“This is enough, O Lord! Take my life.” Talk about a bad day! Haven’t we all been through this at some point in our stewardship journey, whether in the parish ministry work we are
trying to do, at home with our family or in our profession — we get worn out and worn down.
Elijah’s plea — melodramatic to be sure — is a form of the stewardship pillar of prayer, for prayer is simply lifting mind and heart to God. And God responds, sending restorative food and drink. Rejuvenated, Elijah is able to walk for 40 days until he arrives at the destination God had in mind for him all along!
Contrast this with the Gospel reading. The people, hearing Jesus’ message, do not understand. But rather than take their complaint to Him as Elijah did, they begin to complain among themselves about him — that’s murmuring, and it is counterproductive.
Feeling worn down at times is actually part of the stewardship journey. It means we are giving our all to the life God is calling us to live. But it is also a sign to us that we need to find new strength.
How? Ask the Lord! He will meet your physical needs. Even more, He will send you His own Son, the Bread from Heaven, to strengthen you with the Eucharist and the living Word of the Scriptures.
A stewardship way of life takes all the strength we have to give. The beauty of this way of life is that we have a God who delights in giving us every bit of strength we need to live it! Source: www.catholicsteward.com

SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH MECHANICSBURG, PA August 12, 2018 P ARISH TRANSFORMATION:
Friday Evening
Eucharistic Adoration The Eucharist is CENTRAL to our lives as Catholics. We are very happy to continue to offer Friday evening opportunities for quiet time with our Eucharistic Lord. The schedule, beginning August 3, is:
Prayers for Life will be prayed at the end of Evening Prayer, and before Night Prayer, during our period of Adoration on Friday evenings. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have asked us to observe a Novena for Legal Protection of Human Life for nine Fridays, from August 3 to September 28. In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants are encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for the intention of the Novena, which is that the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. For more information on each of the Fridays of this Novena, please go to www.usccb.org/issues-and-action and search under the tab “Take Action Now.” There are always so many people and situations to pray for throughout the world, as well as our own prayers of thanksgiving to offer to our Lord. What a wonderful gift we have in the Eucharist!
Banns of Marriage are announced for TJ Salonick and Melanie Novak. Both are members of this parish, and will be married here at Saint Joseph, on September 1, 2018.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word As part of our ongoing Parish Transformation Process, Children's Liturgy of the Word will be offered beginning September 9th and continue throughout the school year until May 19th during the 9:45 AM Sunday Mass. It is open to all children in the first through fifth grades. The children will be invited by the Celebrant after the Opening Prayer to follow the Prayer Leader (a catechist) to the Lee Horan Room where they will hear the Sunday Readings and have a Homily in an easy to understand and age appropriate format. They will then return to the congregation at the Offertory. Children’s Liturgy of the Word will use the Sunday readings of the liturgical year and follow the same cycle as the Church. No pre-registration is necessary, and all eligible children are both welcome and encouraged to attend. If you are interested in assisting and have a desire to share the Catholic faith with the children of our parish, please contact Mark Rebuck at 717-766-2472 or by email at [email protected]. Adults who wish to participate in this program are required to undergo a background check and have their appropriate Youth Protection clearances.

HIGH SCHOOLERS - THIS IS FOR YOU!!!
How do I know God is real? Why be Catholic? Why tell my sins to a
priest? Why do I have to go to Mass? Where do I go from here? These
are just some of the tough questions that today’s high school students are
faced with regarding their Catholic faith. Beginning this fall, the Saint
Joseph Religious Education Program will be offering Chosen. This
program takes young people on a journey through the entire Catholic faith
in all its richness and vitality. Students will be captivated by the story, from
Creation all the way through salvation history,
and they will come to see how the sacraments,
prayer, and discipleship are the keys to a happy
and fulfilling life. The goal of Chosen is
deepening teenagers understanding of
Catholicism in the hope of making them
lifelong disciples of Christ. Its carefully
designed methodology features highly effective
and engaging material conveyed through videos,
discussion, and classroom experience. Featuring twelve of the top youth
experts in the Church today and filmed in more than 50 locations, Chosen
is unlike any other program available in the Church today. Sessions will
be held on Wednesdays from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Lee Horan
Room beginning September 12th. Chosen is open to ALL
high school students and is free. If you are interested, please
contact Mark Rebuck at 717-766-2472 or by email at

