Twenty-Ninth SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ~ October 22, 2017

Dear Parishioners: In a moment of weakness, I allowed myself to get talked into re-instituting something out here that we did at St. Dominic in Sheboygan for the last couple of years: a “coffee klatch.” What we did back there was meet in the rectory a couple of times a month for an hour and a half for an open discussion. People could bring up any topic they wanted to discuss: a current event, something going on in the parish, Church politics, papal pronouncements, questions about Church history, etc. We generally met in the morning (9:30 – 11:00). The meeting was very informal; people could come late, leave early if they had to be somewhere else. We usually had a half-dozen participants, but sometimes we’d hit double-digits. We never really got into the “coffee” part of the “klatch,” but that didn’t seem to bother anyone. I was talked into this by Edie Morrison, the Faith Formation Director at St. Dominic, who was also a regular participant in the coffee klatch. (In fact, the group had asked before I left St. Dominic last June if I would be willing to host them out here once I’d settled in. I had not given a definitive answer at the time, so Edie re-raised it a couple of weeks ago.) I told her we could do it if folks from the original group were willing to drive out here to continue to meet, BUT that it would only make sense to invite people here to join the group, were any of a mind to do so. Not knowing how many might be so moved, I thought it best to hold our first couple of gatherings in the Chapel instead of the rectory. So, on Wednesday, October 25th, we will open the doors for our first coffee klatch in the chapel at St. Thomas Aquinas. (And unlike at St. Dominic – if I remember – we’ll actually have coffee!) We will meet from 10:00 to 11:30 so as not to disturb people in the final few minutes of the weekly Eucharistic Adoration Hour. The second one will be on Wednesday, November15th.

5TH SUNDAY COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND Will go towards supporting The Camo Quilt Project, they are a nonprofit organization that operates under the umbrella of The American Legion of Franklin, WI and is a 501(C)19 classified. PURPOSE: The Camo Quilt Project’s purpose is to show our support to the troops serving overseas by providing our US troops with a quilt made from camouflage fabric that is reflective of their branch of service. As of Oct of 2017 the project has made and shipped over 26,000 quilts to our troops With fewer requests for military quilts we have expanded our focus to include making patriotic lap quilts for our veterans. We have already distributed over 1,200 lap quilts to our veterans in nursing homes, as-sisted living, home bound and hospice. Each quilt is unique in that everyone is different and the back of each quilt reflects the branch of service the veteran served in. There is a pocket on the front with his or her name on. The quilts are small measuring approximately 32 to 42 inches wide and 42 to 48 inches long. Unlike the Camo Quilts these quilts have a polyester batting to make it light weight and easy to wash. Because most of the veterans in health care facilities are in wheel chairs it is important that the quilts be small. Cost of a Camo quilt is about $25 each. The cost for a lap quilt is more and takes longer to make. We are very proud of our veterans and feel they deserve our best quilts. If you should need any further information about the Camo Quilt Project, please feel free to contact me at 920-627-3460 or [email protected]. Linda Wieck Founder Camo Quilt Project Please use your “Camo Quilt “ envelope that is included with your stewardship envelopes! Thank you.

MILITARY IN UNIFORM BOARD We are starting a bulletin board across from the Chapel with pictures of men and wom-en serving in the Armed Forces (active duty or reserves or National Guard). Just drop off a picture, name, rank, assignment and relation in the office or Chapel. Please help us fill this board, it’s great for our parish family to recognize them and to keep them in our prayers.

With the Celebration of All Souls’ Day on Nov. 2nd, a remembrance book will be placed on the altar for you to record the names of your

departed loved ones. These souls will be prayed for and remembered at all STA Masses .
