UPDATED COVID-19 Pandemic Guidelines
On August 11 the Diocese of Davenport again updated guidelines for
its churches. Please visit our parish website for the latest restrictions and
accommodations. Also find a link to diocesan guidelines. In short,
1. We urge that masks be worn by everyone (over the age of 2)
2. Parishes should return to social distancing measures.
3. Congregational singing is temporarily suspended.
Please pay attention to where you are sitting and if you choose
to be in the section reserved for those wearing masks, please do
so and distance yourself out of charity for others in that section.

Just a few tidbits on happenings in the parishes.
I will be gone 3 days this next week to a Newly Or-
dained Conference in Des Moines. For the 1st 5 years af-
ter ordination, all the priests in Iowa get together to con-
tinue learning and getting to know their brother priests in
Iowa. We affectionately call it “Baby Priest School.”
Because of this conference, the Parish Council meeting-
for St. James has been moved to Thursday @ 6:00PM. Any
St. James parishioners are invited. We are still in need of
Parish Council members for both churches.
Immediately after the Parish Council meeting, the dio-
cese will be having a meeting to discuss the results of their
capital campaign study which many of you participated in
through surveys. It is a Zoom meeting so I thought I would
put it up on the big screen in St James Hall so anyone in-
terested could come and watch. The meeting begins at
7:00pm on Thursday the 16th.
Most are now aware that Fr. Marty Goetz, the Dean of
our deanery and the Pastor of Divine Mercy Parish in Bur-
lington is struggling with breast and bone cancer. On Fri-
day the 17th, all 9 parishes in our deanery will gather at
their respective churches and simultaneously pray a rosary
for Fr. Marty. Please come and add the power of your
prayer in support of this faithful priest.
Next Sunday starting at 5:00PM, everyone in our par-
ishes is invited to a potluck and line-dancing family event at
St. James Hall. We had a great time at the parish family
picnic in Westpoint, then the parish softball tournament in
Houghton, so let’s keep the momentum going. Even if you
have no interest in learning how to line dance, come and
laugh with your pastor as he steps on his own feet. :) See
the details on the next page.
Finally, I want to thank everyone for you patience and
suggestions as I continue to learn about being a pastor. I’m
trying hard but I know I have a lot of room for improve-
ment.