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK We would like to thank:
Malpezzi Funeral Home for sponsoring an advertisement in our parish bulletin.
Please patronize the businesses that underwrite all of the publishing expenses of our weekly bulletin.
The wild what?! That’s right… the Wild Goose! It is a term the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. And if you allow Him, the Wild Goose will lead you on an adventure greater than you can imagine. The Spirit will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace, and presence. The Holy Spirit has been given to us not as a possession to be tamed or controlled, but rather as a Person that will lead us to the Heart of God.
The Wild Goose series will help you experience a deeper relationship with the Person of the Holy Spirit, and as you come to experience God’s presence and power this very same Spirit will transform you and bring you freedom.
Saint Joseph Parish is happy to host several episodes of the Wild Goose series this summer. Each will consist of prayer, a video presentation, and small group discussion. No registration is necessary...feel free to drop in any dates you’re available. If you can’t attend sessions in person, we encourage you to watch them on FORMED. Tuesday, August 21: 6:30 PM Brindle Hall The Spirit Remembers & Where is the Wild Goose leading YOU?
All are welcome!

Home Mission Outreach: The Home Mission Outreach group is busy planning for our trip to Frenchburg, Kentucky September 8-14, 2018. We are in great need of help completing a project we began - in conjunction with several other churches - in April. Our goal is to provide a safe, warm home for a widow before the winter comes. Please prayerfully consider joining with us! To learn more visit our display in the narthex this weekend and attend our information meeting on Thursday, August 16 at 7 PM in Brindle Hall. We will gratefully accept donations of gently used clothing and domestics for the Glenmary Thrift Shop as well as new blankets, hats and gloves, books and toys for the Christmas Giveaway held in December. There is also a great need for personal care items, diapers and cleaning supplies. All items can be left at the parish office until September 1, 2018 or contact Pat Hawkins at 717-697-0660 or Mary Carnahan, 717-761-2781 for more information. Thank you for your generosity and prayers!
CAREGIVERS-SAVE THE DATE. Most of us know of someone who is involved in providing direct care or responsible for the care of a family member, a neighbor, or friend. That someone may be you. Caregivers often describe their service as simply “doing what needs to be done.” However, the hours spent on care can leave little time for relaxation, spiritual renewal or connecting with others. Volunteers in the Cumberland/Perry Deanery parishes are planning the 5th Annual Caregivers’ Day of Prayer and Care to honor these very special men and women on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Trinity High School, Camp Hill. Please share this announcement with caregivers you know. There is no cost for the day, but registration will be required. Watch for registration details. Your parish contact, Madeline Beitzel, can provide more information: [email protected] or 717-307-9266.
On October 13, 2018 a conference, in Philadelphia honoring Humanae Vitae and sponsored by the archdiocese, will be held. This one day conference will feature various speakers. The conference will be held on October 13, 2018 from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM at the Logan Philadelphia Hotel, One Logan Square, Philadelphia, PA 19103. For more information please visit www.phillycatholiclife.org.
Parish Pilgrimage to Oberammergau – There are still a few seats remaining for the parish pilgrimage to see the Passion Play in Oberamergau, Germany in September 2020. For more information, please contact Monica Malpezzi at 717-697-8368 or [email protected].

The Knights of Columbus would like to send them care packages as well. Please contact Warren Stephens, [email protected], for details.
May God continue to watch over and protect our nations’ military members and their families.
The Tom Capper family is the
