anniversary of her death. If you would like to

with a donation of flowers please call Sue Dieter at 410-937-4035.
.FROM FR. KUNKEL A preacher took to the pulpit one Sunday morning and
proceeded to deliver a sermon on the virtue of faith. He said, in part,
to have faith requires willingness to take risks. To have faith requires
willingness to accept disappointment. To have faith requires
willingness to reject safety and security as the primary conditions of
life. To have faith requires willingness to love and be loved,
regardless of any painful consequences. To have faith requires
courage. The preacher then concluded the sermon, saying, I’ve given
up expecting you to take that giant “Leap of faith” everybody talks
about. But it is nice to see you take a little hop now and then.
Jesus said to the crowd that had gathered to hear him preach his
sermon on the mount: You must be perfect just as your heavenly
Father is perfect. And, as followers of Jesus, as a people of faith in
Jesus, that is precisely what we actually aspire to; that is our living
goal; that is our purpose in life; that, hopefully is the direction in
which we journey through life. But we must do it in “little hops,” so
to speak. In this, the earth-bound stage of our eternal existence, we
are “perfect” only to the extent that we are actually trying to be
perfect, only to the extent that we keep on hopping; only to the extent
that we can keep the goal itself in sight!
There is a “Peanuts” cartoon in which little Linus is afraid to go
to the library. Charlie Brown tries to relieve him of his fear, saying,
“Everyone is lonely in one place or another.” Linus asks Charlie,
“Where is that place for you?” Charlie answers, “Earth!”
Our Christian faith offers us no illusion that we are a people
chosen for exemption from loneliness. It holds out no promise of a
trouble-free life of easy comfort. It grants us no immunity from evil
and its consequences. Rather, our Christian faith provides us with the
spiritual equilibrium - the spiritual stamina - that we really need to
face up to the burdens and the evil days and the fears that overtake
us, often in the most unexpected ways!
With the eyes of our faith we can see things as they are in the
light of things as they will be. With eyes of faith we see our own
culpability for things as they are, and our own responsibility for
things as they will be. Jesus sums this up with precision in this
weekend’s Gospel lesson by saying: When a man has had a great deal
given him, a great deal will be demanded of him; when a man has
had a great deal given him in trust, even more will be expected of
him. It is our Christian faith in Christ - God’s gift of gifts - that
empowers us to be true to the responsibility with which we have been
entrusted! Think about it!!

RESPECT LIFE Annapolis 101: Do you know how many life, justice, and social
concerns decisions happen on the state and local level? Do you feel
that your views and concerns are adequately reflected in Maryland
laws and policies? Do you know who your state delegates and
representatives are? Do they know who you are? If you answered
“no” to all or some of these questions, then it might be time for
“Annapolis 101”, an informative and practical workshop that will
familiarize you with the legislative process in the state of Maryland,
introduce you to the best practices of advocating for your values – all
within a Christian vision of fulfilling our call to be leaven in our
society.
Come join us 7-9 PM on August 18- Immaculate Conception
Church, 200 Ware Ave., in the parish hall. Go to:
http://www.marylandmarchforlife.org to register or to find other
locations and dates for the talk.
“Father give me the Holy Spirit.” Amen.

The message of stewardship is that God’s gifts,
shared, will always be enough. Thank you for
continuing to share your gifts with the parish,
others and the Lord. Your generosity is deeply
appreciated.
Please consider remembering St. Mary,
Pylesville in your will. Catholics of generations
to come will thank you for your thoughtfulness
and remember you in prayer.
Summer Contributions: Now that summer is officially here, I would like to
take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy and safe
summer. Our parish is dependent on your contributions,
especially during vacation season. We, as you, must still pay
the utilities, salaries, etc.
If you use parish offertory envelopes and you are
away for the weekend, I ask you to please make up your
contribution the following weekend.
You can also consider joining ParishPay. Your
contributions will always be here even if you are away having
fun in the sun. The forms can be picked up in the vestibule of
the church or call the parish office, Ext. 22.
I wish to extend my sincere thanks for your continued
generosity.
Fr. Kunkel
Offertory Envelopes/EFT
The parish offers two (2) plans for giving: Electronic Funds
Transfer and Church Offertory Envelopes. The easiest and
most efficient way is Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
Your donations are automatically taken out of your checking
or savings account or charged to your credit card. No need to
think about writing a check, remembering your envelope or
being away for a well deserved weekend or vacation. You can
have your contributions deducted anytime during the month.
How much easier can it be? The Church Offertory
Envelopes are mailed to you every month. It is required the
envelopes be used to have your contribution recorded. If you
are unable to attend mass we ask you to please bring your
envelope(s) the next weekend you attend mass, mail them or
drop them off at the office. Please call the parish office, Ext.
22 if you would like to enroll in one of the giving methods or
if you would like to switch from envelopes to EFT. As
always, thank you for your continued support of the parish.
**Next Weekend: August 13th
& August 14th
Weekly Offering: - Provides a regular predictable source of funding
so the Church can meet its practical responsibilities; cost of facilities,
administration, worship, salaries/benefits, religious education
subsidy, ministries, and miscellaneous expenses. (We encourage all
envelope users to please use your envelopes. This will assist in
decreasing the posting time.)
Maintenance Fund: St. Mary: Second Collection: Funds to provide
regular maintenance for the parish buildings, grounds and equipment.
This fund is not used for general operations of the parish or capital
projects.
Black & Indian Missions: Archdiocese of Baltimore: The Black &
Indian Mission collection exists to help diocesan communities to
build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African
American, Native American and Alaska Native people of God. Every
year, it is the amazing generosity of Catholic faithful just like you to
enable the Black and Native Mission office to support the following
important priorities: Enlivening Parish Life & Catechesis, Helping
Educators Reach Kids, Empowering Evangelizers and Encouraging
Vocations. This “Special envelope” can be placed in the regular
offertory collection along with your weekly offering envelope.
Poor Box: “St. Edwards”: This weekend the donations to the poor
box will be given to our sister parish “St. Edwards” to assist them any
where their need is most important.
