TITHING-GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING

April 1, 2018 — Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of

the Lord

Weekend of March 25, 2018: $ 28,152 Previous year weekend of March 26, 2017: $ 25,471

ACTS 10: 34A, 37-43; PS 118: 1-2, 16-17, 22-23; COL 3: 1-4, JN 20: 1-9

One of the recommended Responsorial Psalms on this

glorious Easter Sunday is Psalm 118, including this from

verse 24: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice

and be glad.” In truth Easter is all about rejoicing. It is the

day of Resurrection which provides hope to all of us.

Throughout our diocese thousands of people are at Mass

today who may not normally attend. Recent studies have

shown that as many as 40 percent of those who do not

regularly attend may not have been at Mass since

Christmas.

That is another reason

for us to rejoice and say

“Welcome home.” We

miss you and we love

you. Christ’s love for us

is at the foundation of

our celebration today.

Saint Augustine once

wrote, “God loves each

of us as if there were

only one of us.” We ask

God’s blessings on all

those who have passed

our amazing religion to

you. Clearly you do

remember your devotion and are here to honor it.

Our Catholic Church considers today to be the holiest day

of the year. For us as Catholics this celebrates one of the

greatest days in history — when Jesus, the Son of God,

defeated death and rose from the grave giving us all hope

for eternal life. Saint Pope John Paul II may have put it best

several years ago when he proclaimed, “Do not abandon

yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and

hallelujah is our song.”

Banns of Marriage are announced for Angela Dolson and Michael Adamson who will be married at Saint Joseph Parish on April 14, 2018.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

APRIL 8, 2018

Divine Mercy Sunday is a very special Sunday

when the Divine Floodgates from Heaven are

wide-opened and Jesus offers us the total

forgiveness of all sins and punishment to any

soul, who goes to Confession and receives Him

in Holy Communion, on that day of Our

Lord's Divine Mercy, He grants forgiveness of

all sins and punishment and mercy will be given

to even the most hardened sinners! It is the

Sunday of Divine Mercy, the Feast of Mercy!

Our Parish will hold a celebration in honor of Divine

Mercy on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3:00 PM in the

Church. This time of prayer will begin following the

11:30 AM Mass with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a

time for quiet prayer in front of our Eucharistic Lord.

At 3:00 PM, we will begin a Divine Mercy Holy Hour,

which will include the singing of the Chaplet of Divine

Mercy. Benediction will be at 4:00 PM. After Benediction,

the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be offered

for those who wish. According to Saint Faustina’s Diary,

Confessions prior to Easter will suffice for the Feast.

Confessions will be heard on Saturday, April 7 at 3:30 PM

and Sunday, April 8, at 9:00 AM.

Our current pledged total is $224,568.00 received from the 27.67% of families that have responded. We still have 72.33% of our parish families that received a follow up letter asking for their assistance with the Bishop’s Annual Lenten appeal. All of the funds received help our Bishop to meet many needs in our parish through the Diocese, such as men’s and women’s retreats, vocation development, our seminarians, prison ministry, marriage preparation, youth protection, Catholic Charities, persons with disabilities, and social outreach, to name a few. You can still turn in your pledge by mail, dropping off at the parish office, or by placing in the Sunday collection. The link on our parish website, www.stjosephmech.org, is also available for you to make your pledge. Credit cards are accepted through the website!! Thank you for your continued support!

WELCOME TO SAINT JOSEPH PARISH! EASTER SUNDAY WWW.STJOSEPHMECH.ORG

Happy Easter to all from Saint Joseph School! Thank you very much for all of the kindness, prayers, and support you give to our students and staff. May God bless you richly!

SJS was fortunate to host a " S T E A M M u s e u m " Assembly on Monday, March 12.. Our gymnasium was turned into a state-of-the-art, hands-on children's museum f o c u s e d o n S T E A M e d u c a t i o n ( s c i e n c e , technology, engineering, art,

and math). Students from Preschool - Grade 8 spent 40 minutes exploring the workstations that supplemented our curriculum, exposed the students to high-tech fields of study, and appealed to their individual interests. Students:

*built a parabolic arch (Think ancient Roman structures and the St. Louis Gateway Arch) out of large foam blocks and learned how this structure functions. *saw a demonstration of a state-of-the-art 3-D printer in action (Students watched as the printer created a 3-D model while it was visible on a computer monitor in front of

them). *built gear-driven mechanisms. * observed a humanoid robot in action. *worked a Bike Generator (Students converted their kinetic energy into electricity by pedaling the bike which illuminated low-power LEDs and eventually created enough power to light halogen lamps at the top of the tower). * programmed robots (Students used special markers and a Tablet to create paths and mazes for the advanced line-tracking robots that responded to color). *experimented with plasma, the 4th State of Matter. *created music using computers. * worked "Buzzwire" in which they tested their hand-eye coordination and motor skills on an electrified wire loop.

Thank you very much to the Home & School Association for sponsoring this successful event and to our wonderful parent volunteers who spent the school day staffing the workstations!

Thank you to all of the generous adult and student

volunteers who gave of their time to assist with cleaning

the Church for Easter! Your help is greatly appreciated

and the Church looked wonderful from all of your great

cleaning efforts.

A Legion of Mary Invitation We invite you to attend one of our Legion of Mary

meetings in order to discover Mary’s spiritual

presence in the world today. Through prayer and

service, we give glory to God through the

sanctification of our members, to save souls, and to

spread our Catholic faith. We meet once a week to

pray and plan our works. We perform two hours of

community service each week, working in pairs, and

we visit the sick, the aged, the suffering, the poor, the

lonely, the broken-hearted and the fallen away. In this way, Mary’s

beloved Son, our Lord, is served in our neighbors. If you can dedicate a

couple of hours per week, where you will kindle the fires of divine love,

please contact Nancy Hudock at 717-421-0250 or [email protected]
