3-YEAR MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE134 CREDITS

Our three-year Master of Architecture track provides an educational experience inspired by the poetics of materials and the communica-tion of cultural meaning; speculations on the pleasures and dilem-mas of contemporary city dwelling; and the potential of architecture to promote social transformation through practices directed toward the common good. The Master of Architecture is oriented toward situational investigations, in which the focus of creative activity is on perceiving, interpreting, and representing the meaningfulness of human situations through acts of making architecture. Intellectual rigor, imaginative visualization and manual dexterity are promoted in every student.

The Master of Architecture is a NAAB-accredited professional degree. The three-year program begins with four terms of graduate transi-tion courses followed by a series of design studios taken alongside courses in advanced technology, theory, and the profession. The program culminates in a year-long individual design thesis explora-tion. The three-year Master of Architecture starts in Summer term.

The program offers a variety of opportunities to participate in design-build projects that provide hands-on experience working with materials and construction practices while engaging directly with communities both domestic and abroad. Architectural technol-ogy courses engage local design firms to develop collaborative build-ing performance research, working alongside professionals on their current design projects. Professional practice courses take place at a range of local firms, where experts in the field teach from direct knowledge and experience.
