lives, today, when there are many conflicts in the conduct of human beings, in feelings, in education and in the many problems they face. We leave our homes thinking of difficulties. We should also find Jesus and Mary in places of work, and in environments where faith should shelter and guide life. We must not let our lives lose their balance. It is time to sit down and think hard. Invite Mary, to look closely at our conflicts and concerns, to intervene with her intercession before her Son, to guide us and help us, to propose to us their teachings and ways of life, and to encourage us with the good announcement of the Prophet Isaiah: better times will always come; evil should not be a constant worry in our lives (Isaiah 62:1-5).

Bài đọc 1: Is 62:1-5 Trong bài đọc sau đây, ngôn sứ Isaia cho dân biết: họ sẽ được Chúa cho từ chốn lưu đày trở về xây dựng lại thành thánh, và tương lai của thành sẽ rực rỡ vinh quang, vì có Chúa luôn gìn giữ chở che. Bài đọc 2: 1Cr 12:4-11 Có nhiều ân sủng khác nhau, nhưng chỉ do một Thánh Thần ban, vì ích lợi chung cho toàn thể dân Chúa. Ðó là điều thánh Phaolô xác quyết trong đoạn này. Tin Mừng: Ga 2:1-12 Tin Mừng hôm nay thuật lại Chúa Giêsu biến nước thành rượu tại tiệc cưới Cana, theo lời yêu cầu của Mẹ Maria, để giúp gia đình tiệc cưới và để các môn đệ tin Người là Ðấng Cứu Thế.

Tôi xin ngỏ lời chào thân mật trong Chúa Giê-su. Sau mùa Giáng Sinh và Năm Mới, chúng ta đang đi vào một thời điểm yên tĩnh đầy suy ngẫm, là lịch Thường Niên, đang mời mọc chúng ta cùng nhau đi trên đường gia tăng niềm tin.
Giáo hội luôn mời chúng ta coi Thánh Kinh như là quan điểm chính, vì Sách Thánh như một con đường ngay thẳng dắt chúng ta tới Chúa, để được ngồi dưới chân Ngài nghe Ngài giảng dạy. Vì chúng ta cần Ngài, lối suy nghĩ của chúng ta, tuy là có thể tuyệt vời và tân tiến, vẫn có nhiều giới hạn mà chúng ta chỉ vượt qua được với sự khôn ngoan của Thầy ban cho. Trong Gia đình, có lẽ chúng ta đã trải qua những giây phút tốt đẹp nhất, với những cảm xúc đâm ấm của những cái ôm đầy tình thương, nhưng cũng nhiều khi là những khổ đau làm u ám đời ta. Nhưng Chúa Giê-su có ban cho ta phép lạ để giải quyết những xung đột nếu chúng ta mở lòng mình ra cho Ngài để dùng tình thương lam vũ khí chống lại những trường hợp khó khăn mà mình phải trải qua.
Trong Phúc Âm hôm nay, Mẹ Maria đã chứng kiến một trường hợp khó sử trong một buổi tiệc mà Mẹ đang dự. Mẹ đã bảo Con mình là phải làm một cái gì đó để giúp họ. Gioan 2:1-12. Chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu đáp lời Mẹ mình qua một hành động thật đúng lúc đầy lòng trắc ẩn cho Gia đình nọ đang trong lúc khốn đốn. Bài học này cũng day chúng ta luôn phải làm một điều gì và không thể làm ngơ trước sự điêu đứng của đồng loại.
Gia đình cần Chúa Giêsu là Đấng Cứu Rỗi và sự hiện diện rất thận trọng của Mẹ Maria. Chúng ta phải mời Người vào Gia thất và đời sống của chúng ta vì ngày nay có quá nhiều tranh chấp trong mối liên hệ con người, trong tình cảm, trong giáo dục và nhiều vấn đề khác. Khi ra khỏi nhà, chúng ta nghĩ đến những chuyện khó khăn và gặp những điều khó sử nơi đi làm và những chỗ khác mà đáng lẽ ra phải có niềm tin bảo bọc và dìu dắt, nhưng chúng ta không thể nào để đời sống bị mất thăng bằng. Chúng ta phải ngừng lại và suy nghĩ kỹ, phải mời Mẹ Maria đến xem xét cho kỹ những sự bất đồng hay lo âu của chúng ta, và nhờ Mẹ cầu bầu đến Thiên Chúa, để Mẹ dìu dắt và giúp chúng ta, chỉ bảo chúng ta những bài học và lối cư xử, khuyến khích chúng ta qua lời truyền rao Tin mừng của Tiên Tri Isaiah, rằng sẽ có những lúc tốt đẹp hơn, và không để sự dữ làm mình bị ngao ngán trong đời. Một khi có niềm tin vững chắc không thoái chuyển vào con đường đã chọn, bạn sẽ đến đích.
Trong một trận đánh quan trọng chống lại đội quân hùng mạnh với số lượng đông gấp bội, vị tướng quân cảm nhận được cả sự lo lắng và sợ hãi ẩn chứa trên gương mặt và ánh mắt của những người lính của mình.
Đêm hôm đó họ dừng chân cắm trại tại một ngôi đền trong vùng. Sau bữa ăn,ông đề nghị những thuộc hạ và binh lính của mình cùng cầu nguyện trước đền. Sau đó, ông lấy ra một đồng xu và nói: “Ta đã cầu nguyện được linh báo trước kết quả của trận đánh quan trọng này. Bây giờ ta sẽ tung đồng tiền này lên, nếu là mặt sấp chúng ta sẽ chiến thắng. Còn nếu là mặt ngửa chúng ta sẽ thua”.
Vị tướng quân tung đồng tiền lên cao. Mọi người đều căng thẳng chăm chú chờ đồng tiền rơi xuống. Mặt sấp! Tất cả binh lính vô cùng phấn khởi và vững tin đến mức họ bước vào trận chiến đấu bằng tất cả sự dũng mãnh và niềm tin có được. Và họ đã chiến thắng oanh liệt.
Trong buổi liên hoan mừng thắng trận, các binh lính reo hò và nói với vị tướng: Chúng ta đã làm nên một kỳ tích! Đúng là không ai có thể làm thay đổi số phận được. - Đúng vậy! Không ai có thể! Trừ chúng ta. Viên tướng sau đó lặng lẽ lấy ra đồng xu cho mọi người xem. Cả hai mặt đồng tiền đều là sấp! (trích trong -sách Sống Đẹp)

