Master Catechist Guidelines

The Institute for Pastoral Ministry (IPM) has the responsibility for administering certification programs for catechists in the Diocese of Orange. The certification program was reaffirmed by the California Conference of Catholic Bishop in the recent revised document “Guidelines for Formation and Certificate of Catechists and Master Catechists” (May 2009). Master Catechist Catechetical Project

MASTER CATECHIST CATECHETICAL PROJECT

The Catechetical Project aims to give Master Catechist candidates an opportunity to concentrate on a specific aspect of catechetical ministry for theological reflection, detailed analysis, and self-evaluation. Its aim is threefold: to further the process of integration between academic course work, spirituality and parish ministry; to develop a process through which the candidate can discern the quality and effectiveness of parish catechetical work; and to provide catechists in other parishes with similar interests an opportunity to learn from the experience of others. It is required that the catechist consult with the director of IPM throughout the duration of completing the Master Catechist Project. This is to discuss and identify what will best contribute to the growth of the candidate’s spirituality and ministerial skills. A proposal must be submitted to the IPM Office and must be approved before starting the Master Catechist Catechetical Project. After the IPM Office receives project proposal, our office will contact candidate for meeting to discuss the project.
