Each week the parish happily accepts names for the bulle-tin sick list from family members and friends. The list continues to grow and we are unable to know the status of those on the list. Many times the petitioned person them-selves ask that their names be removed informing that they have long since healed and they no longer require the prayers. To address this, our Parish will RENEW the bulletin sick list for the new year beginning with the January 5th Bulletin. This will reduce the large number of names and allow for the list to be reorganized. If you wish a name to be added to the list or continued, simply call the rectory or email the parish at [email protected]

A Happy & Blessed Christmas to all of our Parishioners

The Rectory office will be closed on Tuesday, Christmas Eve and on

Wednesday Christmas Day in observance of Christmas and will

re-open on Thursday morning at 9 am.

If you or someone you are attending mass with is unable to walk up for communion, please alert an usher before mass so he can arrange for a priest or Eucharistic Minister to bring communion to the person.

Our Parish depends solely on your generosity to meet each week’s expenses. Our regular Sunday collections account for more than 60% of our operating budget. Your continued support, especially during these difficult economic times, is both needed and appreciated. Last week you donated $ 15,785.29

Parish Outreach

Our Lady of Lourdes

!!! “COAT DRIVE” !!!

In anticipation of the cold months ahead and recogniz-ing the many needs of those we serve in our parish community, Parish Outreach is again organizing a Fall “Coat Drive”! Like most Outreach endeavors I will need your help and cooperation to make this effort a success.

Outreach will continue to accept NEW or CLEAN, Gently Used, WARM Coats and Jackets for adults and children throughout the month of DECEMBER. So please take a look through your closets and consider donating those unwanted/ unnecessary coats and jackets that are still in very good condition. We will of course provide a tax deductible receipt for the value of your donated winter coats. Please bring your coat donations directly to the Parish Outreach Office. Thank you.

“Ministry of Consolation”

Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a wonderful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes “Ministry of Consolation” team. The most valuable gifts we can give are the gifts that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are espe-cially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one.

Created to provide warmth, caring and personal attention to assist families in preparation for the funeral mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry’s call to love and care for one another.

Thank you so much to our coordinator, Deacon Frank Gariboldi and all our volunteers for embracing this beau-tiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to volunteer. Thank you for your consideration.

“We Care Blankets”

Our “Care Blankets” group of volunteers continues to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:30am, in Room 4, right next door to Parish Outreach. Since our group began in November 2009, a total of 1,015 gor-geous hand-made colorful blankets have been lovingly created. Thank you so much for the care, time and talent that goes into every beautiful creation, each a special gift for a very special child undergoing cancer care. We are happy to accept contributions of yarns, crochet hooks or knitting needles. If you would be interested in joining please give Parish Outreach a call at (516) 541-1260. The more the merrier!

"The child is God's blessing. He transforms husband and wife into father and mother. Both "go out from themselves" and express themselves beyond themselves in a person, the very fruit of their love." Pope John Paul II As we celebrate the birth of God's greatest gift to us, His Son Jesus Christ, let us pray for those women who are contemplating abortion. May the grace of God be with them and guide them to a life-affirming decision.

RESPECT LIFE

Sunday December 22, 2013

A note from J. C. Laws -Music Director

-When you get tired and cranky from rushing around to shop for that one last gift…

-When you get angry at a family member for being late for Christmas dinner…

-When “Uncle so & so” has to much to drink and blurts out something he shouldn’t…

-When you heart is weighed down in sorrow… -When you get bad news and something happens in

the world and it just doesn’t seem fair…

Remember the words of the angel in the Gospel of Luke Chapter 2: The angel said to them,

“Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.

All the liturgies of Christmas attempt to express our wonder at this Christmas feast.

Christ the Lord is born today, the Savior has appeared. Earth echoes songs of angel choirs, archangels’ joyful praise. Today on earth we exult: Glory to God in the highest, alleluia!

Also we pray: God of love, the darkness that covered the earth has given way to the bright dawn of your Word made

flesh. Make us a people of the light. Make us faithful to your word, that we may bring life to the waiting world.

Please come to hear our choir lift us in song on Christmas Eve Family Mass with a small concert of carols and songs at 4:30pm and Mass at 5:00pm,

and at the 10:30am Christmas Day Mass.

A Special thank you to: -Our organists, cantors, & choir, who all work very hard rehearsing and add so much to our liturgies. -All of our wonderful Priests and Deacons who all do such good and Holy work bringing us the Sacraments. -All of our Ministries and Parish staff who work endlessly and go way above and beyond to get the job done.

The parish is blessed to have such wonderful generous people in its midst.

On behalf of the entire music ministry I wish all the generous, wonderful parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes a Blessed Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.

*** Our annual music collection is in a few weeks, but maybe consider

making an extra Christmas donation for our music ministry. Write- “St. Cecilia fund” in the memo of your checks or on an envelope

to help offset the cost of running our music program.***

In His forgiveness & love, J. C. Laws

2013-2014 Missalette Memorial Opportunity ***Please return form to Rectory office***

Each year Our Lady of Lourdes Parish purchases new missalettes which include, the order of Mass texts, readings for Sundays and Holy Days, daily Mass propers, and all the music we sing throughout the year.

This year and for the years to come, we are asking you to consider making a donation to help offset the cost of the missalettes. We are asking for $25 per missalette. For each donation there will be a book plate inscription on the inside the front cover of a missalette.

We hope to offset the cost each year by having parishioners : •Make a donation as a gift •Memorialize a missalette in memory of a deceased friend or relative •Dedicate a missalette in honor of a friend or relative (living)

We thank you for your consideration of this request. Your generosity and commitment to Our Lady of Lourdes is vital and your participation is greatly appreciated. Your gift will certainly enable us as a parish to continue to lift our hearts and voices to God and at the same time, remember your intention.

If you have any questions or need further information please feel free to contact the Rectory or see J. C. Laws, our Music Director & Liturgy Coordinator.

2013-2014 Missalette Memorial Yes I would like to help defray the cost of our yearly missalette.

Remember the Church in Your Will

My Dear Friends in Christ:

Do you ever wonder why universities, hospitals and other non-profit institutions are so successful?

Today, the financial and gift support from alumni and friends has made the difference maker for many non-profits.

A gift of a percentage of your estate in your will or a specific gift amount can be a lasting tribute to you, your family as well as secure the future of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

Many friends are anxious to make major gifts but are concerned about family, expenses, tuition or retirement. A gift through your will can enable you to make a return of the many blessings God has bestowed upon you and also enable you to make the major gift you may have always wanted to make.

A will is an important document that protects you and your family and should be updated regularly. A regu-lar update is also an opportunity to include Our Lady of Lourdes.

Please prayerfully consider remembering Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in your will. A gift can help God’s work long after you’ve passed into His hands.

As always, we will remember you, your loved ones, and your intentions in our prayers every day.

Faithfully yours in the Lord Jesus,

Msgr. James P. Lisante