Estimados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
Un cordial saludo en el Señor Jesús, después de pasar las fiestas de Navidad y Año Nuevo, entramos de repente en un tiempo de calma y
de meditación, el tiempo ordinario, que nos invita a seguir caminando en el crecimiento de nuestra fe.
Y la Iglesia nos propone siempre como punto de vista principal las Sagradas Escrituras, a través de ellas, como un buen camino, nos dirigimos para conocer y encontrar a Jesús, sentarnos a sus piés y escuchar sus enseñanzas. Porque necesitamos de Él, ya que nuestro pensamiento, aunque brillante y avanzado tiene muchas limitaciones y que solamente pueden ser superadas con la sabiduría que el Maestro nos ofrece. En nuestros hogares pasamos quizá los momentos más felices de nuestra vida, allí nacen los mejores sentimientos y los primeros abrazos y ternuras, pero también y muchas veces los sufrimientos que nublan nuestras vidas, pero Jesús tiene para nosotros el gran Milagro de resolver nuestros conflictos cuando abrimos nuestro corazón a Él y dejamos que sea el amor el arma poderosa que libra la batalla contra cualquier situación difícil que confrontamos.
Hoy encontramos en el Evangelio la presencia de María, la amorosa Madre de Jesús, que al darse cuenta de un conflicto en la fiesta que han sido invitados, acude a su Hijo para decirle que se debe hacer algo, que ellos deben ayudar. Juan 2,1-12. Es así como encontramos a Jesús en esa acción compasiva de responder a su Madre con esa ayuda oportuna que viene de Dios en favor de la familia que necesita en ese momento de la acción amorosa, y que nos enseña que siempre nosotros debemos hacer algo y no quedarnos quietos ante la necesidad de nuestros semejantes.
La familia necesita de Jesús nuestro redentor y necesita de la presencia cuidadosa de María, debemos invitarles a nuestros hogares y nuestras vidas, hoy cuando hay muchos conflictos en la conducta del ser humano, en los sentimientos, en la educación y muchos problemas. Salimos de nuestros hogares pensando en dificultades, los encontramos también en los lugares de trabajo, en los ambientes donde la fe debería cobijar y guiar la vida, pero no debemos dejar que nuestra vida pierda su balance. Es el momento de sentarse y pensar bien, invitar a María para que mire de cerca nuestros conflictos y preocupaciones y pueda intervenir con su intercesión de Madre ante su Hijo, nos guie y nos ayude, nos proponga sus enseñanzas y formas de vida, alentarnos con el buen anuncio del Profeta Isaías, de que siempre vendrán tiempos mejores y que el mal no debe ser una constante preocupación en nuestras vidas. Un Dios Visible
Nos resulta difícil transmitir ideas a la gente a menos que le mostremos algo, que le ilustremos lo que queremos decir. Dios, que es invisible y verdaderamente más allá del entendimiento humano, aparentemente tiene la misma dificultad. La gente quiere ver, no solamente quiere escuchar una idea. Por eso Dios nos dio a Jesucristo, Dios hecho visible en el mundo. En las semanas recientes hemos visto cómo al nacer Jesús es mostrado a los pastores y a los Reyes Magos, y luego empezó su “vida pública” en su bautismo con Juan. El Evangelio de hoy nos habla de su “primer signo”, que es proveer vino para los invitados a la boda en Caná. Por supuesto, hasta a Jesús, que es Dios hecho visible, no siempre se le entendía en su tiempo y ni siquiera ahora. Por lo tanto, tenemos que considerar lo que vemos: la pobreza y simplicidad de su nacimiento, su humildad y franqueza ante Juan Bautista, su amabilidad y compasión hacia las personas en sus problemas ordinarios, como la falta de vino en una boda. Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe
En 1502 el Fraile Nicolás de Ovando y doce franciscanos dieron inicio a la evangelización de América en la República Dominicana. Ellos fueron enviados por los reyes españoles con el mandato de convertir a los nativos “sin les hacer fuerza alguna”. Con los misioneros llegaron Alfonso y Antonio Trejo quienes traían con ellos un cuadro de la Virgen María bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia. Ellos la llevaron a Higuey, donde en 1572 se le construyó su primer santuario. Poco a poco esta pequeña imagen se convirtió en la Reina del corazón de los dominicanos. María observa dulcemente a su recién nacido quien yace sobres las pajas. Está coronada y lleva puesto un manto azul rociado de estrellas y un escapulario blanco. Lleva una aureola hecha de doce estrellas. En una esquina de la imagen san José también observa al niño por encima del hombro derecho de María. El 25 de enero del 1979 Juan Pablo II la coronó por ser la primera evangelizadora del continente Americano.
